I think the mission flow around lvl 50 is a bit messy and its possible to play the story in the wrong order. New Romulus is an important part of the overall story and yet there is no direct indication to go there. I think this is a mistake because the story then gets confusing and its important to direct players to the content and not assume they will find it.
If a player avoids doing the rep system which I'm sure many do either through not knowing it's there or not wanting to do it, then there is no way they could know they even should be going to New Romulus.
Also, when you hit 50 you are immediately offered Sphere of Influence in a pop up window which is confusing as the player will almost certainly have more story to play before that. Once you do play Sphere of Influence it takes you to a point in time set after the missions and cutscenes from the romulan reputation arc which players probably have not done yet and as this is time gated players must spend weeks leveling up their rep to then see content set before Sphere of Influence.
My suggestion would be to unhook the missions and cut scenes from the romulan reputation and set them into their own story arc introducing New Romulus. This would be set directly after the Breen series. It would make much more sense in telling the story and it would take the missions out from being gated behind the rep system which i personally never liked and make it more in line with the other reps.
As the Tholians play a big part in the romulan story it would also be a good idea to direct them towards Nukara prime at the end. Again unless a player happens to go into Eta Eridani at level 50 there is no direction that it is a place people should visit.
For completion sake it might also be a good idea to introduce them to defera borg invasion as a bridge between the borg and Breen arcs and again improve the cohesion of the story.
EDIT - Also being offered escalation, the first episode of the Delta quadrant story while still doing the dyson sphere eps. Again a new player would be very confused.
I've been thinking about this as I am leveling up my Delta Recruit. Doing the Rom rep and the missions therein is important to having the story make sense. Getting to Spheres of Influence without having done those missions, particularly the final mission, would be confusing. Plus I gotta think the S10 story has to circle back to the Dewan and Iconian stuff we've been finding on New Romulus.
So ideally those mission really need to be unbundled and placed into the storyline sometime after the Breen arc but before Spheres of Influence. Sphere of Influence really needs to be after the Borg Advance mission because that is when we first meet Cooper. While I've always liked those missions it is telling that they never tied story line missions into any of the future rep system tiers.Given how long it takes to complete a rep without a sponsorship token that could drastically slow down a players progress if they want to complete the story properly.
What I am thinking is that the Rom Rep can be started first @ 50 because we already know NR exists from the story -- even then there is a Rom Republic Ambassador on O'onos, ESD and I believe DS9 so if you make it a point to talk to every NPC you'd know that. Nukara can be picked up at that point too for the most basic reason that it doesn't really tie in anywhere else and it is a cheap source of EV suits that you need for the final Rom Rep mission. Omega rep can be done at any point after the 2800 FE series though arguably makes the most sense after Report to Gamma Orionis. Dyson after Sphere of Influence is completed. Undine and Delta after Surface Tension. Finally now the Iconian post Uneasy Allies.
I kinda wish it didn't take so long to level a reputation without a sponsorship token. Or that sponsorship tokens weren't bound to account. Because I agree that it makes sense to go through the New Romulus rep before doing Sphere of Influence and beyond, but as it stands you can bypass the rep system and those cutscenes when you hit the appropriate level.
For most vet players it wouldn't matter, because they've likely hit T5 in all the rep systems ages ago. But for a new player? Which is what this event is supposed to be attracting? It'll take over a month to level a reputation up to T5 and by then the event will be over. And they wouldn't even know to go to New Romulus.
