Best way to grind iconian rep?

marcel314marcel314 Member Posts: 181 Arc User
Had in the past weeks barely time for sto because of school and the next weeks don't seem to be better.
Which of the three new iconian queues is the easist to grind? I don't have time for 3-4 failed tries on adv missions. Which one is the "bhe" of season 10 since there is no battlezone?

Easiest to grind, or easiest to play? there is a difference.

Maybe you log into tribble, and find out, by whats being said. Maybe, you find out it has to do with a sword... MAYBE JUST MAYBE you have fun playing the game and dont worry about yer rep, it will be there when your done with school lad.

Apparently, you'll be able to get the marks from Bug Hunt as well. You should be able to do the normal one for the daily marks. That should be pretty easy.

    Thats my plan so far:

    1) Keep Daily Reward in mind.
    2) Keep sponsorship tokens in mind
    3) Keep end reward (usually 750 marks) in mind.

    - Play a single queue with toon A one time (and only one time) a day until 1225 marks are acquired. If one gets 55 daily marks and lets say 25 for a normal queue (all 4 ones will do) you get 80 marks and need 14 Days of one Iconian PvE. 40 days will be needed to get to tier 5. The main reward can be used for sponsorship tokens.
    - Use the 40 days to play with alts B-J but again only one Iconian PvE per toon/day at most. With sponsorship tokens we talk about 7 Iconian PvE x number of toons.

With my 9 toons it will be 70 Iconian PvE in sum to max out reputs. Of course the number can gat higher if I decide to go for gear out of the new reput but it should also be noted that we look at summer event as well as mirror most likely before the next season or the next reput will hit us.

The easiest way for me is waiting for the next event that offers Marks of my choosing.

I doubt it will be the summer event, as that is too soon; I can hope, though :)

And there is also a Battlezone ...
Iconian Marks have been added as a reward option for two open missions in the Kobali Adventure Zone:

"At the Gates" which is a requirement of "Breaking the Wall".
"The Last Stand" which is a requirement of "With Our Last Breath".

    ... not a new one, though :P

Play the missions you think are fun. Don't worry about failed advanced missions, if you need the elite marks, you'll be able to convert normal marks into elite marks in a few hours.

The best way to grind is to keep it enjoyable...

lol looks like they're still trying to squeeze more value and utility from the not-so-popular Kobali zone.

Yeah, stick with Bug Hunt Advanced for the grind on one toon, then sponsor the alts.

Why grind something that has no end date? I mean, I can see grinding events, like the Omega particle thing. Get them now cause they are gonna be gone in a month. Did that myself. But reputation? You'll get there, in a month or six, does it really matter? I can't use all the Rep Traits/Gear I have now. Another queue is just more stuff gathering dust in my inventory. And more dilithium ore on that pile that's filling my cargo bays and leaking into the halls.

Or have I been missing something, is there an extra bonus for finishing the Reputation stuff in certain time after the new ones launch?

    Kobali?

Yeah, I'll likely wait for an event that awards them.

    Well :

    1. Why do you think "grinding" means "as fast as possible" ... it's a pretty "neutral" term ... just means "doing repetetive Tasks" ...
    2. But one reason might be, that 6 months from now ... the 3 new Queues might be "dead" ... just try to queue the Undine PVE's i.E.

Im going to Kobali Prime and doing the missions listed there with the Iconian Mark Option.

Then Ill do the actual STFs on Normal. Ive given up on Advanced so Ill be slow grinding up for Elite Iconian Marks.

This is how I do it. I might get marks on the alts here and there but I don't star repping in earnest until the main hits 5. Tier 1 unlock is easy enough but I have found it best to concentrate fire on a single character beyond that.

Review after 24h of Iconian Rep :

    PVE Queues (normal) :

    - "Brotherhood of the Sword" - fun for the first time ... but it's basically just running circles in First City & smahsing F before the Heralds (might) kill you ... Rewards = ~10 Iconian Marks ~10min
    - "The Herald Sphere" - shoot 5 enemies - go through Portal - shoot 5 enemies - go through Portal - shoot 5 enemies - go through Portal - shoot 5 enemies - go through Portal - shoot 5 enemies - go through Portal ... meh ... Rewards : ~5-15 Marks ~15min
    - "Gateway to Grethor" - this one is kind of fun and requires some "Strategy" because you have to protect "Troop Transports" ... Rewards = dunno, Game crashed before I could find out ... ~15min

    Kobali Prime :
    - "Last Stand" & "Breaking the Walls" - Rewards = ~20-30 Marks & 2 Elite Marks every day ~10min for both ... ...

