As an f2P player Id like to thank you devs for helping making sure that the 50Dollar scimi pack was never a waste of money and that my earlier post to you about the scimi was heeded to a certain degree --> http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1285881
lolol too true there. I should have just bought the scim tac version. That completely useless thaloron pulse noobtrap thing was too tempting not to have though lol

The thaloron pulse is useless, and so is the cloaked barrage. However, the secondary shield, and shields while cloaked are nice. Also, with both of them, you can also get better turn rate without needing to waste a console slot for a RCS console.
I am glad that I got the bundle, and would have been upset if i only got 1 of them.
But, it all depends on the individual. I run forward facing builds, and beam arrays on mine. Also, I don't have the A2B build, so I can pump out more DPS than when I did have the A2B build.
But still, the Scimitar is one of my fav Rommie ships in the game. Very versatile ship.
And if I want to focus on engineering, or science builds in it, I can just swap from one to the other for the better console slots for better support.
Sadly though, since the game is so DPS focused, and Rommies and KDF get so few ships, I have made my tac Fed my first main for when I do pop into the game. Most likely, with how they are reselling old T5 ships, I can see them making reselling the Scimitar, just with a different shell on it like the other ships have been.

I have the T5U Scim for my Rom TacOff and I have yet to ifnd a replacement for it. Granted, I did not buy the set - but I have the Aegis set on it as well as the appropraite rep traits, etc. and it SHREDS. After taking on STFs in that and then going to my Eng or Sci off everything just feels so slow...
The only thing I am having trouble with is my shields. I know I've sacrificed some defence for massive dps but I'd like ot find a decent balance to keep my shields up fa rlonger than they are now... it feels like they're mad eof cardboard sometimes...

I suggest trying the Solanae three piece space set you get for free from the episode "A Step Between Stars". It is really good for shields tanking, and survivability.
Sorry you didn't get the bundle. The secondary shield is good for helping with survivability. However, the console that peterconnorfirst mentioned can help a little. Also, science consoles that increase the max cap of your shields will help, as well as Boff skills that will buff damage resistance.

Considering he is going for dps, such a beginners-set will most likely be a setback. Valdore-console is the way to go as a rom.

Just because it is not from a rep system, it doesn't make it a "beginners-set". In fact, it is a very good set for survivability, thereby allowing more Boff skills to be focused towards ways to do more DPS.
The important thing to keep in mind is that with the crafting system, there are a lot of consoles that you can get that will help to increase DPS, and offer other benefits at the same time. The Valdore console only really offers one benefit, and if I am not mistaken, it doesn't have a set piece bonus.
With the right build, you can have really good survivability, as well as some of the high DPS.
If you read the post that I quoted there, they mentioned that they would like to have better shields. The Solanae set offers better survivability, and even has better set bonuses as vs the Aegis. By upgrading to the Solanae set, they will be able to do what they are looking for without needing to buy a C-Store ship, and use up another console slot.
The Aegis set was originally the "beginner-set" for end game content. It was used mainly used till someone could gain T3 or T5 in the old Omega rep system. At T3 you used to be able to buy all three pieces of an Omega set at MK XI. At T5, you could get the MK XII. The Aegis was used to hold you over till you reach one of those Tiers.
With the changes to the rep systems, and the crafting and upgrade systems, the Aegis was boosted a little so that it was better than it was. However, the Solanae set never needed to be boosted any. It was a set you could obtain at MK XII, and was just as good of quality as a MK XII from the T5 rep systems.
It is still superior to the Aegis set for survivability, and doesn't need to be crafted, or bought. And with the addition of Dil (though ridiculous amounts) added to the replay of episodes, you can still make a very little bit of Dil, while at the same time getting your Solanae set.
This is why I suggested the Solonae set. If they had said that they were "going for dps" then I wouldn't have suggested either. There are other sets out there that will help min/max DPS, at the cost of survivability.
I hope this helps to clear up the misunderstanding there.

Sigh, by running running solonae there is no possibility to run nukara 2pc+romulan engines, which do increase dps. There is also no place running assimilated 2pc for energy (well, that would matters only for medium range now) and the massive hullheal. Combine that either with the rom engines or a fleet shield (/dyson for fast runs) and you outtank and outdps solonae easily.
For players wanting to pug up to 50k, it is also still viable slotting EPtS and EPtW and 3DCEs.
The solonae is not bad for starters (though in the time you do the mission three times, you could also farm the dilithium for buying a better combination), but at the higher range it pals compared to the offensive or medium-offensive choices.
P.S.: I mentioned it because he said he sacrificed things for dps, so he is going for dps imo.

