Bad news at SOE/Daybreak

My condolences to Dave Georgeson, formerly of SOE.

Some may know that SOE was recently bought out, and today Dave, among others was laid off. Dave had a big contribution to my early MMO years and my hopes for EQN have dimmed with the loss of him guiding the vision of the game forward.

God damnit, I knew my Spidey Senses were tingling more than usual when the takeover was announced. :(

That's unfortunate. I'm sure given his experience and portfolio he should have little issue getting work elsewhere in the area.

with SOE in effect gone, i wonder where that leaves a number of the mmo projects and current games like planetside 2 in all of this. they may have to announce their plans fairly soon so the playerbase to these games dont start asking what is going on. this also means that columus north will have to make a few choices in what direction they will take for their newest chaotic acquisition. wonder if one of those goals would be better customer service?:P

... ahh who am i kidding?!! customer service in the mmo industry is a myth.

I understand acquisition and the need to clean house to make a profit, but removing the guy whose interactions with the public fuel your next big thing, and quite possibly the next big step in MMOs...that's just insane. That'd be like KFC getting rid of Colonel Sanders. With such cuts, I'm worried for EQN, whose portfolio of changes to the MMO concept I've been following with great interest.

I wonder if these new top dogs are related to the CEO who took over the company where I founded my IT career. The first month, he literally just pointed fingers and announced that person was gone. The bonehead wiped out the entire marketing department for the billion dollar company, and a month later said "oops", then had to rebuild a marketing department from scratch. It is a wonder the company survived him.

    mmm.. indeed.

frankly, dont know what an investment group wants with a computer games group for. its not the first time an investment group has done such a thing, but something so alive like mmo's.. and then killing off new projects on their way up. all creibility goes into the toilet and their acquistion isnt worth a paper weight to the value they bought it for.

was thinking if they split the games up by selling the various games off to other interested parties and that leaves the games group itself and a whole load of money after all that other stuff? perhaps too simple thinking, but it is a passing thought as well.

    Did not know this. Sucks.

I wish him and the others the best in their next adventure.

    Holy TRIBBLE.

There are a lot of familiar names there that have been around, seemingly, forever.
