On 2 Febuary 2010 Star Trek Online was launched as a solely subscription-based MMO. On 17 January 2012 it switched to the free-to-play model, although it still allowed for monthly subcriptions.
About 3 months before its third anniversary Cryptic announced the end of the veteran rewards: subscripters would no longer receive special items for every hundred days after the 1000th.
How many of you became 'silver' players after that 1000th day?
How many would go back to paying subscriptions if the veteran rewards were returned to the game?
How much MONEY would Cryptic make from the return of subscribers (this question is for the developers/Cryptic staff on the forums)
Less than they make from micro-transactions. And you aren't going to get an official answer anywhere, least of all here.
It has been proven that for most games (WoW seems to be the only exception) that free-to-play or hybrid sub with transactions are more profitable. A lot of accountant types have gone over the complete numbers for many different games and proven this to be the case.

3 Vet Rewards a year - 1 every 100 days - are not worth $180.00 in Subscription: $15.00 per month for 12 months. You can buy a lot of C-Store stuff for $180.00 a year. It is much better to just go that route - especially when you include the Dilithium Exchange.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
