Insane GTN Prices

zaynarzaynar Member Posts: 138 Arc User
I'm just wondering if I am the only one who thinks the prices for some things on the Exchange are just completely nuts?

I'm thinking specifically of the price for lock-box ships, but there are other things as well. I get that the lock-box ships are rare, and therefore should have a high price. But around a hundred million credits for a ship just seems excessive.

Maybe I am missing something, but I don't even know how you'd get that kind of money without having sold one of those ships or selling a bunch keys. Basically, you'd have to spend real money to get a ton of the fake money. So if you can't afford to buy anything in the C-Store your SOL.

Or you could grind Foundry missions dedicated to junk drops and just sell/recycle the junk from that.

Or actually craft some usable stuff people buy (Mk II CrtDx2 weapons are always popular) and sell that.

Or grind dilithium, convert it to zen, then buy C-Store items for things to sell.

Or actually save most of your EC and live off items you were given at Mk II and upgraded with you until level 50 and only grind for Fleet or Reputation gear.

What's an GTN? Do you mean the exchange?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Not neccesarily... I was making easily 10-20 mil a week at one point selling rare Doffs I'd received from working the Doff system, no real money invested, just some dilithium 'upgrading' three low value Doffs...

I just sold nearly 10mil in Boffs over night on my KDF aligned Romulan consisting of a couple female Orions and a couple Romulan SRO Boffs...
The entitlement is strong in these forums...

Always remember - the prices on the exchange are set by the buyers, not the sellers. Any seller can put any item up for any price, but whether or not it sells is entirely up to the buyer.

Er...I just kind of accept that it might take me a couple of months or so to afford something...

Considering you have about 0.5% chance to open the "jackpot" ship from a box, and a key cost between 1.5m to 2m, I think 120mil is a fair price. 120m is the price of 80keys at 1.5m, and if you used them instead, you wouldn't be close to the 0.5% chance to open the ship.
And this is usually the price of a box ship if you buy it at the proper time. Usually it goes even lower, I bought my Wells for 60m.

    So yeah, it's fair.

DOH! My bad, been playing a lot of SWTOR. :P Error fixed.

Or you could grind Foundry missions dedicated to junk drops and just sell/recycle the junk from that.

Is the Foundry even up atm? A bit of a side note; been wanting to do the Top-3 thing, but never see anything.
Or actually craft some usable stuff people buy (Mk II CrtDx2 weapons are always popular) and sell that.

I'll need to look into this more, last time I tried nothing I made sold.
Or grind dilithium, convert it to zen, then buy C-Store items for things to sell.

This looks like a long term plan.
Or actually save most of your EC and live off items you were given at Mk II and upgraded with you until level 50 and only grind for Fleet or Reputation gear.

My main toon is already 60 and at top Rep level, so this is not really a viable option. Unless I create yet another alt.

Surprise this isn't Frequently Created Threads at this pont.

Same here, part of the reason I even asked.

Average cost of opening boxes for a ship is $250 or 25,000 zen.
    Stack of 10 keys = 1125 zen
22.2 stacks of 10 keys = 444,000,000 ec on the exchange at 2 mill a key.

So ships on the exchange priced at 100 mill are listed for around 1/4 the price they should be. This is mostly due to luck draws on boxes lowering the cost. Supply and demand. :)

They are high but they are worth it. They are either a rare find or you have to spend lobi on them. If you want them that bad. You will have to really work to get that.

As for me, I won't see buying that anytime soon. I have yet have the need to boost my starting EC cap. And I been playing since FTP.

There is ways to get EC, you just have to find them.

Yes the Foundry is up. But I didn't see anything about the Top 3 on it. Just the usual missions and spot light ones.

I did my usual quick run for my Dil this weekend for my Romulan. Where I'm trying to finish getting Romulan gear for the ship.

The simple answer is if you are a new player... you are not supposed to have a lockbox ship unless you are cunning, or spend $.

Its that simple and I am fine with it as well.

Most "Current" box ships are going to cost you the EC you would earn converting 40 keys. So about $40 of real world money. I know that sucks I just said a brand new player should have to pay $40 to get an ultimate ship. In many games you would have to be playing for months on end to get the games best "weapon" or ship. STO offers you a fast track by dropping 40 bucks.

Now the cunning option is your other option. Going that route you have to find ways to earn EC. There are many ideas here are the main ones...
    1) grind PvE like a mad man/woman
    2) grind the exchange like a Ferengi
    3) spend a smaller amount of money and use that seed money to grind the exchange
    4) grind PvE with a mix of converting some of your in game Dilihtium to Zen to items to sell for ec. (at current exchange rate with one toon you can buy 1 key aprox every 2 days.)
    5) with 4 in mind roll more toons... I will admit I am not sure how many toon slots F2P get anymore, however you can start more then one account if you really don't want to spend zen for toon slots, or sub for one month to unlock a few. However if you where to level 3-4 toons to a reasonable level where you could earn Dilithum on them... you can easily with 4-5 toons make 5-6 mil EC per day simply converting your Alts D to Zen to Ec. The key of course to making money with alts is to not spend much of what you make playing them on them.

In general in STO as in most F2P games starting with nothing and adding nothing in terms of $ will make it pretty hard to get ahead. However if you are willing to sub for a month to unlock a few things and use some zen to unlock credit caps and bank access and perhaps a few extra toon slots you can built yourself a base that makes playing for free and still enjoying the "paid" toys much easier. At some point you can even buy other peoples Keys from them with your own EC bankroll and earn bound things like Rich D tickets... when something like the D weekend event is on those things are worth 10k D for 1 min work per toon... the only requirement is to have opened boxes at some point to have earned a few of them.

One thing you can do, if you are patient enough, and don't mind the constant rubberbanding, you can scan and collect a ton of the traces during the anniversary event. Then, convert them all to fragments. Save them, and don't put them on the exchange.

Wait till after you can no longer get the traces from the scans, and then wait till there are few of them on the exchange. You might (note, I said might) be able to get more for them then, instead of now.

That is my plan. I have a whole week set aside for doing just that. I will spend my whole time doing nothing but scanning, and combining them into fragments. There are a lot of players that can't afford the extreme Dil cost for upgrading, but can get EC saved up over time to buy what is needed to upgrade.

Also, if you look at the cost now, it will prove that most people will spend up to three, or four times the EC to buy the fragments than it will take to just buy the superior upgrades, and use the Dil to upgrade. I made 17 million in just a few days because of it. lol.

Either way, good luck on getting the EC you want. Though, I am going to stay away from the lock box ships. The only one I have, a friend gave it to me as a gift. It is awesome, but so are my other C-Store ships.
