As the title says, this is an idea regarding the possibility of Retrofits for T5U ships.
Everyone knows that the main features of T6 ships that sets them above T5U ships, even their Fleet variants boils down to their Mastery Traits, and the ability to use Intelligence or Command Bridge officers. What I am proposing here is NOT to make T5U ships on the SAME level as a T6 ship, but to make them more competitive and viable, as well as offer more options to players while at the same time give Cryptic a way to make a little more money.
Essentially what I am suggesting is a way for players to 'Upgrade' a T5U ship to a Retrofit stage, either Intelligence or Command variant. What this would do is change whatever the Lt. Commander Bridge Officer seat for a T5U ship is initially to become either a Lt. Commander Intelligence/Whatever it was, or a Lt. Commander Command/Whatever it was.
This would NOT grant the ships a Mastery Trait mind you, it would simply allow them to have access to a wider selection of Bridge Officer powers and encourage creativity within the player base.
Just how this would work is rather simple. Just as we have Tokens we buy to upgrade a T5 ship to T5U status, players would be able to purchase a Command Token or an Intelligence Token to upgrade a T5U ship to either T5UC or T5UI.
As I said, this would allow players to continue using older ships that they prefer over the still rather limited number of options when it comes to Intelligence or Command ships. This is *especially* true for those of us who are KDF or Romulan players as we have very *very* few options to choose from compared to the Boys in Blue.
So, the KDF and Romulan players would have a lot more options to choose from, Federation players of course would also benefit as well obviously. Older ships would become more viable and flexible, Cryptic would be able to make some good coin, and those who have purchased the T6 ships wouldn't feel slighted as they would still be the only ones with access to Commander level Intelligence or Command Bridge Officer powers.
So, I leave this open to the floor. Though I suspect it's going to get shot full of holes and flamed into oblivion. Still you never know.
"Why all the sales"?
And a merry freaking Christmas to you too, Ebenezer.

Spec seats are the new hotness they use to sell T6 ships.
T5U was to keep the old and busted limping along long enough to want to buy the nifty T6 they saw everyone else using to roflstomp the queues.
That's why I suggested it would only be the Lt. Commander boff slot that gets this, not the Commander boff seat. It gives more of a taste but still not the full deal. You want SS3, you have to get an Int ship.
Personally, outside of PvP, the T6 ships aren't that impressive, and given how most players aren't interested in PvP...well, yeah.
The main point of this though is to give the KDF and Romulan players more options without Cryptic having to make a lot of new ships.

Never gonna happen and the reason for it is that then who would buy the new line of t6 ships modelled after the classic line that became T5U? I mean just look at the new JHSS, it's basically the JHAS w/ a coat of paint and the starship mastery trait. So you think they won't do the same w/ the other ships that went T5U? Of course they will, that's where the money is, not in upgrading the old ships, but making you buy the old ships again, but w/ a new coat of paint and a starship mastery attached. Hence why you won't get your wish never and ever.

Honestly I think the whole deal with the JHSS is that people really aren't buying the T6 ships. The JHAS is sort of a status symbol almost into the realm of being an icon. So they took it, put all the latest and greatest in it and are trying to use it to entice people to buy T6 ships.
This idea would save them the time and offer a quick way to make a large number of ships at the same time. Stats are easier to do as they don't require graphic designs.
I really don't see them making every ship into a T6 as you suggest. It would take too long and a large number of them wouldn't sell much.
I mean really, how many people do you think are chomping at the bit to hop into a T6 Nebula or T6 D'Derix?

I had a similar idea to yours, though a lot simpler. A.K.A: Here's how we shut people up about Intel BoPs.
Upgraded versions of Tier 5 and Fleet Tier 5 vessels, as well as Tier 6 ships with Universal stations as well, could be able to slot Intelligence and\or Command bridge officers in those stations and utilize their unique powers. Only on the Universal stations, though. These ships would not gain Intelligence or Command passive abilities that they don't already have, though.
And yes I already know it'd throw whatever gameplay balance we had out of the window.
Don't even need to read this to know it won't happen. They won't do this for one reason - why let us upgrade an existing ship cheaper when they can make a "T6" version of the same ship that looks slightly different and charge us up to 10 times the price?
They'll only do this AFTER they've sold us T6 versions, and this uograde will make our T5-U better than the T6 one we already bought to replace the T5-U. That's just how they roll, TRIBBLE us with every possible chance.
Wait a minute... I remember people around here saying T5U>T6 and that Intel was TRIBBLE
For the most part, I think it is. Personally I'd love nothing more than something like this idea being put into effect so I can get more use out of my Cruisers on Fed side.
Lt Commander Engineering when you have Commander Engineering? Useless. But Lt Commander Command when you have Commander Engineer? Very useful.
In one fell swoop the entire Galaxy line would become one of the most useful ships in the game.

I'm just bemused by all the old talk on these boards and channels of T5U>T6, Specializations didn't matter at all and were useless. Now everyone wants their free T6 and specializations, to even include specializations on T5/T5U ships.

I'm laughing at the hilarity of it all
I think if given the option, people would rather have a Mastery Trait on a ship than Int/Com boff seating...
That's actually something I would *really* like to see for a poll. If given the choice would you rather every ship have a mastery Trait or Int/Com boff seat.

I still say the best way is to take any ship they have no intention of offering new skins for and offer true T6 versions through the inevitable T6 Fleet ships.
So, you have your FT5-U DSSV, right? It has its BOff layout, nothing fancy, but a servicable ship for a casual player.
Then you'd have the FT6 DSSV, which might have, say, a Lt. Command BOff seat, a slightly different BOFf layout, maybe a different console layout. No time/money wasted on new ship art for a ship that almost certainly wouldn't sell well, but it might still sell some Fleet Modules.
I imagine this treatment could be done to just about half the existing T5 lineup. I doubt they'd make a new Vulcan ship skin, for instance, and certainly wouldn't want to waste art time on a new Star Cruiser skin. Art guys focus on crankiing out stuff for lockboxes and C-Store bundles, money is made from selling more Fleet Modules, players get a choice of their favorite ship skins in vanilla and Spec flavors. Everybody wins.
Honestly I think the whole deal with the JHSS is that people really aren't buying the T6 ships.
T6 ships are everywhere. Intel, so-called 'regular' like the Guardian, and especially the Command. I rarely see a pug without at least 1 C-Store T6 in there, in addition to my own. And T6 ships are parked outside New Romulus and ESD all the time.
So I don't think they're having a problem with T6 sales.
Either way, leave the new gimmick with T6. That's what T6 is designed for - a separate ship level that has all the specialized features. My T5-U ships are doing just fine with the boost they got from the upgrade token.
