Did someone turn the lights out?

I dunno if it's just me, or something I have setup in my graphics settings (everything is set to max btw), but Sector Space is almost completely black now...

All jokes about space being dark aside, it was never quite so dark before the revamp that you could barely see your ship, aside from it's windows and the various lit-up sections such as nacelles, deflector, warp trails and so on...

Even on Tribble, the revamped Sector Space did not seem quite so dark...

Anyone else noticed this, or is this something at my end?

Taco wanted it to be a little closer to reality. Keep in mind that interstellar space is as dark as a moonless night on earth. So it should be even darker. I like it. Even though - as mentioned in another thread - a higher quality background wouldn't be a bad idea.

Fair enough... I'm not disputing that deep space is going to be pitch black, nor am I saying I have an issue with the change, it's more that it was quite a departure from old Sector Space and I had not seen anything indicating it was an intended change...

Also that I had not noticed it being so much darker on Tribble either...

But, if it's intended, all good...

I agree that our ships look too dark now. Ships didn't look this dark flying in sector space in the multiple Trek series or movies.

At the very least, Taco or another dev should increase the "range" at which the light from stars and planets begins to light up our ships' exteriors. I have to basically fly into a sun before my ship is clearly visible in sector space.

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.

It is no darker than Tribble has been for weeks. . . Check your gamma. (which has a separate setting for each shard)

I do like the new look of galactic space; much more immersive! I'm still uncertain that I can navigate successfully without astrometrics, since there appears to be a bit more Z-axis space than before (probably just a perception thing). Players will learn to adapt to it, and no one will be able to imagine it any other way... :P

This new, darker setting - as immersive some may find it (please forcibly disable all sound in space maps for these people to further enhance their immersion) - just isn't fun to look at. If those people want that kind of immersion, they could just turn off their screen during space travel...

    Shouldn't that count as a built-in cloak?
