So I had a thought about what to do with the situation of constantly having to make new ships for new boff seating since T6 has finally arrived. Okay so instead of coming out with a new ship every time there is some kind of new Boff seat I.E. soon to be released Pilot specialized seating. The Devs could just let the players buy a Universal Boff seating that can fit be assigned to ships kind of like we use modals for out kits now. I can even just see Boff seating being a new ship module kind of like a out engines and shields, upgrades could be added too.
On another note specialized seating i.e. Command/Intel/Pilot need to become Universal Specialized seating. Please anyone who has other ideas different or otherwise I would love to hear them and hopefully we can get some support from the Devs from all the departments since this could potentially make their jobs much easier.
Ships would be split into two parts. The Ship with all of its base stats, unique consoles and ship perks would be one part but the other part would be the "kit". The Kit would determine BOFF seating, console slots, and the mastery trait. Converting to this type of system could begin at T5U and breathe continued life into the massive slew of ships that were top tier under the old system. In addition to making all of those older ships viable again, this can also be used as an alternate revenue source. I am pretty sure that a lot of people would be more than willing to pay 15 dollars for a Tier 6 Command Kit instead of being forced to pay 30 dollars for an entire ship they really dont want or need just to unlock a mastery trait.
They should only change Hybrid seat of all Unspecialized (aka Unthemed; Pathfinder is Unspecialized compared to the Scryer) T6 ships such as the Guardian, Mat'Ha, Aelahl, and Sheshar to Universal Specialization, or UniSpec. Only the Kobali would be restricted to Command, and the Lt. Hybrid on the JHSS would be left as Command, while its Lt.Cmdr seat gets UniSpec, to match the Sheshar.
Even if it costs 500 or 1000 Zen to do so per ship.
That way, it would still encourage spending on T6s, specialized or not, but it won't completely lock players to one specific specialization; esp. if they like a particular ship design (such as the majority who like the Guardian but want to use Command skills for example).
And the Specialized ships (Intel, Command, and eventual Pilot and other future series) would still have their value with being exclusively able to access Cmdr level Specialized abilities of their type.
As well, the Promo ships should especially be considered a priority since they cost far more than the C-Store ships. I'm not asking they be given the UniSpec seat free, but at least made one of the first to be able to get upgraded.
That way, T6 will be much friendlier to all players, and won't be very restrictive. And those who spent on those ships can have the option to upgrade the seats at their leisure.
And to nip it in the bud now, to balance sales and player flexibility, future Unspecialized ships that will invariably come with a Cmdr Hybrid seat could restrict it to two or 3 specializations, rather than being true UniSpec. That way, Cryptic can still steer it to a certain theme set, while letting a lower seat be true UniSpec.
So an example cruiser could see a Hybrid Cmdr Eng/ Intel-Command seat while another seat gets Lt. Sci/UniSpec. This also has the added advantage for Cryptic in still being able to sell a new and original design that doesn't necessarily fit the otherwise Specialized themes. They could instead just allow access to skins of that theme (in the example cruiser, access to the Intel skin and a Command skin, if one did exist).
As to making "Universal" truly Universal? I'm against it as it would be a big step backwards. T5U and T5FU can and still do the job. Until the time comes that T6 is mandatory, they shouldn't need to dumb down the system and further convolute it for newbies. As well, it'll further throw off any semblance of balance (Cmdr Intel on those ships with a Universal Cmdr seat, or Lt.Cmdr Intel on those Scimitars that set the DPS records Cryptic bases content difficulty on).
However, "Universal seating" should be renamed to reduce confusion. Such as "Multi-Class Seating" or "UniClass seating". Then the debate can simply be resolved. And to dumb down "UniSpec" as well, if it's still too complicated, renamed to "Multi-Spec Seating".
