So my Gorn Tac KDF has been flying the Plesh Brek for a while, but I'm looking for a bit of a change in scenery. While I am slowly saving up Zen for that future day when a T6 BoP is released, I've been looking over the lockbox ships and one in particular caught my eye; the Hirogen Hunter Heavy Escort. Just looking at it, it appears to me to have an awesome BOff layout, a good Console layout (5 Tac/4 Eng/2 Sci upgraded), and on top of that I like the looks of it and it makes sense from an in-game perspective that my char could have one of these ships. However, it is also one of the cheapest lockbox ships out there, which makes me leery of buying it. Is there something I'm missing, something that makes it inferior to other escorts? What are everyone's thoughts on the ship: is it good, is it worth it? If so, I'm looking for advice on a non-FAW build for it. Thanks all in advance.
Its cheap because it was quickly surpassed. Its not bad at all, quite a tough little ship with good turning, but for lockbox escorts it's surpassed by the Undine, Xindi, Hazari, and Vaadwaur ships, and in the C-Store even the Mat'ha gives the the Hirogen a run for its money while costing ultimately less (60 million EC buys a lot of contraband). Nothing bad about the Hirogen at all, just that if spending that kind of money people generally want The Best, and STO's power creep has just left the Hunter behind.

the hunter is a monster of a ship. i can fly any lockbox ship i want, but i always choose the hunter. in case you missed what i posted yesterday about this little gem.
there is nothing inferior about the hunter, many just dont like the way it looks. i run my main hunter as an a2d/a2b build and carry the majority of pug queues i join. its the best bang for your buck ship in sto by a huge margin.
Alright, thanks both of you for the input. As I was looking through the exchange I saw a couple other ships I wanted opinions on: the Krenn Temporal Destroyer and the Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer. What do y'all think of those two ships?

The Temporal Destroyer is still a good T5U Escort. There's a few things that still shine about it:
- Very flexible BOFF layout
- If you have the Temporal Science Vessel's Tipler Cylinder Console, that's pretty nifty to use in an emergency.
The extensive Universals really is the main thing that shines on the TempDD. Outside that, there's nothing left about the ship that makes me say, "Wow!" anymore, not with Power Creep marching on. Long ago this was one of the top end Escorts. Not so anymore.
As for the Tal Shiar Adapted DD, I never owned one but I remember being tempted to get it when it first released. The closest thing similar to it in handling and style is the Breen Chel Gret. It a slow turning Escort but has a nice Science slant to it. It also has Sensor Analysis which is a unique feature among Escorts. Also, as I recall from friends having this ship and talking about it when it was released, the Shrapnel Torpedo was absolutely underwhelming.

The Krenn is still a monster of I ship and it looks really good, I have one and love it. In fact, I'm currently using it on my main again for the past couple of days.
Alright, so my choice is pretty much between the Temporal Destroyer and the Hirogen Hunter. Between the two which would y'all suggest. I know I could get the Xindi-scort, but eh, I want something a bit more interesting.
The Hirogen is a better pure Escort/Destroyer. The turn rate is in the upper end of Escorts (17 base turn vs 15 of TempDD). It handles very smoothly. It's a tougher ship and a good example of high-end "Destroyer" style Escorts. I would pick the Hirogen. It's also dirt cheap in terms of fancy ships. The only hit against it is that the way it looks. Hirogen ships even on their release were an extremely rare thing to see. I think their appearance set them back for many. If appearance is important to you, then think twice on the Hirogen Hunter.
If you want the flexibility, the TempDD is the ticket. But outside that, there's not much else about it. Not sure how much EC it goes for in the Exchange these days.

I have the Fed Version of the temporal destroyer and I love it.

Ok, I think that settles it. I actually like the way the Hirogen ships look, so I'll probably go with it. The Destroyer runs at about 89 mil EC in comparison with the Hirogen's 62 mil.
