In a recent Podcast Geko mentioned that Season 11 is already on the drawing board, but we have no indications of what it might be at this point. It will probably not come out until the end of the year - and we do not even have all the info about Season 10 coming out next week, yet.
Can't talk about it yet, but just yesterday I was going through some of the story docs for post S10 stuff, and I like it a lot.
yeah I'm not sure what we do if we beat "omnipotent" enemies.... They have a great point to wrap up the story, I hope they do it well.
As for the future... maybe STO 2.0... perhaps even from another developer? Who knows... what the future will bring but the only certainty we have is change.
I definitely would want STO to go out on a high note rather than slowly fizzle into nothingness... And as the saying goes... all good things must come to an end.
Personally I'm betting some type of STO 2.0 is on the horizon. Gaming has changed so much since STO was released, and the dev team has done an admirable job of keeping up but at some point, you have to go back to the drawing board and build something new.
In the grim future of Star Trek Online there is only war
What's the difference to now?
The only thing we are constantly doing is to shoot at things and blow up ships with hundreds or thousands of lives on board.
"...'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' ... The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. I fear that today--"
- (TNG) Picard, quoting Judge Aaron Satie
The ad copy already says if we don't win there won't be anything left to save: "If they dont succeed, there might be no galaxy left to fight for." Imagine: the game throws the Iconians at us, we don't measure up, and the game just ends.

Won't happen here, but daggone--what a concept.
Hideo Kojima famously wanted his games to delete saves on a game over, uninstall themselves, and even break the discs in the tray, depending on who you ask. Get more DS9 content in the STO before you do that though, thanks.

They probably weaponized Zen and it will be the only thing that will damage the Iconians.
Get your wallets ready, people.

Well... omnipotent might be a slight stretch. More advanced technology than the Federation, certainly.
Thing is, the game is really about "saving the galaxy" when you scrape away all of the surface details. As long as threats exist, there will be something to do.
What's bigger and badder than the Iconians? Do they need to be bigger and badder, or just different?
Return of the Founders?
Return of the Sphere-Builders?
Return of V'Ger?
Return of the Nexus?
Return of the Hurq?
Return of the Alien Probes (ST IV)?
Return of Lore and the Android Apocalypse (I know, I'm reaching)?

As I said in another thread, when Picard first encountered the Borg they were omnipotent. The Borg could only be defeated via trickery: "Sleep, Data." A few years later and Janeway was blowing them to pieces in their own back yard.
It is like anything in Trek, like anything in SciFi, like anything in the comics. At first the foe seems insurmountable. And then later you learn now to defeat it. At the end of the day, Kirk gets a metal, Luke Skywalker bonfires his pops, and the Avengers eat falafels.
Beyond all of that, STO does not need to be about one foe, one story after this. The Iconian War is the end of a movie trilogy, but that does not mean there are not hundreds of other stories out there to tell.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Weren't they going to make an FE about the children of Khan, only for it to get canned?
They were going to do a lot of things that got canned, but eventually came later. I see no reason why Children of Khan can't be regarded in a similar light.

And they (the TNG/DS9 era writing staff) did the exact same thing with the Founders/Dominion and the Jem Hadr. The the DS9 second season finale episode entitled: "The Jem'Hadar" - Jem Hadr ships pretty easily/quickly dispatch the U.S.S. Odyssey (a Galaxy Class starship); with unseen before weapons that ignore its shields; while the Odyssey's phasers and photon torpedoes don't have much effect on the jem Hadr ships.
And yet, by the end of Season 5 (When the Dominion comes back to seize DS9 and the 'Dominion War' begins), the Federation has no issues holding it's own or handily destroying Jem Hadr attack ships.
So, yeah - this particular meme is well established in Star Trek storytelling.

You say that like it's a bad thing.
Are there enough Trek characters to fill out a MOBA? I want to make some sweet space hats.

Sense of humor.. look into getting one.
That's really good to hear, thanks for letting us know.
Ok, that was one of the funniest things I have ever read on this forum.

Another white knight in here is seems.
CRUISERS NEED A 206% HULL BUFF
Trendy is ranked higher than a White Knight. Knight Commander of the Order of the Leek sounds more appropriate.
I'm not a white knight. I'm the god damn Batman.
