Playing through the Romulan campaign with my delta recruit i noticed something very interesting, several missions in the campaign were single player versions of STF's worked into the story line. (i.e. Defend Rhiihho Station, Atmosphere Assault) I think this is a fantastic idea to do with ALL STF's to have them worked through out the different campaigns as a training course to the real thing so when they actually do the mission its not a complete surprise of what do i do.
I am sure someone must of suggested this before hand in some fashion but this was something i realized would be a nice addition i think. Also I'm sure some people will ski the mission but for the majority of the players it would be nice to have there.
This is an awesome Idea and the same thought crossed my mind during replay. What I think to be cool would be a mission integration of the classic Borg STF into a story mode. During that the mission could even work as some kind of easy tutorial how the real thing later on is to be approached. Of course some tasks would have to be simplified but the meaning could still easily be delivered.

The Borg episode arc is only 4 missions. They have a bit of room there, after being introduced to battle group omega you can run some training courses to see if you are ready to fight the Borg.
We even have the Kobali Battlezone worked into the story so it has been done i would love to see more of it.
I think using single player missions as training for STFs would be a fantastic idea. Also it seems like a win - win, for the players and the devs. Players get training and would hopefully enjoy higher success rates in STFs as a result of the training. Devs would be able to use assets at least twice, effectively doubling content at only the cost of developing one map and altering it.
It seems they've adopted this philosophy recently, but they should add old STFs to the episode list.

And almost all the stf's can be done solo, with minimal changes to the map and mostly to objectives. It would allow new players to experience more of the game rather than going blind into that terrifyingly long list of maps that can be played when hitting 50 and should work the same as bug hint where you need to compete the story mission to unlock the stf map.
I've wanted this for a long, long time. I'd love to see story mode, soloable missions based on the STF's get added to the Borg Advance arc.
That would also likely have a positive effect on new characters levelling up to 60 and beyond, if they added mission content before Sphere of Influence.
