You guys ruined the mystery surrounding Stass's sex and I can never forgive you now. I would like to refute kestrel's claim by asking, how do you know Stass's male sounding voice is indicative of him being male? Maybe the universal translator malfunctioned and assigned him a male tone of voice. Maybe gorn are hermaphrodites and reproduce asexually.
In light of kestrel claiming Stass is male on Twitter, the following question must be asked: if there are male gorn, then there must necessarily be female gorn. Consequently, we should be able to make female gorn captains in the character creator. What are your thoughts on this and would you like to be able to play a female gorn?

Without some scanning or asking how would you tell a male and female gorn apart?
Reptiles don't produce milk for their young so that bit of obvious dimorphism isn't necessarily there as a cue.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
I wouldn't mind JJ gorn variants to spice things up a little. Would you like JJ female gorn though?
Also, my understanding was that the Gorn in TOS were quite technologically advanced so shouldn't that be reflected in STO by giving gorn characters boosts to science powers similar to the kinds of innate bonuses trill have? In fact, Cryptic could release female gorn and give them these sorts of innate racial science bonuses.
I believe there are differences in the males and females in JJ trek.
Female Gorn are supposed to be bigger than the males, by quite a large margin. Probably why they aren't in game as it would be too much effort to change all the uniforms and the like for something KDF.
Why am I glad that I missed this entire conversation?
I wasn't even aware it was a conversation. There were a couple of offhand comments made in the thread announcing the new Brotherhood of the Sword ground STF, of all things, and apparently this eventually lead to someone bugging peeps at Cryptic about it.
Again, I'm not quite sure why this was such an issue. In game dialogue clearly used male pronouns when referring to S'taass.
"There will never be enough blood to wash away my need for vengeance! A single world...I could destroy a million worlds and it would not be enough! Your existence is an insult to the memory of my people! I will continue my fight, even if I must fight alone!"
How did people get the impression S'tass wasn't male anyway? I mean he is referred to as such in the game, plus his translated voice is male. He is also not big enough to be a female Gorn.

Is it because the uniforms don't scale well? I don't understand why it would be difficult to add them in.

While we're at it, are we going to ask for female Nausicaans and Letheans as well?

He's a pretty big guy, so maybe some thought that was the right size for a female Gorn.
As for the other obvious signs, I think some folk willingly overlooked them, for whatever reason....

Introducing female nausicaans makes sense but female Letheans? Letheans creep me out way too much; imagine creepy female letheans running around q'nos all up on your ships and in your crews. Seriously, hide your targs, hide your significant other!
Given that the set of current humans who have attempted to gain a cat like appearance through surgery is not an empty set, I could have seen catgirl conversions being a thing in the future. And that is what I hoped they were and not Caitians.
Given the complaints of "forehead aliens" in scifi shows, now that CGI is good enough I'd have preferred he left Caitians as the cartoon/STO bipedal feline alien. It's not as if the Kirk of old would have cared.

I have literally no idea what is going on. Reading up on it I am with Valoreah on the matter

Thank you Kestrel. The whole debate was stupid beyond belief.
you're not alone

They could give female gorn different color options for their scales and/or have unique innate traits like the ones I suggested above.
It could very well be that I saw the JJ Gorn but did not realize they were Gorn.
I had to look up if the furless felinoids waking up with Kirk were supposed to be Caitians.
They were...unfortunately...

Which was a flawed assumption considering there are zero female gorns ever seen in this version of Trek. That means nothing to base size on...

I have to agree.
Tell me you are joking.
Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's, and yours.
I dare you to do better.