He said "I have the Aegis set on it as well as the appropraite rep traits, etc. and it SHREDS."
Then, in the following paragraph, he said this, "The only thing I am having trouble with is my shields. I know I've sacrificed some defence for massive dps but I'd like ot find a decent balance to keep my shields up fa rlonger than they are now... it feels like they're mad eof cardboard sometimes..."
You are correct that "he said he sacrificed things for dps,". However, he didn't say that his problem is that he needs more DPS. He said it was shield survivability, not lack of DPS.
He said he was running the Aegis set, which is a decent space set, but still not as good as the Solanae set. To give him much better survivability, all he will need to do is get the Solanae set.
As I said in my last post, "If they had said that they were "going for dps" then I wouldn't have suggested either. There are other sets out there that will help min/max DPS, at the cost of survivability."
But they clearly said that they were not wanting to sacrifice more survivability. They said that survivability was the problem. So, encouraging them to sacrifice more survivability for more DPS will not help them.
You are correct that there are other sets out there that can help tank as good as the Aegis, and offer more DPS than the Solanae set. But, again, they said the Aegis set is what they have, and the shield survivability is their problem. Therefore, going with a better DPS set, while NOT increasing their ability to tank will not help any. It is like giving more water to someone drowning.
This is why I suggested replacing the Aegis set for the Solanae set. Just the 3 piece set. For a warp core, they can go with a fleet core if they want to increase DPS later, while keeping the better survivability.
If they would like to only increase DPS, then yes, I do know that there are better sets, and builds out there for that. Since the game, after DR was released, is now heavily focused on DPS, there are still some players out there that are not about reaching the top of the charts. Some are fine with the DPS they are doing, and would like to try to find other ways of improving their builds.
Sometimes that means trying to increase survivability, while not losing their DPS they already have. I offer help and suggestions based off of what people are looking for. Sometimes I recommend something else, but I still offer them suggestions on how to do what they want to.
Since upgrading from the Aegis set to the Solanae set will not cost them any DPS, but will improve their shield tanking at the same time, I suggested it. If they were running a set that increased DPS, instead of running the Aegis set, then I would have offered other suggestions that might have helped them, without losing the DPS that set offered, if the DPS from the set was not able to be offset by changing Boff skills, or consoles.
Like I said though, you are correct that there are other builds out there that are better for DPS. And if they want to go that route instead of increasing their survivability, then there is no problem with that at all. I am not saying there is. I am only explaining why I didn't suggest a higher DPS build, instead of one that increases their survivability.

Here's the great thing, though. The Nukara rep shields are innately the second best shields in the game, better than the solanae (and only fractionally behind fleet). The Nukara deflector is likewise a better defensive deflector than the Solanae. So he's right. He actually does know what's he's talking about.

Yeah, there's two additional lines missing from the STOwiki version...
Reduces All Energy Damage to Shields by 10%
50% Shield Drain Resistance
...it's listed in the paragraph, but it's not there in the image they've got.
The Delta Alliance Unimatrix Shield Array offers a high shield capacity and enhanced resistance to Polaron Damage. These Shields also benefit from increased resistance to Energy Damage and Shield Drains. These shields offer a much higher maximum capacity compared to those of the Voth Regenerative Shield Array, but have a significantly reduced regeneration rate.
Then there's also this blurb: http://i.imgur.com/dxKMxcL.png :which suggests that it's outgoing hits and not incoming hits that have that 10% chance for the +5% Shield Hardness which can stack 3 times.
None of that's a suggestion by any means...it's just information that if somebody had looked at what was at STOwiki and not what the rep project showed - that they might not know.

