Remember that scene where Geordi had his implants removed on the Baku homeworld and saw a sunrise for the first time? Think what you will of Insurrection as a whole, but that was a beautiful moment.

The path towards a blind man enjoying a sunrise will be incremental, but one of those increments has been recorded. In this case, the colorblind, at least those afflicted by a certain type of colorblindness, finally get to see a full spectrum of color with the aid of a new type of glasses. And in this case, there is a sunset. You might want a tissue handy.

How exactly does this overcome the fact that some of the cones in a colorblind person's eyes have a physical issue with them? It's hard to comment without knowing the exact scientific principle and knowing whether there is a true equivalency they are claiming to produce with these glasses or not.

As I understand it, from what I've seen, this lens deals only with a certain kind of colorblindness, which cannot separate contrary colors (red and green were given as example). The lens allows the separation, revealing one or both colors where before the unaided eye only saw a neutral. I'm not sure it has anything to do with replacing missing physical elements.
