ESD and Shuttle Bay as maps.

idashlaidashla Member Posts: 87 Arc User
I am new to creating a foundry mission, and had a couple of questions.

1. Do they offer the new ESD (Earth Space Dock) shuttle bay as a possible map to use? I was hoping to create a mission that started in the new shuttlebay. The new shuttlebay at ESD looks pretty cool, so I was hoping we could somehow interact in that space.

(My idea was to create a engineering story that did a bit in the shuttlebay with the shuttle before going on with the mission.)

2. Is it possible to run parts of a mission through the normal new ESD? Even if it was just to go from one side of ESD to a specific door, and then back to custom maps, that might add to the story a bit. Or to go talk to a specific NPC like say the transporter officer.

    1. Not currently, but Tumerboy has been rumored to be working on bringing the new ESD into the Foundry. No promises on when it'll show up though.

    2. Yes, dropping down a Cryptic Social Map onto your storyboard will give you access to a number of predefined objects, NPCs and doors to use.

AFAIK we have the two versions of the old ESD (it was revamped once before) but not the new one. Potential handwave: Tacofangs said somewhere that the two maps are on two different floors of the station (the new ESD is in the mushroom cap while the old is somewhere on the stalk).0

Yes, you can do that. As an example, if you have a KDF toon, one of the KDF spotlights (I forget the name, but it involved a crazy cult called Star of Blood IIRC) takes place in First City, and has you go back to the social map in mid-mission.

Has anyone suggested they open up the ESD shuttlebay area as possible Foundry map??

Basically I want to be able to walk about in the shuttle bay area and interact with the variety of shuttles there. Maybe even place a specific one to work on in a currently vacant hangar space before the toon leaves for a mission. Ideally I would be able to place an older model shuttle to work on (TOS, TNG), but as I am still new, I am not sure that is even possible.

From what's been said recently I doubt you'd want to, couple days ago one of the devs was talking about how low quality the shuttle bay is up close. My advice? Sky castle your own.

The devs should really make a high-def shuttle bay then. It seems to me like it would be a logical place to have a nubmer of missions.

Oh I was one of those who explored the shuttle bay back when it first was added. The area near the balcony you can walk on is pretty good. But the farther you get, the cruddier it is. Many of the props are incomplete, and look horrible when viewed from the back. And the far wall.... it's basically a painting of a room.

Mayns of Balnar Moon is an example of a 'Sky castle' User-created shuttlebay (at the very start of the mission)
That might give you an idea what you can make yourself.

Also you may like the shuttlebay in Delta Volanis: Starchaser. It's modelled after the TNG one.

For a starbase you can easily make it larger.

Yes, I'm working on adding ESD to the Foundry for you guys, as I had said I would do after C47 launched. Unfortunately it's only been in my limited spare time. However, it's progressing. I've got the map mostly prepped, but want to add some objects at the same time, which still need to be done (Turbolift Doors, etc.)

So. . . underway, but no promised launch date. Sorry to be vague.

We do know Taco was working on it but likely his time has been monopolized by this new sector space stuff for season 10. When he put the map in, I think it's likely we'll be able to place spawn points on the other side of that invisible wall. So I think we will "have access" to the shuttle bay, but as others mentioned there are a lot of missing walls and things. You could conceivably try to fill in the missing objects yourself.

    (update: Taco-ninja'd by mere seconds!)
