They look good when they blow up, doesn't matter if it's from Dominion, Borg, or Constitution fire.

They have patronage that makes the USAF's 'Bomber Mafia' look like a poorly written fan petition in terms of political support, apparently.

They were the first Starfleet design seen not of the Constitution class, so they're important for that out of universe.

Also, they're clearly the design lineage for the Nebula class, one of my favorite designs.

Also they're apparently a very worthwhile low-cost design, even if not suited for high-intensity combat operations, there's plenty of other things Starfleet does.

The most believable Federation ship model ever made, all others are absurd

^ Except for the Excelsior. So, shame on you. :P

Ultimately though, the ship does make sense from a design perspective IMO too.

    I wish I didn't trash mine by mistake :(

They're good for their purpose, which is to be disposable cannon fodder.

Khan Noonien Singh didn't seem to mind the design.

Ooh! Command systems so well integrated, even an ensign can successfully command one against the Borg! :)

It kicked the TRIBBLE out of the Enterprise.

And it has a rollbar. How many spaceships do you see with a freaking rollbar?

Only because Jim Kirk was carrying the Idiot Ball.

And yes, a rollbar on your starship is very important. During a rollover maneuver, you wouldn't want to... hit your head... on the bottom of, um, space... you know something, that doesn't really make sense, does it? ;)

One of my favorite ship designs. For its time, it was simple, sleek and compact. No weird hulls, had cool nacelles, and proved to be an equal to the Constitution Class. Also like how the dish converts from a circle into this blocky hull. If I was stuck in one of these for the rest of the game, I wouldn't mind.

Well...maybe a little. I'm pretty sure I would spend everyday looking out my ready room; looking at Galaxies, Nebulas, Novas, Auroras, Zephyrs, Steamrunners; and say to myself, "Man how I wish I could command those glorious vessels."

and he would know, how? kirk acted within the regulations, khan played his cards right, if it were not for some dirty trick kirk played with the command codes, the miranda would of won the fight without any real battle damage. the connie was also well behind the times at this point. the miranda was most certainly a match for the connie, unfortunately that day the plot armour was strong with the enterprise, as was the force :P.

Because Lt. Saavik tried to remind him of the relevant regulation (of which he claimed to be well aware). And got slapped down for it.

Thus continuing the long tradition of the sensible boff telling their maverick captain "don't do the dumb thing" and the captain going, "I'm doing the thing," with the logical result.

Because otherwise we'd have no movie/episode!

I admit to a fondness to the ol' girl(s) myself. Not the equal of the Connie refit, but the first real alternative and a nice design in their own right. Relegated to the mook role by later shows, but still there in the fight, taking hits so the heroes don't.

as i recall kirk never had the chance to answer that himself, but rather spock slapped her down for her suggestion. right after this kirk was trying to figure out what is going on with the reliant's communications, but he gave himself some time to think on it.

your logic would suggest he didnt even attempt it or acknowledge the regulation quoted to him, when he did.

Then why didn't he obey regulations, and raise shields? It's not like it was the very first time a starship had been suborned. Hell, it wasn't the first time a starship had been suborned by Khan! And General Orders are there for a reason. After it was all said and done, Kirk should have been charged with failure to obey a standing order, and been held responsible due to negligence for every death in that encounter.

I don't know what hat you pulled this rabbit out of but the Reliant class / STO Miranda had around 3/4 of the firepower of the Enterprise class / STO Exeter

As far as weapons Technology on the ships they were Equal they both used the same phaser and torpedo type's

anyway on of my most favorite star trek films loved it and still do
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

Seeing as it's still in service it can't be all bad.

    Ah! Brainwave!

I don't play MOBA's but I do watch a bit of Heroes of the Storm on YT. Recently they released a character called the 'Lost Vikings'. They are actually 3 characters you micromanage at the same time, weaker individually but can work together to great effect.

Wouldn't it be sweet if STO had a similar system. Instead of endgame versions of lower tiered ships just have a couple of wingmen flying the same ship to assist you like pets from a carrier.

It would never happen, just to be clear I know this, it would be cool though :)

Seeing as you already have a varible number of boffs follwing you around on ground maps, I don't see why you cant have a couple of Miranda's (commanded by your long overdue for promotion to captain boffs) as well on the space maps, operated like hanger pets. The mechanisms are already programmed into the game, they just need to be made to work together if the game devs see this as a worthwhile thing to do.

Back on topic, the Miranda coass has proven to be the work horse of Starfleet doing all the jobs that the rest of the fleet either are not suited to do or are too important to do. So without the Miranda class there wouldn't be a fleet or possibly a Federation!
