Omega tech upgrades explained

I just want to be absolutely clear about the Omega tech upgrades that can be gained from getting the Omega particles and refining them down to shards, fragments, etc: what do they do? Are they primarily used for boosting existing items, or aiding in research? Can they be used to, say, help bump a current crafting skill rating up? (ie get to a 16 rating in Science from 15).

I just want to know, before I decide to use or sell my last few shards.

they are the super versions of upgrade kits to increase rarity and rank of any item. It does double the rarity chance and double the amount of tech point of the experimental upgrade kit but uses ZERO dilithium to do so.

Omega Tech Upgrades acts like a double strength Superior Tech Upgrade which provides double the tech points and doubles the percentage chance of a quality upgrade if I am not mistaken. They can be used on any item that is upgradeable; kits are not upgradeable because of the way the were coded when they were released according one of the Dev posts. And they require absolutely no dilithium to use.

If you want to make any Omega Tech Upgrades, then there is not much time left to grind all the mats that you need 'cuz it is all coming to an end on March 2nd @ 10am PST / 1pm EST.

I've used a pair of Omega upgrades (twice now) to take a Fleet Neutronium (Turn) console from Mk XI (UR) to Mk XIII (Epic), for free! The Omegas seem to have extra pull with the RNG when it comes to rarity upgrades... :)
Expendables Fleet: Andrew - Bajoran Fed Engineer Ken'taura - Rom/Fed Scientist Gwyllim - Human Fed Delta Tac
Savik - Vulcan Fed Temporal Sci
    Dahar Masters Fleet: Alphal'Fa - Alien KDF Engineer Qun'pau - Rom/KDF Engineer D'nesh - Orion KDF Scientist Ghen'khan - Liberated KDF Tac

Not for free. You spend some time to gather the materials or bought them for EC and a used a crafting slot.

Anyway, do not sell them now, wait for the event to end and price go up a bit and sell then or use them yourself.

Definitely NOT free. A massive grind-fest and the buggy-TRIBBLE code has killed any and all gameplay from being viable since the anniversary event started.

The end result is nice... but you still need 10-20 of them to upgrade a set piece one mark level sometimes. They're not worth the required effort or investment. You can sink hundreds of millions of ECs into them when simply buying 2 superior experimental tech upgrades would do the same thing as one of these omega upgrades at a fraction of the cost.

Be kinda hard to sell Omega tech upgrades since they are bound to account.

all of the materials are not bound so you can sell the particles.
