Pilot suggestion for pets

theredcomettheredcomet Member Posts: 0 Arc User
It seems like a solution to fighter pets dying too early might lie in the pilot tree.
What if elite fighter pets got some skills they can use from the pilot tree?

Thus actually giving one a reason to get the elite version.

    Not the Pilot tree.

First, they have already completed it. It won't change significantly enough to allow your suggestion.

Second, wrong specialization. That one is for Starships, not small craft.

What you want is a new Specialization: CAG (Commander Air Group) whose whole focus is on Shuttles/Fighters (I would prefer *not* frigate pets).

    It would be awesome.

Actually it is not a bad idea at all to make it so that all small craft get the pilot spec tree. It would allow them to avoid warp core explosions.

They keep trying to fix small craft to fly away from warp core explosions and clearly that does not work.

It's a horrible idea. Most of it wouldn't help them in the least and if they did that, that's where they'd drop it. Carriers deserve something specific for them. We have more specializations coming, let's use them.

What you're trying to do here is double dip. Get something your for ship and your fighters at the same time. Won't happen.

On the second point, I don't understand why they are trying to make them fly away- that solution is subject to all sorts of problems.

Instead they should increase the standoff distance, either across the board or by adding a Fighter Command (Standoff Attack).

Wonderful idea. Sadly they will never do it. I was thinking also the starship traits like pedal to the metal to also affect the pets aswell, all pets, not just the hangar pets. I mean, alot of them, if not the majority, one could say they are starships aswell, small sure, but starships none de less, warp capable and all that. And some are not even small, like the separation pets. Becouse if the hangar pets got some love with the last revamp and UI etc. and they do gain abilities like extra dmg and stuff like that by gaining ranks, the separation ones remained allmost the same since the beginning. They dont gain any buff from anything...

That said would be nice that a future specialisation to give some love to the pets. But all of them, no just the hangar ones.

And one last thing. Now you will be able to use the pilot spec tree along with your pets for some moar power...
One passive gives like +2% dmg for a pet that is located at max 2km near you. So a full carrier can get +24% dmg boost just be having its fighter pets around him. Also add +20% dmg boost (I think... or is it +15%, dont remember for sure) from improved pedal to metal.

The only pets (so far) that are going to get access to the Pilot spec are going to be the new Reinforcement Fighters.

They get access to Pilot Team and Scrape The Paint.

Newer pets after the Pilot spec releases might have access to Pilot powers, like how the Breen Choas Fighters have access to Evade Target Lock from the Intel powers.

They should just give all pets the Scratch the Paint passive ability to counter their terrible AI.

All I am trying to do is find a way for carrier pets to survive better. It takes a fair while to get Frigates up to 5 even with Wing Commander and they will still fly straight into a multiple warp core explosion and pop.

They have tried to fix this many times and make them fly away. Since they can't seem to figure out how to do that I figured they could take the code they already wrote for the pilot tree and give the pets the ability to be immune to warp core explosions.

Flying a carrier is darn hard to do well and the pets have gotten nerfed every time. You give up two weapon slots for 2 hangers and the pets where nerfed several times because people felt they did too much damage. It is fine for an Elite beam array to do more damage than the average play but if you replace that beam array with a Frigate it can't do the same thing and it can also explode and die leaving you without a weapon.

The game is not balanced and this would at least help with balance a little bit. Science should be able to kill just as fast as tactical and just as fast as engineering but done differently. Pets should upgrade and be just as powerful as weapon arrays are.

I agree with your goal, just not the method.

A specialty dedicated to the role of carrier would be the better method IMO and open up more options than pigging backing on a different specialty would.

One of the main abilities I would expect to see in a CAG (commander air group) specialty is avoiding warp core explosions. Other abilities that would come with a full specialization would be the cherry on top.

This would allow those who slot the specialty a pet advantage over those who slot different ones. And that's a good thing too.
