Samsar Build - Advice Appreciated

walterofbishopwalterofbishop Member Posts: 14 Arc User
Hi All,

I'm a casual player who is looking to invest more time and effort into the PVEs and other social aspects of the game. I'm currently using the Samsar, and after reviewing the forums for a while, I have become painfully aware that my DPS is very low (high three digits - low four digits).

I was hoping to get some feedback and advice on developing an effective build. I've completed the Romulan and Omega Reps, and am close to finishing Dyson and Delta, so I'll will be working to earn enough marks to purchase sets that are recommended. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Edit -

The blank weapon slot in the fore is the Crystalline Torpedo.

1: You don't have the turn rate to make dual beams work, so go with singles. And in the rear, you need both a crafted omni-beam, and the Ancient omni-beam.

2: Get rid of that Borg torpedo.

3: You need Vulnerability Locators for those Antiprotons.

4: You can keep your Torpedo Spread, but your Lieutenant Tactical needs to be Tactical Team, and Fire At Will.

5: You need to replace ALL of those Engineering consoles with either the Enhanced RCS with [ResALL], or the Neutronium with [Turn]. They don't necessarily help your DPS, but they do add a lot to your survivability.

6: The Commander slot for your Engineering needs to be Emergency Power to Structural Integrity Field.

7: Switch the Transfer Shield Strength and Hazard Emitters.

For reference of abilities, weapons, and consoles, here is my Dreadnought build. It is close enough to provide a good example of what I mean.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

What are your traits, power levels, and engagement ranges/piloting technique?

First problem I see is that you're loaded for beams, but you're not making use of them with your tactical bridge seats. Bluntly, you should be running Beams: Fire at Will(it stacks with suppression barrage - you can use both at the same time). Tactical seating is quite limited and I can't really recommend running torpedo attacks on the ship - I'd suggest a Tac Team 1 and 2x BFAW.

With that many beams, you should be running Emergency Power to Weapons(2 or 3). This will feed your beams to let them keep doing full damage while also giving you a brief raw damage boost. The finer points of your engineering bridge slots depends on your playstyle, but it could use some refinement either way(Aceton Beam 3 may have some use versus bosses, but it's generally not worth slotting - especially on a ship that can use Suppression Barrage as well).

Consoles: Fill your tactical slots with AP Mags/AP Spire consoles. Damage consoles stack at the base level before other modifiers are applied - each will add the same flat amount of damage to each weapon; damage type consoles are the biggest bang for your buck. For Science consoles, try to get ahold of an Emitter Array(+Shield Emitters) and Field Generator(+Shield Capacity).

There are some more advanced ideas to get better performance out of the ship, but these are the fundamentals you should probably sort out first.

    Edit -

The blank weapon slot in the fore is the Crystalline Torpedo.

    Easy peesy build for you.

Make adjustments all you want but, this thing takes care of 99.9% of what is required!

    http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=nomusnofusstank_5460

1 of the aft beams should be an Omni 360 or, if you use AP weapons, than make 2 of the aft weapons Omni 360 arrays, while 2 of the consoles are left blank, well that's because really you can chose what you want IMO.

Really not a hard ship to make something with, yours could use a little better planning is all but, if it gets the job done effectively, w/o being some hindrance to the other's, than make only slight changes if needed.

Because it wasn't mentioned the the locator and enhanced rcs consoles are fleet only.

However a conductive rcs console is also pretty handy and can be crafted or bought off the exchange.

I would drop the Borg and crystalline torpedo in favor of the Dyson space set. It boosts its own damage and crit chance.

You should also see about reducing cool down as much as possible, this can be done in a number of ways and really depends on you budget, look into the delta rep console.

Thank you all for your quick responses. I'll begin making some of the immediate changes (single and omnibeams and ditching torpedoes) and will start exploring options for the BOFF powers and more difficult to acquire items. I appreciate the assistance. Cheers!

I like the Beam Boat as you show it... A great start. What are the rear- Omni Beams? I see one from the Borg set (Kinetic). One from the sphere mission playthru (Omni-Antiproton infinity). I assume the next one is a crafted Omni Antiproton... so what is the fourth Omni-Beam from? Just curious, since I have a similar basic beam build for my alts filling in their trees.

You can equip 2 of the ancient Omni beams arrays If you right click on one and click on upgrade, this will change it from Infinity to MK12. One has to stay as the default Infinity Symbol ancient Omni beam array, the other you can upgrade all the way to MK14 is you wish.

If you get a Fleet Enhanced Nutronium that boosts your turn rate, toss in a Conductive RCS Accelerator, which you can buy off the exchange for around 500k EC. Your turn rate should be fine for using dual beam banks.

I like the Romulan Hyper Plasma Torp better then borg. Sometimes it's good to have targetable projectiles out there infront of you. It can attract enemy fire.

If your set on Antriproton Snag the Obelisk warp Core, & Ancient Omni-Direction Beam Array from the mission 'Sphere of Influence.' Put the Ancient Antiproton Beam in the back next to your Borg Kinetic Cutting Beam. With the Warp Core, & Ancient Beam combo you get a 10% boost to Anitproton Damage.

If you do go with Dual Beam Banks in the front, You can afford to hook up a couple torpedoes with that Ancient Antiproton padding your Forward arc. You will get the most out of the Dual Beam Banks for DPS, but will have to constantly keep your targets in front of you. Against big, or single targets that's not an issue. Against large groups of enemies Swap out the Dual Beam Banks for single Beam Banks, and toss in a couple copies of Beam Fire at will on your tactical Bridge Officers. Against Borg the Dual Beam Banks work better. Because they are slow. And it's easier to keep them in your forward firing arc.

The Kobali set is ok for tanking, but does not help with DPS.

This is what your firing sequence should be. Activate an Emergency power to weapons, then Tactical Team, Then a beam enhancing attack. Like overload, or Fire at will. Allot of folks favor Fire at will, but that can get messy. And attract allot of attention.

When you need heals use Auxiliary to Structural, for hull. & Science Team for shields.
Finally decided to make a sig.
I see allot of them with a character, and ship.
though I'm not sure which ship to put on there...
I'll think about it. This will do for now.
