Bridge Officer Candidates Can Be Converted to Training Manuals

pwecaptainsmirkpwecaptainsmirk Member Posts: 1,167 Arc User
Hailing all Captains!

We would like to share information with you about an upcoming change to our Bridge Officer & Training System that will be going live this Thursday, February 12th, 2015, after our weekly maintenance. This addition is designed to complement and enhance our new training system, and we are excited to premiere this change now.

This change will allow you to create Training Manuals from your Bridge Officers candidates, which will result in either bound, or unbound manuals depending on the BOff used to create them. You can use these manuals for your own crews, and/or to trade or sell on the exchange. See the breakdown below for details on the change, and what it means for your crew.

• Bridge Officers Candidates can be utilized to create a Training Manual containing one power, which you can use to train another one of your BOffs.
• The creation of this training manual will consume the BOff Candidate, similar to the classic system of “training up” one of your existing crew members.
• The BOff candidate will specify which type of the following training manuals can be created from it
• Unbound Manuals – These training manuals can be traded, or sold at will.
• Bound Manuals – These training manuals cannot be traded or sold.

PLEASE NOTE: Once this system goes live, you will NO LONGER BE ABLE TO TRADE ANY BRIDGE OFFICERS.

There are no plans to include a charge for creating these manuals from existing Bridge Officer Candidates.

We hope this helps to explain the system’s updated way to keep certain powers available.

Thank you, and please reply here with any questions or concerns you have about this system.

This being the case, how about some of our Bridge Officers (such as those rewarded to us on Tier #4 Diplomacy/Marauding) become unbound, thus allowing us to sell that earned item on the Exchange?

Question: Will un-commissioned bridge officers still be able to be sold on the exchange?

so basically the supply on the exchange will now become finite...will there be a method then beyond leveling and doffing to get your hands on VR bridge officers?

I'm guessing PO3 will either be bound of sold for ridiculous amounts of EC.

When you max the CXP on doff assigment categories, you get assignments that reward Boffs. The whole "not being able to trade bridge officers" think sucks, but it is what it is. Those manual prices for rare tier 3 abilites are going to sell for a premium.

Overall, great job on the boff training revamp, minus a couple bugs. You all even got the rare ability thing handled much faster than I expected.

That's my nice post of the day, off to troll elsewhere.

    Forgot to mention:

Get your hands on those rare boffs with useful space traits now before they're gone forever unless you are hopeful they finally fix the limited selection of boffs with useful space traits problem.

I'm eager to hear the answer to this question.

Provided un-commissioned BOFFs can still be bought and sold on the exchange, I think this will be an excellent change.

Also, what charges will be associated with converting BOFFs to Manuals. I'd find it remarkable if they didn't extract some sort of payment, as with every other newly introduced feature.

Question; Does this apply to all Boffs, or are some exempt? Example; You can get TS3 from the Jem'Hadar Boff - can I mulch him down into a TS3 training manual?

Also, are bound manuals Character bound or account bound?

Yes, uncommissioned BOffs are still tradable with the exception of those that were already bound on pickup such as the Breen, Reman, and Jem'Hadar Bridge Officers.

EDIT: An excerpt from last night's Tribble patch notes:

Players can still sell, trade, and mail uncommissioned Bridge Officers unless they are bound

why it was ever changed in the first place is beyond me,it was supposed to make things easier but has instead made it twice as hard for new players to understand.

    good job.

I asked this in the Tribble notes, but I'll post again here since this seems to be the official thread.

Just had a thought, will all officers now show their abilities before you assign them to your crew? There are powers such as scatter volley III which are only obtainable through BOFFs to train, but since non 'special' BOFFs (by special I mean Jem'Hadar, Breen, etc) no longer have powers until you assign them to your crew how are we supposed to get these?

Whoa whoa whoa Smirk, better edit "commissioned" into that soon or we're going to have another forum fire on our hands. :P

Only tooltips for candidates you had before the training change went live exhibit that. They still have abilities, though, and you can view them when you click the option to create a manual. New candidates correctly show their abilities in their tooltips.

It's annoying and I hope they can do some sort of fix for the existing ones, but it should go away as more post-revamp boffs are introduced to the economy. Eventually there just won't be many of the old ones left, already noticed they're disappearing from the exchange.

Yeah, all newly received Boffs show their abilities.

Other than that, I'm kinda surprised how fast you seem to have managed this problem of rare Boff-only abilities.

And yes, Smirk, better make the warning more specific. But still great you are warning players.

How about for your next update to the training system you allow our Captains to make bound TM's for free to be able to train their respective career BOff's? This would be similar to how it was before.

It was made easier. Easier for Cryptic to make money that is. The change wasn't about improving the system, it was about monetizing it.

If by "new players" you mean "old players who are set in their ways and hate learning anything new," then you're correct.

For everyone else the new system is 10x easier, just buy the manual and click the button in the boff's skill tab. No more retraining your boffs every time you want to try a new build. No more thinking if you need to train a skill yourself or find a boff candidate that has it. No more trading boffs to strangers asking them to train them (and hoping they won't steal them). And once this boff candidate conversion goes live, no more manually searching every boff on the exchange to find one with the skill you want.

good riddance. never again will anyone need to search for the 1 ability they need among the tens of thousands of useless boffs so many felt the need to dump on the exchange.

Ah ok, I had noticed some on the exchange had info and some did not. I guess that explains that. Still quite pain in the backside, I'd much prefer if some of these powers were transferred to Captain's training R+D style to make life easier instead of having to sift through the exchange for hours.

Sadly not. As I mentioned, some powers still require BOFFs which aren't from mission rewards to train.

and when those boffs drop from all the usual places, those powers are now turned into pads that can be easily searched. you put the pad on the exchange now, not the boff.

Afaik, you still can put Boff candidates on the exchange, as well as trade them. The 'No more trading Boffs' should only apply to Boffs that joined your crew, as per the latest Tribble patchnotes.

Thus if you get a good Boff candidate with say 2 Tier 3 abilities, you better put him on the exchange than losing one turning him into a manual.

    Main Concerns

    1. Loss of ability to trade Marauding and Diplomacy Boffs.
    2. Consumption of the Very Rare Boff i.e. (Photonic) to create the manual.
    3. Unavailability of short supplied and non existent skills. i.e.: PO3,A2B3,AtID3,DPA3

    Suggestions

    1. Add Master Trainer to Captains Table.
    2. Add Master Trainer Padd to C-store good for one of any trainable skill.
    3. Add all trained skills of current roster to the Officer Training R&D school

I would like to point out this is a disadvantage for players who like to run themed crews. For example I have:

    - An all Female Klingon Crew
    - A Full Romulan Crew
    - An All Saurian Crew
    - A Telepathic Mixed crew (all members have the Telepathic Trait)

I want to make all Andorian, Caitian, and Reman Crews in the future. This makes it a bit harder to accomplish, unless I'm missing something.

Working on some answers for everyone. Just need to wait until I hear back from the team for confirmation.

Same thing, I gotta wait for confirmation. I know it is in the patch notes, but I still have to obey the chain of command and wait for confirmation.
