Hello folks.
I was planning on filing bug reports for the following issues, but I thought first I should confirm them with the community. Here goes then...
1. I am using an Inhibiting secondary deflector on a Vesta (no link for stats, it basically deals 4k+ Radiation dmg after 4 seconds when using certain science abilities, several of which I use). I also have the Particle Manipulator trait active. However, I get
no crits for the Radiation damage caused by the secondary deflector. I've parsed several combats (approx. 500 applications of the secondary deflector damage), and my Particle Generators skill is well over 200 (the trait tooltip in system space gives me approx. 55%+ critical).
Is this intended? The damage from the secondary deflectors is (finally, since the penultimate patch or smth) affected by the PartGens skills, and it represents damage added strictly to non-weapon, science abilities. If that damage doesn't qualify as exotic enough to benefit fromthe Particle Manipulator trait, what does?
2. I also use two Shield Refrequencer consoles (
these). Their proc states it benefits "exotic particle attacks" besides Feedback Pulse (FBP for short) and Eject Warp Plasma (EWP). However, it only procs from Gravity Well (GW) and Tractor Beam (TB), but
not Tractor Beam Repulsors (TBR)! Also, this damage
never crits either, despite the fact that it is clearly exotic damage (it even gets boosted by the PartGens skill).
Again, is this intended? TBs and TBRs are basically the same thing, only with the tractor polarity reversed. It does not seem logical, at least to me, that the console proc works with one ability but not the other.
Just these for now. When I first came up with the exotic dmg build I/ using, I had envisioned it to contribute more to my dps, but in the end my 4 biomolecular phaser arrays deal more dmg than my science abilities...
Should I file bug reports, or are they working as intended? (a dev comment on the above would be most welcome)

For radiation damage, I think some dev once mentioned that radiation itself doenst count toward exotic, but that just comes from the back of my head. It might also be that they intended the secondary deflectors to not benefit from traits.
If you want more dps and more dps from your sciskills, jettison the dyson consoles and get embassy partgen consoles, enhancing TBR, GW and you get the plasma explosion as bonus.
1.) Radiation Damage from the deflector is not exotic damage and is not effected by the part manipulator trait.
2) Best advise is ditch the dyson as mentioned earlier and get you some fleet embassy "EXPLOSIONS" sci consoles..Waaay more fun.

I know the embassy consoles are better, and thx for the advice, but the point of this thread is not whether my setup is optimal or how to improve it, it's to determine if what I'm observing is expected behavior or I should file a bug report. I guess nobody bothered much with the consoles to notice the behavior. However, if the secondary deflector's Radiation damage is not exotic (which of course makes no sense), I fail to see why I should or should not expect anything regarding the consoles.
Cryptic is inconsistent, and thus we have no reference against which to compare our observations and make logical conclusions. I will therefore consider this a null experiment.
Thread finished... Thx everyone for your replies.
