I wanted to post up and share a little project my fleet mates and I have been working on; its a semi-detailed STO astrometrics database.
I say 'semi-detailed' because were still working on fleshing everything out but as it stands today the database can be very useful to new players and old ones looking to catch up on some things that have changed.
Its pretty easy to use, the key code at the top right of the page will let you know what your looking at and if you need more detailed info, click on the system links provided to warp you over to the sto gamepedia site.
You don't need a fleet account in order to view this page; its for everyone to use/enjoy.
Also, feel free to post any feedback you have about the database. As I said were still working on getting more detail in there but if theres anything big that we may have missed please let us know.
As a map nut and geographer by trade, I had to respond to this.
First things first: nice maps! I tend to have the systems memorized, but this will certainly be useful to new players looking for the more obscure things like patrol missions.
Some things you could consider adding:
The "roaming" contacts, like the freighter daily near Zibal, the Deferi taskforce that's part of the 3-for-1 daily and the Breen ship for the Rescue Deferi daily.
Differentiating between the patrol missions which are combat and which are diplomatic with different icons.
Differentiating between social hubs per faction (including shared) with different icons.
Portals to neighbouring sector blocks and/or Transwarp and Iconian gates.
A galaxy-overview map linking to the sector blocks.
Of course we do have the map overhaul on the horizon for the next season, so best of luck with that.
@tiriusavaro
Thanks for sending some feedback our way and I appreciate your kind words about our astrometics maps.
I definitely like the idea of showing the difference between 'alliance' social hubs and faction specific ones; also putting in some type of graphic for the roaming contacts seems like a given and should be done.
The sector map re-vamp is the reason I don't have these maps in any particular order just yet and why I don't have a large detailed map that people can download. After the sector re-vamp however, that will be coming as well.
Thanks again for your inputs, I defiantly appreciate them.
I'm torn. This is nice work, and would definitely be handy to new players. And yet I'm afraid I'm about to destroy much of your effort with the Sector Space revamp that's coming. . . Sorry about that.
On the other hand, this is good as a record of what was. Though I expect you would be able to salvage much of your work in an updated format for the new Sector Space, if you are so inclined.

So. . . Yay! Sorry.
So, along with the 'walls coming down' actual sector names and current system locales will be changing/moving around as well?
Interesting if that's indeed the case.

Seriously though, nice work on the map. But I am looking forward to the new map so we don't need to jump through so many different maps just to get to one system.
(Edit: By the way, anyone know when season 10 is coming? I am looking forward to a new rep system to give me something to do).

One of the devs said as much when it was first announced the walls were coming down, they're going to try and make it closer to soft canon ... honostly they had to change it a little anyway with the odd positioning of defera (i know it was necessary to let klinks in, but it still doesn't make logical sense how its setup)

Saying the maps we created is nice work comes as high praise from you, I really appreciate that.
And please feel free to destroy away; I committed to doing this project prior to the announcement about the sector map re-vamp and wanted to see it completed before you guys changed them out.
Working on this database helped tie my team into STO even more so were already looking forward to re-vamping our own stuff after the sector walls come down...and who knows after everything changes people might need something to help show them around.

Well, the map was always inline with Soft Canon Star Charts since launch, save for a couple star Systems like Iconia.

There are a few other discrepancies here and there. I once tried to create an overlay of the STO map and the Star Charts map, and if I recall that process then Tau Dewa is actually a block of 4 sectors wide squeezed into 3. I also recall Memory Alpha being originally one block further to the left than STO put it, and there are likely other discrepancies as well, but on the whole the STO map is quite faithful to its souce.
As for the effects of the sector wall removal, it's logical to assume that systems/nebulae from 2 adjacent blocks that would end up too close together afterwards would be moved a bit further apart. I also seem to recall it being mentioned that the new "quadrant maps" would be made rectangular, so that would allow for some new things to be added along the edges where we don't have sectors at present.
Another thing to note is that the successor to Star Charts, Stellar Cartography, rearranged some things to make room for locations from Enterprise, including adding Xindi space. I've not looked into that much yet STO-wise, but it's going on the to-do list. (And yes, I am excited for this. Is it showing? )
Hmm.... I did a quick look over and thought of a few things.
1: there is an Eirhess patrol.
2: some of the system names are chopped off and unreadable
3: it'd be an improvement if it had a method of identifying which factions the missions are for.
The system names being chopped off are an unfortunate by-product of the design we went for with each map....but that can be easily corrected after we dive back in after the sector map updates.
And your suggestion about changing the missions to be faction specific is definitely something I will be adding in future versions. Thanks!
I'm honestly very excited about seeing the final sector map reveal, I'm hoping that its a little more in-line with established canon astrometric map. Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer before the sector walls come down.

Iconia should be "east" of Dewa.