You are comparing two pieces to the combined three piece set of the Solanae. Also, you are not considering the three piece set bonuses as well.
I never said that he didn't know what he was talking about. I even agreed that if the person I was originally responding to was after more DPS, then they would be correct.
However, I was focusing on the survivability of the three piece Solanae set, not just one or two pieces. Also, I was comparing it to the Aegis to begin with, which the person I was originally responding to had.
If you look at all of the post in this thread that we were both writing, as well as the post by prierin that I was replying to, you will see that we are covering two different subjects as I mentioned in my last post.
prierin was said that they were okay with their DPS, just not survivability. While the two pieces you mention are good for both DPS, and survivability, the three pieces of the Solanae will allow them to keep the DPS they are okay with, while a the same time adding more survivability than even the Nukara three piece set.
prierin never said that they wanted more DPS, it was more survivability. I mentioned this before.
When I first suggested the Solanae set over the Aegis, woodwhity said, "Considering he is going for dps, such a beginners-set will most likely be a setback. Valdore-console is the way to go as a rom."
He was saying that the instead of upgrading to the Solanae set, all he needed to do was buy the C-Store ship, just for the console, and this would increase his DPS, and survivability. However, as I pointed out, by keeping the consoles like they have, and upgrading to the three piece Solanae set, they can keep the DPS they had, and also increase their survivability.
Also, buying the C-Store ship just to get the Valdore console will not increase their DPS, as woodwhity implied in their first response to what I wrote. Instead, it will slightly improve the shield tanking (still not as good as upgrading to the Solanae set). But, if they have other consoles that help increase their DPS, and they need to remove one of them for the Valdore console, then they will be doing the opposite of what woodwhity was claiming, and losing DPS.
Then, I responded by explaining that I didn't suggest a higher DPS set, because the person I was originally responding to mentioned they liked the DPS they had, but wanted more survivability.
Yes, it is true that the three pieces of the Nukara set, even just two will increase DPS over both the Aegis set. However, to compare the survivability of the Nukara vs the Solanae set, the Solanae will win. It will not offer the DPS, but that was not the problem indicated by the person I was originally responding to.
You said "He actually does know what's he's talking about." Aside from him saying that the Valdore console will increase DPS, and survivability, he has been right about other sets offering higher DPS. I even said that he was right about that, and that if the original person I was responding to asked for higher DPS, and not said their only problem was survivability, then I wold have offered other suggestions.
You are correct that the two pieces of the Nukara set being better than the Solanae in offering better DPS and survivability than the Aegis. However, to say that the two pieces will offer better survivability than the three pieces of the Solanae set is wrong.
I have used all of the space set pieces except for the Delta on my Scimitars, and even used multiple combinations. I know that there are sets out there to increase DPS. But, I also know that the three piece Solanae set is the best for shield tanking.
So, if someone says they are okay with the DPS they are doing, but their problem is survivability, and they are using the Aegis, then they can upgrade to the three pieces of the Solanae set, and keep the DPS they already have, while increasing survivability. And this can be done without paying out anything, just the little bit of time it takes to run the mission.
(As a side note: Also, if they want some good environmental suits for their Boffs for ground missions, they will be able to get three EV suits from the mission at the same time as well for free.)

While true, I tested it before the TachB-Buff, as a means to counter shielddrain in HSE, it was very, very disappointing, even in ISA the good old resilient fleet elite was superior to holding the shields up.
I dunno man... A Particle Gen focused build can do some nice numbers on it. But I'm allergic to stuff valuable build space for a gimmick ability that can be used every 2.5-3 minutes. 3 consoles, many of which are of dubious value to a build, is a very steep price for a long CD gimmick ability.
For a Scimitar, the combination of Solanae Set (3 piece) and Valdore Console is an old school, reliable method. The Valdore Console to grant RNG occasion-based shield heals. The Solanae 3 piece for leeching hull heals as you spam your energy weapon attacks. All this to supplement whatever hull/shield abilities you already have selected to help make your Scimitar tougher, all while you keep doing what your'e doing blowing stuff up around you.

I guess that didnt really change, eh.
But, but, but...the Delta shield gives the ship the appearance of being an old unpainted plastic model with that grey plastic look.
Like I said, it wasn't a suggestion - just information. I didn't even remember I'd slotted the project to look at it until after I was already kicking out 2-3m shield healing in an ISA run; so any effect it did or didn't have, I couldn't say.

Here's the great thing, though. The Nukara rep shields are innately the second best shields in the game, better than the solanae (and only fractionally behind fleet). The Nukara deflector is likewise a better defensive deflector than the Solanae. So he's right. He actually does know what's he's talking about.

Here's the image of what it shows for me in the game: http://i.imgur.com/yJHvHAm.png (that's on a Geneva, as far as the shield mod affecting the capacity number; 1.115 or whatever goofy thing they did for it)
Yeah, there's two additional lines missing from the STOwiki version...
Reduces All Energy Damage to Shields by 10%
50% Shield Drain Resistance
...it's listed in the paragraph, but it's not there in the image they've got.
I guess that didnt really change, eh.
