subscribing for at least a month benefit?

neteru3neteru3 Member Posts: 12 Arc User
Not sure if this is still current, but I had started playing my account & leveling my three characters: 1 Federation, 1 Klingon, & 1 Romulan since I am a free player. While reading and trying to learn more I came across the suggestion that beginning players should subscribe at least for one month since when leveling up you get those respec skills tokens every ten levels. I am pretty high up in the leveling already for my three characters now so here is my question:

If I subscribed now would those respec skills tokens be rewarded retroactively or would the only benefit now of subscribing for a month be the Zen stipend?

Thank you to anyone that knows.

Short answer, no. They are only given if you level up while subscribed.

The main reason to subscribe for 1 month is to get account bank slots, more bank slots, and lift the EC cap. All these you keep after the subscription ends

To also clarify in more detail, it doesn't lift the EC cap, but you get the 500 Zen which you can put to use to cover the exact cost of lifting the EC cap.

It also permanently unlocks these for every alt: 2 Boff slots, 30 inventory slots, 1 additional character slot.

There's also a temporary extra 1000 Dilithium refinement per day.

I've also received 1 respec token at level 60 at much later than it should have been awarded. Likely a bug given the relatively recent intro of L60.

Also, if you level a character during a bonus XP event, the extra inventory and bank space unlocking on that character may lag behind as though it doesn't register the bonus event. So far I'm hoping this is still the case as my newest at level 56 still has no space for anything.

    DON'T SUBCRIBE!

It isn't worth the money. I am an LTS and I can tell you that you will not be happy. Just don't do it until they FIX the game play issues, the bugs, and sort out all the other balance and forum issues.

You pay for a subscription and YOU DO NOT GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!

No forum titles, no 500 zen a month, none of it. Wel you might get the zen but with the new price scam its worthless. I am still in limbo on the bank slots, and inventory slots. I paid for extra slots but when I went to LTS I didn't get any additional ones. I had to buy the bridge office and DOFF slots as well with zen that should have been awarded as part of the LTS.

Additionally, many of the perks that were sold as part of the DR pack were not given. No forum titles, no ship upgrade tokens, no uniforms, etc. I did get the crew members but had to buy the captain respec token and ship upgrade tokens.

When I filed a ticket for the issue I was told, and I have the email "we are aware of the problem and are working to fix it." And that was nearly 5 months ago. Still waiting...... still waiiting.....

So no, don't do a subscription. Just don't waste your money like I did.
What happened to those unique forum ranks I paid for?

You get 1,000 extra dilithium refinement every two days, and you get it after completing a 48 hour long DOFF mission that rewards no CXP.

You will probably still need to buy the EC cap removal once your subscription ends too. Don't sell anything expensive unless you are sure the cap is removed, or you will lose your EC.

I suggest not to do it!
personally i got 1 month subcribtion only 'cuz i found a physical copy of the game in a store with only 3$. in rest all my investments went to zen.
if you want the titles and the veteran status is cheaper to save the money for life sub when it's on sale.

You only get that 1000 extra dil if you are over 800 or 900 day subscriber, do you really think this has 800 or 900 days left in it?

No. Which is why they've just revamped an old mission arc, released an expansion and hired expensive voice actors from the original cast. Obviously the game is DOOOOMED!!!

LTS , currently not worth it.

But 1 month sub worth it for 2 reasons, first the keepable[sic] perks, the second reason I forget...

If you would have asked me the same question a year ago the answer would have been different...

If you would have asked me during season 6, then I would have urged you to buy the LTS or sub...

    Times change.

It's definately worth to subscribe for a single month.

As others have mentioned you're getting 500 Zen, a character and several bank, ship, boff, account bank and inventory slots. Considering the sealed retail versions of the game (which include 30 days of subscription) are still being widely sold on ebay, amazon etc... for as low as $2,50, it's worth it. No need to spend $15 on a direct subscription.

Plus you get a way to install STO without going through Arc...which is a nice, little bonus.

no, that extra inventory/bank space is unloked for chars where acive when you did wre paying for it, any new char created after sunsciption expires will have no bonus slots.

And ec cap is but back, but unloking it for 500 zen is dirt cheap.

That alone is a great feature, despite having a few gigs worth of updates to do afterwards.

Totally forgot about it and ended up copying the game from another PC to fix the damage demorecord did to the graphics, all for trying to make a screenshot for the upcoming screenshot competition.

Turns out demorecord can't even re-create entire scenes as they appear in game, so that for example the main buildings on Kobali in the distant background fail to load, and then trying to get back in game after that narrows the field of view so badly that every character loses polygons and facial features like hair.

With how fragile the game is, I should have known better than to play around with that and simple keybind commands (which break existing key binds at random). It's hard enough to play the game in its current state as it is.

Thank you everyone for the information, input, insight, & suggestions. I have my three characters between 30s & 40s so based upon what I read I not going to subscribe.
As a brand new player beginning to level it would definitely be a benefit to subscribe for at least one month it seems, but since those respec skill tokens are not retroactively earned along with a couple of the other perks it would seem a waste now.
Thank you again for the help responders.

Realistically, you're only going to need one or two respect tokens anyway, after that you'll know what skills to level, and eventually never see that screen again. (My new Reman entirely forgot to level any skills, and it was only when he hit either level 30 or 40 and content got difficult that I remembered to spend points).
