I found myself using them a lot more than I used to during the last mirror event. It's annoying to not be able to tell which orange energy beam is yours and which is an enemy's.
I have to say...I love the sound effects for those phasers and have repeated the mission necassary to outfit my entire ship with them. It's being able to do stuff like that and that they are even available that make the game so much fun. Evene the officers on that ship use the bluse retro phaser rifles. I like coming up with'themes' for my ships and crews.
they may level with you... but the dmg is less than a comparable item... seems they always use the odd number of mk.
say your level 11 and you have a mk 4 green array... the blue array has less dps. this is checking while your in planetary orbit.
Who cares about DPS when you're below Lv50? You can curbstomp this game with odd-Mk common quality gear.
The TOS phasers from the T1 Connie are more than enough for leveling until you actually get serious at endgame (Lv50+). You don't have to worry about buying/crafting/acquiring new phasers. Just slap them on the next ship. It's not worth getting extravagant since you're leveling to 50 quickly (50 onwards of course is a different story). As long as your weapons are in comparative Mk to your current leveling tier, you're good to go. The rest of your ship's equipment can be utter TRIBBLE, but as long as the weapons are in decent Mk, you're fine.
Sounds like I should resurrect my Gal-X with a full loadout of Connie-phasers... :P
Then BFaW liberally - though that short circuits the sound, as you get lots of "initiations" and less piercing whine effect...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Agreed, and with the curent Exchange prices the Retrofits are the cheapest alternative. But the DPS is really not as good as it could be.I had Green Mk IIs (ACC) on my Connie as Lt. Cdr and the Retrofits, even though they were blue, just had one DPS more. So they are lowest Mk III or even lower considering that they were rare but had just 1 DPS more than green Mk II uncommons. If i had to guess i´d say at Lvl 11 they are more like rare Mk IIs than Mk III. They should be better
Also the TOS and Bajoran Ground weapons that level with you, the Bajorans are rare but they had 10DPS less that a common Mk IV at Lvl 11

I agree, the TOS phasers should do as much damage as a same level Green. This must have recently changed. Has anyone tried putting them as upgrade, but not upgrading it? I wonder if they do more damage at that point and the. Every promotion just rinse lather repeat.

They're treated the same as all other auto-leveling weapons. Below the level that you can use Mk XII gear, no upgrade option comes up with the C-Store TOS Phasers from the Connie. When you can use Mk XII gear and simply preview it, it turns them to Mk XII automatically and with better performance since auto-leveling stuff tops off at roughly Mk X-ish. Cryptic also seems to have tweaked them since they are no longer Fore and Aft Retrofit Phasers and can be placed freely fwd/aft.
short answer: Yes
long answer: it lets your head explode
Don't get me wrong that sound was fine in the series, when they fired it once or twice.
But hearing that sound continously really makes you get a headarche.
It's similar like that annoying "Starship Trait: Battle Ready" sound effect, man i really hate that little, sneaky, annoying sound.
zip zip zip all the time....:mad::mad:

But are the upgraded blues comparable in damage to the same mark/quality? Some are saying that upgraded ones are still low.
Has anyone else noticed a bug with the retrofit phasers? I just recently acquired the Constitution and I noticed that when I equip them on the ground they don't show the proper damage. It shows a damage of like 1.7 dps.
It's not a big deal, when I beam up to the ship and check they show the full damage. Just something I noticed.

Long standing and known bug. I do not think they even have it on the list of things to fix.

They're awesome. I love them and the TOS ground phasers Type 1, 2, or 3.
We need TOS communicators and tricorders for the full effect.

The Mk XII Retro Phasers are exactly the same stats as the Mk XII Regular Phasers of the same color and abilities. It is only "Sub-Par" before the lvl 50 free upgrade.

There's also no sanity or reason behind most STO's game mechanics, so the "space sound" is the least of our problems.;)
Yes, but we're playing "Star Trek Online" not "Firefly Online". There was sound on Star Trek during the space battles, so there is in the game.

I've found that Cardassian modeled "Aliens" can use the Bajoran phaser in good faith, as they look similar to Cardie weapons.
p.s. Perhaps with the next faction, the Phased Disruptor family will be completed.
Tal'Shiar/Reman Resistance/Romulan Nemesis uniform, pls.
