Build update; power insulators

I used to spec into power insulators on all my characters, at least up to 6 skill points because it would help soften the blow when borg used tachyon beams on me. Now I find that tachyon beam is crazy good to use but conversely, power insulators don't seem to do anything. So does this mean I should no longer spec into it?

edit: Found the thread, so I'll just link it instead of posting what I did: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1433721 Almost seems like that discussion should be taking place here in builds instead of in bugs.

Well if power insulators are bugged it means all my characters suddenly got 9k skill points to spend on something else :V

But that's the thing...it's not likely bugged as folks explained in that thread.

One could overwhelm Insulators in PvP...having multiple Tach Beams hit is simply overwhelming Insulators.

I am tempted to do an STF with 5 insulator consoles on my sci, just to see if the tachyon beams can be resisted but I think I'll keep the insulator skill points just because of the various sources of drain that are about.

Eh. I don't think they can. With two MK II VR Insulators and running EPTs 1 I was drained pretty fast. Oh and 99 skill from points. In a BoP though.

And then I had them back again very quickly. I tried this numerous times.

It isn't like in PVE it's insanely hard to do something else to keep yourself safe for five seconds.

Not saying you, or anyone complained. Just pointing that out.

PVP, as always, you're on your own. But in Placate Online, not sure how hard this one is to counter.

I admit where PvE tachyon beam is concerned I've learned to fly as if I didn't have shields, it makes life a LOT easier.

PvP tachyon beam is a lot easier to evade, it's also a lot weaker, even under ideal circumstances than the PvE version. I did some testing of this with a friend when he got his command ship, he threw virtually every source of tachyon beam and buffing he could get at my cruiser, I shrugged it off, as a worst case scenario you need only throw power to engines, hit evasives and point your ship in the right direction/reverse.

Then again, as noted, with placate online, it's more difficult to maintain target lock long enough to kill anyone than it is to evade a tachyon beam.
