Devs: DELTA RECruits and REP Grinding

Okay while I am kind of excited for this new thing the kickoff on Thursday, the thing that makes me cringe is the idea of doing the rep grinds, we all know what gonna have to do it if we want this to be a fully fleshed out character and for those of us who have more than one alt, I'm pretty sure we've done this till we want to scratch our eyes out.

ok so Here's the idea we all know that once you reach maximum reputation in the grind, that we then can make the token which basically doubles what the next character makes when grinding rep.... Okay so you want to really make this special? In addition to doubling the reputation experience when we do use the token, how about just for this event and this event only we quadruple the amount gained when using the token, but only for this event and only for Delta, what say you???

Seriously? even with the rep token, it only takes about 3 total weeks to max out one rep. Less if you are filling out 3 hourly projects (1200 rep xp total).

It's not like we can't get a decent amount of marks to jumpstart.

If I like my Delta recruit, I don't mind the grind.

If I don't, I have a new flavor of resource farmer for my main characters.

Did you read today's dev blog about the Delta Recruitment event rewards?

    http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/9116343

For completing various goals during the event you unlock various rewards. For example:

Goal: Get your Delta Recruit to level 50 during the event.

    Reward for Delta Recruit character(s): Reputation Jump-Start Pack: - 250 of Each Reputation Mark - 2x Delta Vanguard Tech Upgrades - 500,000 Energy Credits - 525,000 Expertise - 10,000 Reputation-Only Dilithium

Account reward once you reach that goal: 500 of any reputation marks (most likely for only a single rep of your choice) claimable once per character on your account.

So as you can see, characters created during the Delta Recruitment event will wind up with a big fat reputation starter pack. For characters created after the event you can claim all of the account-wide rewards you unlocked during the event once per character.

Dude, with a sponsorship token one needs 600 reput marks of each category to completely fill a reputation system. You even get a mountain of dil for doing so as well 750 marks each for some gear in the end.

Your delta recruit will be gifted with 250 marks each as head start so all reputs will be almost half way done to begin with. If you make use of daily reward bonuses like a smart player you have to play 4 PvE for each reput to max it out finally.

This game maybe grindy and alt unfriendly but in some cases peeps should really rethink their attitude.

the thing that makes me cringe is the idea of doing the rep grinds,

Just kick out a sponsorship token for each rep from one of your characters that has already completed the reps. Admittedly, newer players may not have completed any or all of the reputations yet, but Cryptic stated that reputation marks would be a part of the rewards anyway. In my case, I accidentally made too many sponsorship tokens for at least one rep, so now I get to use them. :D

    Geez....

Cryptic is practically giving players a lot of rewards on a silver platter for completing Delta Recruit milestones, yet people still complain.

I guess they have nothing better to do or complaining is what makes them happy.

Don't see the rep grind as being a particular issue for delta recruits (even if you don't have/can't use the tokens and so it takes you 40 days with the 2k daily project only). Run a mission from each rep a day for a week and you've got all the marks you need to level up and then its just equipment from there on in (again takes a little time, but means things can play with a little bit more challenge while you don't have the best gear).

Now spec point grinding, that's an entirely different story for non-delta recruits, let along delta recruits..........

You're getting 250 marks and (from the account marks) 5 - 2x rep tokens.

That covers your first 40,000 rep XP. Earn the rest.

From a new players stand point.

Hefty Rep Marks, is one thing. But if the new player wants to get gears, then it is required to get BNP's etc. And in this games current state of affairs IE; Optional Failures, this won't happen until a complete change over in PvE's STFs are done.

Bridging the Gap New vs Veteran Players. Right now I am seeing this as a farce! Sure the new player would be rewarded, but I seriously question "The Rewards" in comparison to the Veteran who had grinded or bought the resources they have to quickly make and build another character are comparable. Not to mention all the Doff's, Items, Ships, etc we have acquired from Special event's past IE most recently Crystaline, with it's Antiproton Torp Reward, in which a new player would miss out on. Past rewards in some way should be reupp'ed for purchase either with the Temporal Officer, or Fleet, Or rewarded in some fashion.

As stated The above reason is why I don't go onto games that have been around for along while. Veteran players still have a massive advantage due to this.

The thing that makes me cringe is that for some, it will never be enough.

Just hang in there friends, the IWIN console will eventually show up, 1 year or 5 years down the road, just hang tough till then.

As for the last post, bnps are easy to get, go to defara ground invasion, get 1 for each hard mission, so that's 4 in about...20 minutes give or take, plus the fleet marks, and if you do the random stuff in between, you can get a bnp or two as a reward, dyson ground zone is pretty much the same, kill a trex get some dilithium and the item needed for the gear there, in pretty much the same amount of time.

Seriously folks, its not all going to be just handed to you, 20 minutes of groundwork wont kill you .

That only matters for PVP with strangers.

For new players, the game is now friendlier for leveling up even without the DR event, with better gear and boff rewards (purple instead of white). During the DR event new players get the gear, dil, marks, etc.

For alts, DR recruit is the best reason to create one in ages since you get the account-wide rewards, a faster leveling for reps, and a way to help your fleet.

Yes, your DR alt won't instant be level 60 with all spec points and a space pony. But if you're playing STO to have fun instead of as "work" then you should enjoy playing the revamped story missions with new DR tweaks. Besides, you already have one uber-character. Why not try something different? A new captain type, race, energy type, weapon loadout can all add some variety to your STO life.