Conclusion : My personal "Iconian War" is going to take place on Kobali Prime ... without any Iconians ...

Kobali battlezone is a nice, easy, way to get them. In just a few minutes I have enough to cover 4 or 5 days of 20h projects.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

Its sad, but this one is similar to the Undine Rep. I'm thinking of passing up this one. Unless there is a story progression similar to the Dyson or Romulan. I don't do boring Reps that only offer gear.

The big thing affecting grinding Iconian Rep is that the Iconian War queued instances at Advanced are either buggy or the general population hasn't gotten the feel of them.

    - Brotherhood of the Sword on Normal can sometimes be annoying but in Advanced, you need a coordinated team or it's beyond frustrating. Normal is too poor in payouts and no Iconian Data Cores.

    - Gates to Gre'thor on Advanced I have found to be bugged. Normal works okay but the payout is pitiful and you of course get no Iconian Data Cores.

    - Herald Sphere even at Advanced I felt was easy. This WOULD be my go to method of getting Iconian Marks and Data Cores but this mission is bugged also.

    So, what does that leave?

For Iconian Data Cores, Kobali BZ, specifically the last portions in the zone, you can collect up to 2 of these things daily. The Marks payout however is awful: Around 6 marks.

For Iconian Marks? Bug Hunt. BHE or BHA since you can select either Delta or Iconian Marks. But you cannot get the Data Cores from BH. Until Cryptic fixes the 2 broken Iconian War instances, I wouldn't bother with the new queued stuff at all. Except to see how they're like.

There's also the rep project to turn in 100 Iconian Marks for 1 Data Core. I haven't done them because of the marks cost but if you are heavily grinding these marks then that's another route to gain the Data Cores on top of doing the end of Kobali BZ.

This alone just says to "keep away" from it. :( Looks like I won't miss much and won't bother wasting time on this one. "IF" I can get caught up. I can play on my alts some.

Yeah. This is one of the failures in Themepark games. New content is released and consumed by the playerbase. After a while, the general playerbase is done with that content and move on to the next new thing to consume that as well.

I call it "Locust Game Design."

When people move on to the new thing, the old stuff just DIES. Barely anyone goes there and that's bad since the stuff is designed with a team of players in mind. So the newbies have a slower go at improving.

Remember how Romulan Mining Colony-whatever instance (can't even remember with the name anymore, that's how long ago I did it) where you get 15-20 to fight the Salt Monsters? That used to be very busy. Remember how many people used to be in New Romulus Adventure Zone? That used to be very busy. But with most people done with Romulan Rep, this content is never used anymore (Mining Colony) or barely anyone is there (New Romulus).

The same thing can be said with Undine Rep stuff. The Undine BZ is still there and is decently used. But the queued stuff almost never goes off anymore. When the Rep came out, the queued instances for this Rep was going off all the time. No longer.

The same will happen with Iconian Rep given time. You either jump on the instances (when they're fixed) with everyone doing it, or you're going to slog it through a slower, less rewarding means.

But for collecting Marks, Bug Hunt. Lots of people still do Bug Hunt and even the PUGs on Elite know what they're doing these days. As of right now, BHA or BHE is by far the best route of collecting Iconian Rep Marks.

Queues are dead that fast because the time/difficulty/reward ratio is completely off. On one side, you have something easy awarding a lot, on the other side, something that require a lot of teamwork (IE pug fail condition), you can fail, with not much rewards.

Example, one of many : Voth queued mission vs Dyson BZ.

No need to be genius to see what the players will play.

Anyway, thanks for the tips, I was looking for an easy way for those marks. I'm going to try the Kobali BZ, until it is nerfed, but then, summer event should be there.

Also, lol @ people trying to explain someone else how to have fun. Can't you let people have fun the way they want to ?
