Ship sale - request for advice

So, Cryptic has launched its latest ship sale, even discounting the new command ships.

I've been sitting on about one ship's worth of Zen since just before DR. I've been eying the command ships since they came out, but didn't spring for it because my experience with the Samsar taught me that higher tier ships aren't necessarily more fun. Now, with the sale, I'm thinking maybe I'll nab one since I already have the Zen just sitting there.

But I'm unsure. It seems like Cryptic tends to launch sales just before something new comes out. If that's so, they could turn out something I like even better then the command ships, only I'll have spent my Zen already.

Currently, I fly a T5-U Regent, which is fully adequate for most things I take on... though the story missions shatter it like an egg at times. But overall, it strikes a balance between power and vulnerability that makes it fun to fly. I hardly ever do STFs, so I'm not that concerned with DPS beyond the minimum level to keep be alive.

What do the more experienced players recommend? Get a command ship since I already spent the money, or keep sitting on my Zen and wait for something stupendous?

    How I buy ships:

I see a ship I find good looking, I buy it. I don't care if it is a Cruiser or Escort or something in-between.
T6 ships don't do anything more special than T5 ones. Only a bit of better stats.
In my shipyard, I have ships like the Fleet Research Vessel (the ship with the big ball for a saucer) or the Fleet Aquarius.
I found them visually sexy, so I bought Fleet Ship Modules and Upgrade Tokens on sale, and let the hell loose.

And when there is a new ship that I want to have, I wait for one or two ship sales, where I get it for about -20%.

And why do I wait? Because I have time and I don't need everything as soon as possible.

Ships are just a husk, it depends what gear you put in it and how good you play.

But usually, I buy Escorts and Sci Ships more often than Cruisers because I don't like slow turning ships.

The DR content is hard stuff. Even experienced players in T6 ships often struggle to get along. Lot of players use the Phantom Escort, and then the Eclipse Cruiser for their ship traits.

I will buy the Command Ships only in their 3 pack the next time on sale, I was a little bit surprised this time.

The beauty of ship sales is that they occur more than once every year so it is not like you have immediately jump on this one. It is always a good idea to do some research before making a commitment. The following is a 1 hour review of the command cruiser compared to the intel ships. I have not watched the review since I am not interested in any command cruiser at this point in time so I cannot say how good or bad the video is.

Here is a review for the Presidio Tactical Command Battlecruiser that was made by hrci2907 who was gracious enough to do a 50 miilion EC giveaway contest a couple of weeks ago.

Pull the trigger if you end up liking any or all of the Command Cruisers. However, if you are unsure and you find that your current is still adequate for your needs, then hold off on your purchase. At worse you will not like the ship you bought and you feel that you have wasted you Zen on it. At best, you missed your opportunity to take advantage of the sale now, but you can take comfort in the fact that there will be another sale later on in the year and hopefully by then you will have done more research to make a better informed decision.

I am sure there will be more T6 starships. Look at how many T5 ships that can be purchased from the C-Store.
