These are obviously the expected Pilot ships and I have to be honest... They look GOOD!! The ships have actual DESIGN unlike the fed and kdf command ships. The Mercury class looks pretty slick, the Romulan one continues to have that great look on other Republic ships, and last but most definitely not least: The KDF ship looks much better from the halfassed command "ships".
As for the mission itself... I enjoyed it ALOT. While turning down the graphics annoys me I liked the idea for it. It reminded me of one or two DS9 episodes and I have to say the asteroid course was fun but I found I needed to stay FAR away from the asteroids or I'd get stuck. Other than that I had fun.
What did you people think of the episode?

Its my favorite Episode so far (well balanced on all accounts, good characters, and if I had never seen ST. Voyager before I'd still really like Tom Paris as Captain.) The pilot ships I'm totally sold on as well (particularly the FED). When I have to stop myself and ask "wait, is that something I missed from one of the shows?" I can't argue with the design. :P

I've noticed the pilot ship in Sol's spacedock viewing window for several months I have been wondering what ship it was...now I know...and I am not too proud to admit I do so want it...as others have posted, it is one sexy little beast.
It was a really nice mission, they could just have me warned before. Flying an escort race with my galaxy was a bit strange^^ But I liked the new pilot ships, seemed just to be a bit big.
I enjoyed the mission overall however the jocularity got to be a little too much for my liking. Supposedly we're at war taking huge losses at the hands of the Iconians and Heralds. Doesn't strike me as the time for the light-hearted banter.
Gallows humor is a long honored tradition for dealing with bleak situations.
Even if it isn't grimdarkdarkitydarkdark humor it can still be gallows humor if it would be inappropriate to the seriousness of the situation.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I ran it with a D'Deridex and spent more time bouncing of big honking rocks, at least we don't have collision damage....Yet! But all in all it was a very decent mission, just a pity we had to get an NPC to blow a hole through asteroid for us though. But hey that's just me nit picking. Also I didn't pay enough attention to the pilot ships, I'll have to have another look later.

What happened to Janeway? I only watched Voyager a little but I was pretty sure they had a female Captain.
Short answer: she's the expensive one (with an active career).

Since Cryptic gave us control over names, character appearances. :P
Anyway joking as a coping/defense mechanism is an established war time trope, if nothing else, so seeing it pop up at mission two of the war isn't all that unexpected or inappropriate (it also goes away fairly quickly in-mission).

It's a tradition for some, not everyone. If the point of the story is to drive the narrative toward a bleak time when we're suffering heavy losses in a time of war, I don't see all the jocularity accomplishing that.
Since when are we playing Monty Python online?
Frankly, the most believably-dark TV show I've ever seen was MASH. Which was also a very funny sitcom.
One of the best scenes in DS9 is Kira, Garak, and Damar breaking up in laughter when they find the neutronium door in the finale.
A war story without humor is a war story I wouldn't believe.
I did like that one of the Ships was called the USS Pratchett, that was a nice nod.
Same here.... I had to smile as I read the ship names
Onto more important matters - anyone screenshotted the new ships yet? I was going too fast to notice the kdf ship (200+ impulse without full impulse through the rings is a blast)
To each their own I guess. I didn't realize the Iconian War arc is supposed to be a comedy.
These guys were practically on a suicide mission. I think spending their potential last moments making jokes is a perfectly valid (and true) coping mechanism.
It's not that weird (at least for people who know about it) for people to laugh, near madly, at the funeral of a loved one or during a war where people around them are getting slaughtered. Laughter or cracking jokes can be a "normal" answer to extreme emotional stress as sobbing uncontrollably.
Famous example: "Always look on the Bright Side of Life".

Humour is the second most common reaction to stress after shortness of temper; if you find that unusual, that makes you the odd one out, not the rest of us.

The "expensive" part is probably the important one, since Kate Mulgrew does voice work for other games, notably the Dragon Age series.

With the costumes we get to have with the Iconian rep, I dunno how it isn't suppose to be comedic. Rodney Dangerfield would wear it.

You ever even watch Voyager? Tom Paris was never serious and always had some flippant comment to make.
That was my second one. My first was Black Adder, esp. the last of the series.
Also, I have a cunning plan.
