hate shuttle combat especially when all the weapons seems to auto track anyway...
no lock box or z-store consoles...
i had the misfortune of doing it with the free lowbie shuttle (no BO ability)
btw does it seem like the walkers are more vulnerable from the rare? I went boom a few times right in the back of the walkers, upper torso. They were at 40% and then they blew up as well?
You can easily swap targets on what you want to fire at. You dont need special consoles for it. A better shuttle is purchaseable for 39k EC.
It is one of the more special episodes, and frankly, if you think a bit before starting it, its an easy one at that. Since its special, you might not come up with a solution before actually doing it, but after the first flight it should be a piece of cake.

I died like 7 times doing it, but ya know what? Its different from 90% of the rest of STO and I love it for that. I get to actually look and act like a ranking officer and command squadrons, I love it for that. You get to see a planet being attacked in a Trek setting by actual air forces and massive "tanks" instead of a few squads of away teams, I love it for that. So shuttle combat it a little clunky and you get to die/respawn a few times... its still a good mission
I was so close to rage-quitting this episode when the battleship showed up at the beginning.. (well like halfway through for me)... I was "Oh man, #$% Cryptic!".... Then I realized that I wasn't supposed to be doing the beginning of the mission in a shuttle. Derp! After that I thought it was fun. Just fly around on the edge and order the squadrons to attack whatever shows up as a target for you. The only time I died on the planet was when I got all rambo and went after a walker, not realizing it had fighter cover.
Yeah, its different from 99% of STO...I get to fly a "ship" so small it disappears under the weapons effects so I can't even see which way its facing, made of cardboard and duct tape, shielded with nothing better than happy thoughs, with no heals, no weapon abilities, against endlessly respawning enemy fighters...oh, what fun!
And it doesn't even try to make an excuse for why I couldn't just fly my Faeht down there and curbstomp them Elachi flat.
The idea is that the squadrons are supposed to provide covering fire/aggro/etc, but even when they do so well, the problem is that they die too easily - leaving only you as a target. As for the walkers, they, much like battleships, respond with an AOE explosion that inevitably damages you if you're too close
Still, it's unique in that regard, being a shuttle mission - the only one that's more annoying imo is the 'defend a station' one, where your ship is that of Commander rank at the time, against ranks of Elachi ships (usually escort level and above). Not so bad when replayed at max rank, but on first play-through, yeah
Anyway, I believe the reason for why 'no big ship' was something about an evacuation - imagine missed starship shots instead of missed shuttle shots vs. colony, or something similar
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

But the mission text does not specify any such reason. Tovan Khen tells you to go down in a shuttle and you have to do it just becase.

It may not have specified, but I believe that was the implication - after all, an entire city is under attack while their best pilots and an alien captain are trying to fight them off. Why not get everyone away as quickly as possible?
