Told my wife what a great time I'm having playing Foundry, pointing out that a lot of missions surpass the televised and movie versions sometimes in terms of prime storytelling. She then asked me why I'm not doing it too.
Well, setting aside for the moment that she is working for her degree while I raise our 3-year-old, I told her I didn't know much, if anything, about the Foundry mechanics. I don't know if I even qualify as a F2P'er.
Is there a page where all these rudimentary questions are answered? I still have my tabletop gamemastering notebook from when I ran my own Trek campaigns for friends. Hoping maybe one or two of those plots I wrote might translate to STO.
Capt. Dennis and Snowball sure raise that bar intimidatingly high, though.
If you pop onto youtube and run a search for Kirkfat's tutorials (I think Zorbane has a playlist on his channel).
That basically taught me how to do stuffs.
And of course, don't be afraid to ask questions as you run into them. Newcomers are always welcome here.
To the OP - excuse the corniness - But they're ain't nothing to it but to do it.
The UGC site posted might have some FAQ stuff from different authors if I recall but thegreendragoon's post is where it's at. I started somewhat in the same place as you. I played a Foundry, fell in love and wanted to design my own. I spent a good month or two just playing around - building maps, learning the mechanics, asking questions and playing others missions. I'm by no means a known author here but my first mission was looked on very highly by all who played...most of that I attribute to the foundry community all willing to help.
The Foundry forums are a little cleaner than the rest of the forums and you should be able to find a lot of your questions answered there. But I suggest to just dive into the pool and starting playing around then post your question when you get stuck. Definitely start out at the UGC site, there are some good youtube tutorials that will get you started.

But I think a FAQ is something we don't currently have and might be worth setting up. We should start collecting questions.
I guess my big question would be.....do I have to have a paid STO subscription?
No you do not, but you need to buy your first 4 mission slots for 10000 dilithium (not much)
Here's the playlist that johnnysnowball was talking about: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEMR5t3SpDsZNfBMB-MjV66Ybd8Ws_39Q
The first episode tells you how to get started, including how to get your first 4 slots.

Thank you for the encouragement, sir.
