    Um . . . . fun for me?

That's a vague question, some more details would help.

Yes, the game is currently online, but tomorrow it will be down for maintenance for a few hours.

    Feels complete.

    60 levels.

A bit of that F2P pay for privileges, but that's really to be expected from a F2P title.

    No playable Horta or Targs.

Still 2 factions, but Romulans get an individual storyline up to mid levels, and then merge into either faction of their choice.

Not enough Nausicaan ships viable at end game.

The JHAS is no longer the most game-breaking ship of all time, that's now the JHSS.

In all seriousness, if you want an intelligent answer you would do well to advise of how long it's been since you stopped playing, and what your individual concerns are.

The JHSS is not even the best escort. It's good, better than the old one, but no way game-breaking.

All your old ships and gear are obsolete.

STFs are much more difficult and give fewer rewards. Its very difficult to farm reputation marks without a tweaked build.

    PVP is dead.

Some new systems have been added but they are all designed to drain your dilithium so that you have to buy more. You can craft things with resources and dilithium if you grind your way up the R&D ladder (months of daily clicking or you can pay massive amounts of dilithium to shortcut the grind). You can enhance items with upgrades that cost dilithium. You can train your BOFFs with training manuals that cost dilithium. The refining cap hasn't changed any.

No matter what, I'm always going to disagree with you when you say ships are obsolete when it was clear in another thread that a ship doesn't have to be considered obsolete with the right frame of mind.

The game is fine. (You have to accept the changes or stop playing.)

The forums have descended to a new level of gibbering madness.
Not that there aren't legitimate criticisms voiced here, but there impact is significantly brunted by the wails of the of the mad who can't accept the game as it is. (Screaming into the void will not change things.)

It's a reasonable discussion. I think the T5 upgrades are still competitive. Which would be a big promise kept.

    I fly T5:

    Vesta

    Xindi Carrier

    T6:

    Kobali

    Breen carrier

    Intrepid

They are all laid out completely differently. The Vesta and the Breen are at 14. The others are all at 13 with the Xindi going up to 14 this week.

The Vesta is my first character's ship but really all the others perform as well. Heck, the Intrepid with double tractor pulls now gets first in crystalline every time. Overall I can't find much space between them in performance. I like them all. Maybe there are other more powerful ships out there at T6? Moreso than scimitar?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."

T5-U is not T5. If the OP has been away for a while then his ships are still T5 that require zen to get a kind of minimum level. Especially if he is still lvl 50.

Unless, of course, he already had a T5 ship from a promotion that already qualified for a free T5-U upgrade.

    Here's the list: http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/7002163

And yes, an upgrade token will be required if the OP wants his ship to level up its' hull points and get passive bonuses for Starship Mastery. I forget what the going rate is for those. He might even get a free upgrade token if he's a Vet.

I'll agree, though, that it would help to know when the OP last played STO to know what changes he should expect to see.

It's a cash grab. Their latest stint is to release a new set of Boff powers, and then several ships of which can use those powers. First you had Intel, with a bunch of Intel Ships. Then came Command with a bunch of Command Ships. Next comes Pilot with ... you guessed it, Pilot Ships.

    Don't follow the flock.

Well if this game is improving it a slow snail crawling improvement. I am still getting reports on Lag and lack of players queuing up for a PVE/STF's, therefore I still don't see any reason to come back to the game even with the coming DR Recruits event.

The game is Dead, this was Cryptic's doing, mostly due in part because they wouldn't listen to the main player base who had legitimate complaints.

But don't get me wrong, I do hold a small glimmer of hope that changes for the better of the game will come about, but I am not going to hold my breath that those changes + fixes come fast enough. Only time will tell. Or maybe it is by then, the game just won't exist. . We'll see.

The current state of the game is where you encounter super strong enemies to get anything done and you have to put the new dilithium coins into the dilithium coin slots just to fire your weapons. The coin slot is now located conveniently next to the captains chair on the bridge.

The current state of the game is this:

There is alot of content now and many systems that will take you a long time to 'master'. Alot of this content is actually quite fun, quality of missions has been ever increasing and the addition of star voice talent is really good. Mistakes that have been made with failure optionals in pve queues are slowly being fixed one queue at a time.

However, alot of the aforementioned systems are either grindy as hell (e.g. doffing, R&D, captain specialisations) or rely on significant dropping of resource/random chance (upgrading/crafting). Other systems are just poorly thought through and completely ruin the balance in the game (captain specialisations, hybrid boff powers). For this reason PVP is utterly dead. Kerrat is empty, pvp queues never pop, and thus this game is pretty much a single player game.

The game is also replete with bugs. Some have been around since beta (team chat bug), others are relatively new but pretty awful from a gameplay perspective (loadouts bug). Something that is very recent (since anniversary in Feb) is horrific lag across multiple elements in the game (UI, powers, combat) which in my opinion makes alot of the game unplayable atm with no signs of these things improving (fixing bugs does not equate to selling things in the c-store in Cryptics eyes, however they are obviously wrong there).

All in all I like some of the direction that STO has gone in (improving/revisiting/adding content, addition of voice talent, some of the new systems) but it is greatly outweighed by the stupid things that have been done for and after Delta Rising.

The arrogance and impudence of the Devs (and a lead designer in particular - naming no names) is quite something to behold. The lack of respect they have for their PAYING customers is pretty shocking. There has been an improvement to this affect (with better communication and less insults flying around) since Salami Inferno took over the reigns as Executive Producer, but when your lead designer clearly demonsrates they have NO understanding of the mechanics of the game in interviews it is a pretty worrying situation to be in.

The community has suffered greatly since Delta Rising. The forums have been aglow for months. My fleet (55 unique players across hundreds of toons) has completely abandonded the game. It has been six weeks since I saw one of them log in. My friends list is also pretty quiet. Of course there are some great communities out there holding up against the tide - the DPS channel has great advice and players to help, Accolades, NoP Public Service, Organised PvP to name but a few, but the game feels more empty than it has ever been.

To stem the flow we have seen back to back events for the last few months with limited edition one-time-only rewards as an effort to coax players back, but again this seems to be a desperate and not well thought out measure.

I am hopeful for Delta Recruitment to help, but given the few details we have thus far it will not address some of the pressing issues that STO has.

Wow, this is pretty much the most accurate description of the current state of STO one can get. Well described and I find myself in agreement 99%. :)

The 1% I find in minor disagreement is doffing. I like it the way it is as well as the benefits it provides. For me this is not a grind at all, rather a distraction from the actual game itself. But ok the past few moths it has been a good distraction optimized by me to the limit. All my 8 toons have one primary and one secondary spec tree filled thanks to it.

Sorry you misunderstood (or more likely I wasn't clear!)... Doffing a fresh toon from level zero (and no decent doffs in your roster) to level 4+ in all commendations takes a long time. Grind is probably the wrong word. Doffing is by far the one of the few things I still enjoy in the game and like you this is the reason all ten of my toons have one primary and one secondary (and working on the second secondary! - argala was not for me).

It is a great source of XP, also a decent source of dilithium and is one of the few areas of the game not massively affected by the lag.

In my opinion the day Heretic left was the day things around here started going downhill...
