Trading of Boffs will be no longer allowed?

The latest patch on Tribble has the BOFF - > PADD functionality that Geko talked about (ie the replacement for BOFF trainable skills such as Beam Overload 3, Tractor Beam Repulsors 3 etc).

This is a great addition and is much needed to allow us to train the full range of abilities in the similar fashion to that which we had prior to the new system.

However, the patch notes also contain a sinister twist - that boffs within your roster will no longer be tradable. In the past we have been able to do this (with certain boffs) and desirable boffs have included Fed diplomacy boffs (either Nausiciaans for the Pirate trait or Orion ladies for, well, bikinis...), Veteran boffs (for their unique traits) and to a lesser extend KDF Maraudering boffs (their traits aren't as good, but may still be desired for RP reasons).

I don't see why this functionality is being removed. People may still want to get these boffs and restricting access from this point is unfair on players that do not already have full rosters of pirates or a full orion girl crew. I cannot think of an exploit that this is trying to prevent, so I ask politely for a future patch to reenable us to do this.

thanks for reading.

Yea this is another nerf to game comfort no doubt but some not many seem to mind according to this thread:

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1373891

Since we had a head start warning me and my friends used the time yesterday to bring the boffs in our toon gangs in order. All romulans, pirates and humans are at their stations on my toons now.

Nevertheless thx for putting emphasis on it OP. This nice feature will be lost with next patch. Since I don’t intend to do more toons in this game I’m out of trouble here. Hope the rest can use his/her remaining time to be as well.

Either small or big, not a week without a nerf Cryptic eh? I wonder how long it will take you guys to remove fun entirely.

    This has been confirmed:

    • Players can still sell, trade, and mail uncommissioned Bridge Officers unless they are bound.
    • Commissioned Bridge Officers will no longer be tradable.

As far as the manuals "bound" restrictions, bound manuals will be bound to the character. So just like BOffs that were bound to one alt, the manuals they produce will be the same.

If you are unsure of what type of manual the BOff will produce, make sure to check out the boff description. It will tell you what type of manual you will get from harvesting it.

There have been other answers here in the thread, and some great responses from players that have already experienced the new system on Tribble, so make sure to check out previous replies for any of the answers I did not post here.

If you have more, let me know!

    ~CaptainSmirk

Looks like only commissioned boffs will be bound. I'm not too thrilled on the change but at least we can still sell and aquire unused boffs on the exchange.

I'm disappointed about that change, too.
True it's not NEEDED any more, that function was included early in the game to help...for example... Get a sci character to have rapid fire III which is done through the (admidatly better) manual system... But keeping it doesn't hurt anyone. I frequently used it to shift boffs arround my characters that I didn't need but wanted to keep arround and stuff like that....

Can uncomissioned diplomatic/marauding boff candidates be manually traded between players?

So to all the people saying well this isn't too bad you can still trade uncommissioned boffs - you cannot.

The new BOFF UI changed how the stations tab displays your BOFF candidates (rather than being in a list down the right hand side they are now in a hidden window - you have to hit the SHOW button to be able to see them).

The kicker is this. You cannot trade from that window.
I just purchased a Fed Nausiciaan off a player who had completed T4 diplo but not claimed their reward. Their roster was full so upon claiming the boff it was moved to his candidate roster.

He could NOT trade it with me as it was locked in the candidate screen. He had to delete a commissioned boff, commission the nausician and trade it to me from there (which will not be possible in a few hrs).

So yes, thei is a BIG change/nerf at being able to obtain particular traits on particular characters.

Yes I think so, on my work yesterday I got a pirate with my romii toon for tier 4 diplo which she does not need ad gave to a fed.

This tier 5 diplo boff needed not to be commissioned upon taking him so future trades should still work here.

KK, I stay tuned for season 10 where we get Tier 6 fleetholdings on the one hand and loose 500, dil granting doff assignments after the sector wall come down on the other. gaaaaaa^^

Yes depending what those doffs mean for some this is a big nerf.

It's really quite simple. They want you to use the new boff training system for every boff to train them & use your dil thus making you spend money.
In case you haven't noticed (don't know how you couldn't), they are monetizing everything to make us spend real money. It does no good to complain about it. Just the way it is.

i dont think it is nerf or removing soem stuff, but more like fixing overloking. selling veteran boffs to non-veterans was against , well, reson to become veteran. if anone have **** boats, well let him play kdf, not fed (and if this help to move more palyers to kdf from fed big HURRAY as cryptic finaly make notice that kdf exist and make some new stuff for them too, not only fed orinted).
and for trading of commision boffs - WHAT ? you were practicaly selling YOUR OWN CREW FOR PROFIT = SLAVERY - so i think it is totaly ok, taht you can no longer do it, you dont like your crew ? dismis him. want him to transfer(sell) to another ship (player) ? well, dont accept him to crew, and keep him "on probing".
