So I understand motherboards and video cards become obsolete. I just want to know, what do I need to run STO whithout any lag.
Should I add another ATI 7900 Vid Card or should I build a new PC.
I just want to play.
Hardware just affects what settings you should run at. Running at High with outdated hardware will take longer for the game to render, but it won't affect lag. If you like to currently settings and don't want to make the game look better, then there is no need to upgrade. Here are the system requirements so if you want to upgrade or buy a new PC, then do it for a game with harsher system requirements which is what I did to play Dragon Age Inquisition.
Minimum System Requirements

Lag is something that is sometimes caused by internet troubles between where you are and where the servers are. So all you can do is ensure that your internet is good, but you can't do anything about Cryptic's internet connection or other network connections that your signal passes through. So there is no way to build a lag-less PC.

What sort of lag are you experiencing?
And what makes you think adding another poorly integrated hardware component, likely improperly installed/configured, will make any difference?
I run on a crappy dual core with a crappy video card barely capable of handling DX11, from the opposite side of the US where Cryptic houses their servers, and outside of Cryptic's ISP acting up, an "unusually" high amount of player traffic, or certain very specific in-game conditions mostly related to the number of objects in the STF/map, rarely if ever see any lag.
And the first two of those exceptions I listed are likely the result of the same issue; Cryptic's ISP throttles their traffic once activity breaks a certain threshold, which is something that only happens under periods of high concurrent logins.

well, I have 16 gb of RAM, my mother board is a quad core, and my vid card is an ATI 7900.
I had heard of people running two vid cards on the game, but I guess it could be my WIFI NDual Band WNDA3100, is that the cause.
Couldn't find anything more recent than 2012 and that was probably PWE just reposting the original specs.
They added the recommended with the 2013 update there, no? Cause they did some stuff with Season 8..cause the updated system requirements at the Arc site was around that period of time, and heh - they were even experiencing some GPU crashes with a patch right around that time.

It really is bad during PvE.
Some folks out there have supported some bug reports/videos suggesting that it's because of certain traits...still kind of waiting to see what Cryptic says about it.
Aye, the introduction of the Starship Traits...couldn't have happened before Delta Rising. My bad for not making it clear they were talking about Starship Traits when I mentioned Traits before.
