New Aegis worth it?

I still use the Aegis set on one of my less-used captains...did it automatically get upgraded to the new stats with the release of the new crafting system?

Is it still a worthwhile set?

What sets do you favor?

Is there a site that shows a side-by-side comparison of all the various sets?

Thanks!!

If it still has Infinity mark, then you should "upgrade" the item . It will automatically upgrade to Mk XII.

I used it for my Samsar when leveling the Trait and I thought it was awesome, even at Mk XII.

Since I prefer to use the Nukara set, then my version is still in the bank. Yet I am considering going back because the Excelsior looks sexy with the visuals on. At the same time, for the Excelsior, only the outer impulse engines get the Aegis engine trails which is outrageously disappointing. Dunno.

No side-by-side that I have seen. I just print out from the Wiki and look at the various sheets like I'm pouring over battle-plans.

Even the updated Aegis is more or less meh.

If you want something for a less used character I'd recommend the Solanae Set you get from replaying the episode "A step between Stars". Easy to get and good stats to do endgame stuff with.

I prefer a combo of Nukara and Counter Command sets on my main who is using various cruiers for the most part.

for my phantom build im using the aegis shield to have the passive resists it has built into it and the energy resistance proc that can build up on any weapon type attacking you. That way i get a bit more resistance and i can use more offensive consoles and still have pretty good suitability. Also i am at full throttle clocking around 150% defense so i barely get touched as it is, but it works for my build pretty well.

If you already have it from long ago, the Aegis Set is a good stop gap. It provides Bonus Defense, Hyper-Impulse Engines, a Deflector that's good in shield systems/repairs.

My gripe with the Aegis Set is in the Shield, of all things. The cap is alright but the resists that stack up for it are hull resists, not shield resists. Not only that, the shields have no inherent resists of their own to anything and the resist build up for the hull is not a guarantee but another element of RNG for it to build up and have a rather short timer if you DO get the proc.

If you want to test this yourself, have your ship's "Stats" tab up showing the Hull Resists. You can see the appropriate resist climb up temporarily for what energy dmg you're facing ATM. That section only shows hull resists, nothing showing shield resists.

With all that in mind, I would not pursue the Aegis Set. Maybe the Engines and Deflectors, which aren't bad, and if you can get them on the cheap. Newly built Aegis gear is account bound now from a few months ago.

I would say the Aegis set lies somewhere between freebie sets and reputation sets.

As Warmaker says, it's a good stop gap set, something you can use while grinding decent fleet or reputation equipment. The crafted one is especially good as it's account bound, which is very handy if you're trying to grind an alt up (being the original, your's will sadly be character bound).

Also the Aegis shield's bonus hull resists is pretty useful when you end up hull tanking in a Borg STF. The engines alone are perhaps one of the best in the game for keeping yourself alive, thanks to the bonus defense and speed.

The set bonuses aren't that bad either to be honest. One of my farming alts uses it when doing CCA (Crystalline Entity Advanced) and the 2-piece bonus regularly negates the damage from a pulse. The 3-piece set bonus is a nice DPS and tank power.

Again, it's not great compared to other rep equipment, but it's not terrible either

Or to put it another way, it's a good stop gap set. :)

They should really go back and update the Aegis set to be more on par with the other Reputations sets. In addition, they need to add both a M/AM Warp Core and a singularity core to make it a four piece set.

Bump that, they need to fix the engine trails to work on all four Excelsior refit impulse engines instead of just the outer two engines.

The good thing about the Aegis Set, nowadays anyway, is that the set is account bound. The old sets are character bound. If you have the account-bound version, it's good to use until you can get something better.

That's what I do when I level up a new character to 50... give the new character the Aegis set until I can get the resources together to get rep or fleet gear for my ship.
