I've been playing the game off and on for a few years now...more off than on due to my schedule. I'm fairly casual as I've got two 50s but once I maxed out the story and did a few minor fleet actions I haven't really invested a huge amount of time into the game. I'm still incredibly noobish when it comes to certain areas, and I need some advice.
That said, looking at getting a ship during the 20/15% off sale. I've got a lv 50 Science officer and 50 Engineering officer. Science is currently running an Aventine Multi-Mission Explorer, Engineer has the basic Assault Cruiser.
The Vesta line was new when I last played (shhhh,) and I'd always liked how it looked. I had just finished reading the Destiny series so it seemed like a no brainer, and I felt like I got my money's worth out of the game already to invest into something like it.
My question is now, which tier 6 ship to get and/or should I just upgrade the Aventine? I was looking at something that I could use on both my Captains and something my Engi could get really great use out of since I technically already have a really great sci type ship for my Sci Captain.
I was looking at the Eclipse Intel Cruiser, or the Geneva Command Cruiser. Another option would be to upgrade the Aventine to T5U (assuming this is even possible?) but I may do that regardless of my other purchase.
I don't PVP and I don't have a fleet really (small group of friends with a brand new fleet, no XP.)
From what you're describing you want to do, I think the Presidio cruiser might be a better choice since it would help both of your captains. The ship itself would be a solid upgrade for your engineer, and the ship's trait (All Hands On Deck) would be a big boost for your sci captain by reducing all your sci and captain cooldowns. Two birds, one stone, etc.
And yes you can upgrade your Aventine to T5U, and its still a damn good ship even in the era of T6's.

I hadn't even looked at the Presidio but it looks like it's got a nice mix of consoles too, compared to the others I listed. Could I still use my Aux Cannons off the Aventine with it?
Also, how do Fleet ship upgrading work? I know the new ships don't have Fleet variants yet I know that much, but once you buy a ship is the Fleet version a separate ship or do you bump up the one you have like the T5U?

No, those aux cannons are limited to the Vesta family only. You could use cannons, but with the cruiser's that turn rate you'd have an easier time with beams. And for your sci in particular really I'd just 'borrow' the thing and level it up enough to get the trait, then switch back to your Vesta while keeping the trait on the character. (Just in case you didn't know how Traits worked). For your engie on the other hand, just a new flagship.

Its technically a separate ship. You go to the ship requisitions on ESD and, so long as you have the modules and you're part of a fleet with a suitably ranked shipyard to unlock your desired ship, buy it like you'd pick up a new ship from ranking up. If its a Fleet version of a C-store ship you already own, you get a discount on the number of Fleet Modules required to buy; currently its only 1 module if you already paid zen for the ship, 4-5 modules otherwise. Also Fleet ships are for that character only, compared to C-Store ships that are account unlocks. Also note that the Command battlecruisers are already Fleet quality, coming with 11 console slots and an improved shield modifier out-of-the-box, and so won't need a Fleet upgrade in the future.
I'm going to echo the Presidio; very solid ship that is a fine successor to the Assault Cruiser line.
While the Eclipse is very good, it's also an expensive ship to fully tap into its potential.
As for the Aventine, Upgrading to T5U is a fine choice. The ship is still very good and hasn't really been 'replaced' yet. The Scryer has more potential, but it's a very narrow gap with relative pros and cons.
All this information has been a huge help, thanks to everyone who has replied!
I ended up only doing the tier 5 upgrade to the Aventine I have as I think I'll use it and save up for the next time they have a sale to get more used to the game before I buy in a bit farther.
That said, I have a final question about the Vesta pack. I bought only the Aventine a while back when it came out and I'm kind of kicking myself for not buying the pack. Would it be worth it when ships go on sale again to get the consoles from the other two variants?

You're fine with just the Aventine (My sci still uses a 5U Aventine even though I own the Delta pack; I like it more than the Scryer or Dauntless). The 3-set of consoles are cool to have and entertaining to use, but if you get into serious building they're just too gimmicky and you don't really have the room for them, and the 5U Aventine has the best console layout of the family anyways. Basically you're just missing some customization options and a few for-the-lulz gadgets, but certainly not enough to drop $50 over.
First off, if your Aventine is not yet T5U, upgrade it. Even if you barely play it later, upgrade it. It's one of the best ships in the game, even if tier 5, and deserves to remain competitive for the price of a single token. With it's generous tac consoles and ability to equip lots of tac abilities, it is, in my opinion, one of the best drain boat ships in the game.
As for a new cruiser ... I'm a science captain, and I play the Geneva and love it. It's my favorite ship by far currently. That being said, if you plan on playing the engineer more often, the Presidio may be a better choice. It really depends on whether or not you want all your damage to come from your beams and torps, or if you want some dps to also come from exotic damage.
Upgraded the Aventine and I'm so incredibly happy I did that. Haven't been using my Engineering Captain so I figured I'd hold off on the T6 ships for now (too much fun using my Sci cap.)
Not to be a bother or maybe using the wrong forum, but what would be a good reputation or set to go for? Or should I take this to the academy?
If you want a TAC Cruiser, the Eclipse is the "Final Word" of Fed TAC Cruisers. Nothing else comes remotely close and we don't even have the Fleet version yet. I had a long post about the merits of the Eclipse here.
The TAC Command Cruiser has an otherwise good TAC Cruiser format but the lack of Weapon System Efficiency Cruiser Command is a major detractor in my eyes. The Trait is fabulous but the ship is not worth it.
In the end, the Eclipse itself is superior in practically every possible way but the trait is decent. The TAC Command Cruiser's only saving grace is the All Hands on Deck Trait but nothing else.

Have to echo this. Just came back after a 5 month hiatus and threw together a DBB eclipse using SS3/Faw3/OSS3 and threw up 32k dps just messing around. Love it. Might actually play once or twice a week now lol.
