Combat is fun in this game, especially in ships deched out in deathrays. But there's not a lot of non-combat fun things to do. I thought up some ideas and I'd like to run them up the flagpole to see if anyone salutes them.
1. Fishing. I'd like to be able to fish in the adventure zones and maybe in some story missions. Different planets would have different fish. The goal would be to acquire trophies, vanity pets like frogs or crabs, and maybe accolades. Maybe some duty officers could be given abilities to help with fishing.
2. Stats to clothes. I think it would be nice to have a use to the various costumes other than just looking spiffy. Like the miner clothes from the fleet mine could give 10% more dil when mining when the full set is equipped. Or the ferengi clothes from the lobi store giving you better odds at dabo. Or maybe some would have both boosts and penalties at the same time, like a female orion's ho outfit augmenting the seduce ability but giving a penalty to cold resist.
3. Running fleet holdings like a business. My fleet owns a fleet mine. I see freighters coming and going while outside and miner employees mining on the roid itself. Yet the fleet doesn't get ec/latinum from the freighters buying the dil, or a cut of the dil that the miners produce. Furthermore, a starbase would generate income from its anemities, like the bar. There's freighters moving around outside the base too. Might be nice to have private holdings for the player to personally own too.
4. Actually doing your character's job. I'm thinking minigames sorta. Like a science toon could have one where he treats a patient in sickbay, or analyzes samples of some kind. Engineers could fix a broken part in his ship or on a station, and tacs could maintain weapons or do training of some kind. I'm thinking these minigames could give temporary buffs.

What do y'all think?
You know you could always take up the Foundry and make your own missions right? While you are limited to the mechanics of the game, you could easily make a mission without any combat, using diverging dialog trees and filled to the brim with fetch and reading aspects.
It would take a long time to make, but it is doable, I've seen a few over the years.
"Why all the sales"?
And a merry freaking Christmas to you too, Ebenezer.

1: Why would a fishing simulator be part of a science fiction game? Cant you just close STO and fire up Reel Fishing v2015 or something?
2: Good idea.. For what purpose, besides the obvious (Lobi, crafting, winter run or whatever)
3: And pay the workers on the base/mine/embassy salaries, watch the stations deteriorate if you dont get the needed supplies in.. You know.. Make it more realistic.
4: Your characters job isnt being a Chief Engineer or Science Officer or whatever.. Youre the captain, you delegate the job to your subordinates (ie: DOFF missions)

That's true, which is why we should have a "Captain's Log" minigame. Every time you log in the first thing you have to do is write up at least one paragraph detailing your latest adventures and send it off to Starfleet. People will love it!
There was a whole DS9 episode set around a baseball game... maybe we should have that? (Please don't... I'm British and rounders only gets played by 5 year old in school! haha)

I'm gonna make good EC off that but i've paid in sanity.
