I've been keeping my eye on this ship and I would really like ti ourchase it. But, is it worth it? With the new Teir 6 ships is the Avenger still worth it? Thanks in advance.

Its a good ship for an AntiProton build 4xforward APs plus a torp or 5x forward APs and an ancient and standard AP omnis plus Kinetic cutting beam can really dish out damage.

Any T5 ship is still worth it. However, it doesn't come with some bells and whistles. In addition it will cost 3200 Zen to get to T5-U.

In comparison, you could get a ship like the Presidio (command tactical ship). For 3000 Zen you get a fleet level T6 cruiser with a superb boff layout, a hangar slot, inspiration team buffs/debuffs and probably the most over powered mastery trait All Hands on Deck.

If you want it for aesthetics or RP purposes, then nothing can beat it.

It's an excellent ship, but at normal prices I have to say it's not worth it anymore. At 2500 Zen plus another 700 for a T5-U Upgrade, it costs more then T6 ships. This is the big problem with the current ship pricing structure, is that you end up paying more for less when going T5.

On almost every T5 ship, the answer is an obvious no, but I have to admit that the Avenger is a slight exception. The reason is because while only T5, the Avenger fills a role that no T6 ship really does. It's an actual Battlecruiser which doesn't exist at T6, it's a near perfect mix of damage dealing power and survivability. Your closest T6 to this role is the Presidio which while great, still isn't the exact same thing.

Overall, I would say that if it's a ship that appeals to you in a way that no T6 ships do, and you really want it.. then by all means get it. If you're just torn on a few different ships, you might want to look into T6 ships or wait for a ship sale on the Avenger.
    Insert witty signature line here.

I've always found the Avenger to be ugly and antithetical to Starfleet. Something like the Regent-class is more its style. Powerful and has teeth but can also tank.

But if you dig the Avenger then go for it.

I will never say the good TAC Cruisers from before DR are bad ships, even with the way the game is now.

But I will say that those same Pre-DR ships are dead-end development.

It's one thing if you had them before DR and are still rocking the game with it. But if you are looking to get all the bells and whistles the game has to offer for your money; as much BOFF skill slots you can get, the most console slots (Fleet T5U = Fleet T6 in console slots BTW), the traits, the gimmick specializations, etc, then T5U is truly dead end for your money.

For the Avenger, for example, if you got it, flaunt it still. Still a good TAC Cruiser. But I would never recommend to go buy it in the Post-DR, Tier 6 world of STO anymore.

8 AP forward firing beam with AP beta, TT and FAW..........watch things melt.......every sto player should experience that at least once in their life time.

It's one of the few ships that brought fun to the grind.
