Will we now get Pilot hybrid ships?

razar2380razar2380 Member Posts: 1,187 Arc User
I have been thinking about this since they announced that they were now making Pilot a primary in the CapSpec system.

They have made Intel, and Command hybrid ships, and even a Intel+Command hybrid ship. If they are not going to come out with a new CapSpec tree, then what will they sell for ships? They may do more Intel+Command hybrids, but that will only offer so much.

Could it be possible that they are making the Pilot system a primary one because they decided to make ships with a Pilot hybrid station? In the past they have said they were changing something for 1 reason, but it was actually for another reason. However, by doing that misinformation, it allowed them to offer something that others might not have seen coming.

So, what do you think? Do you think we will be getting a Pilot hybrid ship next?

Intrepid - intel (we got that already)

    Galaxy - command

    Defiant - Pilot

    And "Klingon" equivalents.

    It's actually kind of logical.

Escorts/Raiders/Light Warbirds that would be even more mobile and agile, though they'd be more mobile and agile than hangar pets (which might break immersion for some; having a larger (relative) ship perform aircraft level stunts).

Also would get out a T6 Defiant pretty fast (Pathfinder-style seating but in Tac, with Sci/Pilot hybrid seat), which is due for a 3 pack like the Galaxy (Gal-X doesn't count) and Intrepid.

Maybe later release a Prometheus with Intel/Pilot or Command/Pilot. Bonus if a new console allows the separated parts to also benefit from said abilities; such as SS1 allowing all parts to SS1, or using Overwhelm Emitters 2 allowing all parts to use a weaker Overwhelm Emitters 1 skill. Or using Rock and Roll causes all 3 to Rock and Roll.

Could also see a possible Pilot Patrol Escort based on a fighter/bomber role (using Nadeon Saturation Bomb).

And for KDF, also get out a brand new Pilot Raptor (because Raptors are the new Raiders). And maybe a Pilot Siege Destroyer. And a Pilot Battlecruiser; because others will be envious of the KDF having a fast battlecruiser that can perform acrobatic stunts in a new form of Shock and Awe.

And for Roms, maybe a new Pilot T'Varo, Dhelan, or Ar'Kif. Though personally, I'd rather have a Command T'Varo; if only to stuff in Concentrate Firepower for a full-on HY Plasma Torp build along with the Red Ball of Death (or better yet, make the Red Ball of Death console truly universal and equippable on any ship, like PlasLeech or Nadeon Detonator, and available in a future Lockbox). So I'd rather they make a Pilot Dhelan or Pilot Ar'Kif variant, and a Command T'Varo (unless the T'Varo's console is made available to use on any ship).

Will there be Klingon equivalents though? Unless you consider the Raptor to be it...which if it were it would be a sad case.

Truthfully if it's going to be called pilot then every ship should have a seat

I'm slightly confused. Are you asking if there will be ships with a pilot boff slot? If you are then the answer is yes, tribble already has training manuals for pilot boff abilities and it'd be pretty stupid to have those with no ship to use them on.

If you're asking if there will be a hybrid ship like the jemmy strike ship with both a pilot slot and another spec slot (intel or command presumably) then I don't know really. It's possible, but likely not for a while.

These sound like really good ideas. However, I was thinking about something that might let you move a ship straight sideways, or straight up and down. It could be something that you activate temporary, and can be deactivated with a cool down.

Here is an example, you are in a cruiser, and are broadsiding multiple enemies at once. If you use this ability, it will give you limited invulnerability from holds, while decreasing defense slightly. You can move straight up or down, and it will still keep your weapons on the enemy.

There will be like an energy bar that will fill up to use the skill again, and can only be used while the skill is active. Some skills from the skill tree can increase how fast it fills up.

If you are flying an escort, it will let you strafe side to side as long as you are not moving forward or backwards. During this time, your accuracy drops slightly, but your defense increases greatly. The bar will work the same, and it will need to be charged to activate it.

For science ships, it can boost their speed and turn rate. Though, it will also increase their weapons damage, but lowers their science powers effectiveness slightly for the short time.

These are just a few ideas I had that would make it something that will focus on more than just DPS. It will offer more survivability, and a new flight control. When the Pilot ability on these ships is active, it will use the normal flight controls for the abilities controls. So, in a cruiser, your normal up and down controls will change to a straight up and down movement, without turning the nose up or down.

In escorts, it will turn the left to right controls into a left to right strafing control.

I doubt they would consider something like this because it is not going to increase DPS, but I do think it would be fun to play with. But anyway, I still think we will see a Pilot hybrid ship because unless they add a new CapSpec, there really isn't anything they can do to sell more power creep they now have unless they make more ships with dual hybrid ships again.

But, if they do that, then it will mean the special ship that now has that is no longer so special.

Sorry, I was in the middle of typing my last reply when you wrote this. I didn't know that there were Pilot Boff skills on Tribble. I have only hopped over there to check out the new galaxy map they have.

I never went back after that though. But thank you for letting me know about that. I just wonder which one the Summer grind ship will have. Or if they will have a new CapSpec tree by then.

Well, probably. The Negh'Var will be the Galaxy (Command) hybrid, a BoP might be the Defiant (Pilot) equivalent - the only thing the KDF doesn't have is a Intel hybrid to my knowledge, but maybe they get something along the line.

I don't think the summer event is far enough away that we'll have another spec by then, but it is far enough away that we'll have had pilot ships for a while most likely. That means the summer ship can't be a teaser for pilot abilities in the same way that the kobali ship was for command abilities. My guess is it might be like the breen carrier from the winter event, it'll have a lt. level pilot slot (maybe lt. cmdr) like how the carrier has a lt. level intel seat, but it won't be a pilot ship really. I might be wrong though, they may well give us a full pilot ship with a commander level slot.

things that will sell best for them

    T6 Defiant Pilot Hybrid
    T6 BOP Pilot Hybrid
    T6 T'varo Pilot Hybrid

    T6 Galaxy Command Hybrid
    T6 Negvar Command Hybrid
    T6 D'deridex Command Hybrid

I think this is the next 2 releases and its why i havent spent anything on the latest ship releases. These are coming soon because we all know these will be cash cows.

    OP, from today's blog
In order to utilize the Pilot Officer space abilities, you must be flying a starship that has a Hybrid Pilot Officer Bridge Officer seat. They are not usable in “Universal” Profession seats, or existing Intelligence Specialist or Command Specialist Bridge Officer seats. The line-up of starships that will have hybrid Pilot Officer seats has not yet been announced, but keep your eyes on our website for those announcements!

    So yep.
