Placing waypoints in ESD.

I new to the foundry. Is there a way to place a custom waypoint or interaction on a Cryptic map such as Earth Space Dock?

My mission is going to be about shuttles, and be in the shuttle bay. I would like for the first thing for the player to do is go to the new ESD, and enter the balcony over the shuttle bay and check in, with either a console, a door, a waypoint, or that security officer in there. It would be relavent to the story of the mission.

I thought we would be able to put a custom waypoint(s) on Cryptic maps to have the player go to specific places as part of a story. Is that not possible?

OK, here's how you do it. Drag a "Cryptic Map" onto your storyline. You can then add "Talk to contact" or "interact with object" storyline objectives into the cryptic map. You can specify what these contacts or objects are, and there are quite a few available for ESD.

As for reach markers, no. Not on Cryptic maps.

Why doesn't Cryptic allow custom reach markers on a Cryptic map? I guess it doesn't seem logical to me why that would be a problem. I can understand not being able to place a custom person/contact, or object on a cryptic map, as that would clutter up their maps, but an invisible-to-anyone-else reach marker, or similar custom object interaction shouldn't pose any problem to the game. Is there some point to not having any of those, or is it just a feature they haven't gotten around to yet?

Well I don't know a damn about computer stuff, but Cryptic maps are social zones. I imagine we simply don't have the ability to interfere or modify or alter or add to social zones. Kinda makes sense, really.

There will be a point, all being well, this year when the current ESD is in the foundry editor. When that happens, you can add reach markers anywhere you wish.

I suspect the programming for putting custom waypoint/destinations in it wouldn't interfere with the game or other players. Maybe I am wrong though.

If I may ask, what specific situation are you trying to set up? How does accessing this shuttle bay fit into your story? Perhaps there's another way to approach this.

As a general rule, there will always be Foundry restrictions you'll run into while building a mission. The key is to know how to either build around them or approach them from another angle. Some of the best creativity is born out of limitations. :)

Basically, they would have to save EVERY SINGLE CUSTOM MARKER on the social zone map. Which is in constant use by the players and the map itself would have to update EVERY SINGLE TIME a new one was added for it actually work. When Cryptic adds things like this to their map, they have to bring the server down.

But regardless of that, there are 80,000 Foundry missions. Many set on Earth Spacedock. Even a couple hundred means that the map would have a couple hundred extra assets on the map. And ESD is already one of the highest asset count maps in the game, which is why sometimes it takes a second for the map to refresh and update when you turn around fast enough.

There are a handful of preexisting ones on the map at present, if none of those are going to work for you, wait until we get the updated map into the foundry. If you want it on the social zone, that's not gonna happen simply because that will be a massively unneeded strain on the server.
