Okay guys here it is in a nut shell. Apparently someone wants to kill the game. I have been here for 5 years and am a lifer. I used to enjoy spending countless hours playing this game and spending my money to enhance my experience. Then something happened.....
Some Pakled decided to take away the +5 power boosts that each of my Efficient Saurians had. That was the first straw, I had saved up hundreds of millions of Ec to buy those boffs. Then comes the nerfing of science abilities, this really TRIBBLE me off because until this happened I could hold my own in Kerrat. Then I started noticing that the powers trays had lag, it was really noticeable on ground when you tried to fire your weapon. In the time it takes for my toon to fire one exploit shot I can fire my real world pistol 6 times. Come on the rate of fire should be faster for a tac officer who is trained to handle guns.
But here is my BEEF... After this Anniversary debacle LAG is so prevelant I am stuck doing the Texas 2 Step rubberband dance in every phase of the game. The lag is so bad in the "Dust to Dust" that I have to depend on my away team to get me through the first part because I can only get a shot off once every six to eight seconds. So now the lag is so bad that my ship freezes in PvE and I keep getting blown up by opponents who should never hit me at all.
Nothing is more frustrating than playing WITHOUT macros and waiting half a second or more to see a power you clicked on to activate. This has caused me to seriously reconsider how much time I spend playing this game. see what you DEVS at Cryptic fail to understand is you have to reinvest the tons of cash you get into more servers. You guys do not seem interested in anything other than popping out some new power you have to spend a ton of money on to get. Or there is the alternative...HACKING yes, I said it... I have seen way too many people running around with the pimped out latest ships with everything maxed out epic with all the powers that could even be possibly earned in the game. I do not see any effort at all on the part of Cryptic to put to an end the illegal activity. There are videos on youtube that show people clearly in violation of the TOS. Then there are sites like tautunleashed that go into detail about these bots, hacks, and the like...
So when the lag makes it to where I cannot compete even with NPC's much less the Min/Maxers and PvP Hackers I must reconsider why I am playing this game.
I fail to see how it's deliberate lag by dev's throughout your entire post.
A lot of anger and frustration yes, but no deliberate lag evidence...

Read up on Cogent. It's the alleged ISP that "serves" the area the Cryptic server farm is in.
Thanks to the wonders of Congressionally-protected monopolies, Cogent can get away with all manner of misbehavior, because absent fiberoptic lines (which aren't everywhere, despite what the Frontier and Verizon FIOS commercials try to tell you) the folks in their "service" area have no options. Hopefully, the new regulations the FCC is proposing, to redefine broadband service as a utility, protect net neutrality, and force it to hold to the same standards as for instance electricity or water supply, will rein in such abuses.
In the meantime, devs can't cause lag; were the rubberbanding being caused by STO software, we'd all experience it constantly, rather than it happening to some on an irregular basis (ask a CO player about the coyotes in the Desert sometime); and overall, I do believe your ire, while justifiable, is badly mis-aimed.

Think what the OP is referring to it the inherent engine lag that has been a problem since launch. The 2nd producer tried to make changes to the engine which didn't amount to much. Then, we were promised that some of the engine upgrades that were included in Cryptic's new game would be ported to STO which never happened. Meanwhile, Cryptic developers keep adding more instances, animations, etc which further overloads a struggling MMO engine which increases lag/delay/ or the engine just un-q's the key stroke you just made resulting in spamming a key trying to get the engine to register what you tried 4 key-strokes ago.
I've got an Alienware dual quad on a dedicated 10 meg/10 meg connection. They don't come much better than that and I get the engine problems, myself. TOR has the same problems, poor engine/poorer performance.
You do know that it's not run on one server but numerous game servers per game right?
So no, the "same server" will not be hosting xbox one versions of any Cryptic/PWE games.

Cryptic should seriously be looking into an upgrade to their server farm, especially if that has not already occurred more than once since launch. By their own statistics, there are now millions of captains & ships, with a global player base, and the data load will only increase, if the game goes on for more years, as they have said they are planning.
Add to this the improvements available in hardware & OS's now, it appears from the user's perspective that the hardware just can't keep up anymore. I've seen other games with much smaller player numbers encounter the same issue; no reason that it doesn't apply here.

STO player since November 2013
Does anyone here actually comprehend how servers work these days??? They can dynamically spin up hardware to cope with the load if needed. What occurred at the beginning of the Anniversary event was a flood of the login server, combined with a script that was re-running on every account every time someone logged in causing massive server abuse (similar to a DDOS attack) just from people logging in to play normally.
This was addressed in the recent patch but a lot of the hardware that used to be STO's has been spun up for Neverwinter instead, so we are lacking in physical hardware support. That maybe reversed a little seeing as the rubber banding is still causing issues for some.
The UI lag is totally different and is due more to the refresh/polling rate of the UI. Currently it's set way too low and therefore refreshes too slowly, from what I gather.

Yup. People are running out of reasons to be angry at Cryptic now so it's time for the crackpot conspiricy theories.
The UI lag though...I've been thinking. What if that is intentional? Since you can still use abilities even though the timer sometimes says it's still on cooldown, it must be a method of testing the muscle memory of the playerbase.
Don't you see what this means! They are training us subconsciously for corporate espionage and high profile assassinations!
Lag in the UI, especially the tray, is terrible. Needs fixing ASAP.
"After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true. Except for a T5 Connie. That would be f*%#ing awesome." - Mr. Spock
First part of the UI lag fix is on tribble, they are working on optimisation of it for a second pass too by the looks of things. A bug was released with the Anniversary patch that caused the Tray not to update correctly as it didn't always take a single action as being enough to cause a tray update.
Jesse Heinig put up a post regarding this in the Tribble Patch Notes thread.
As for the OP, I still can't find anything worthy of substance in his arguments.

Why would the people whose paychecks this game helps write
intentionally
INTENTIONALLY
sabotage it?
People think this.
There are people. With functioning brains. Living, breathing adults. Who actually think this.
Oh my head...
Gee why would they intentionally sabotage the game? let's see how about this line of thinking,...
Dev #1 says we need to find a way to create more profit what if we forced STO players to look at and play other PWE games so they are forced into another spiraling time sink and spend more money?
Dev #2 says well after all it is free to play besides we can allocate more servers to neverwinter nights and other PWE games.
Dev #3 says these players are too spoiled they want us to slow down the power creep let's show them what a real slow down looks like, perhaps then they will quit complaining about our half-hearted efforts to fix anything.
Meanwhile Chinese overlords say we need more money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if cogent the fault switxh isps it that somple i am sure as a gaming company pwe has more than one location try running alternate servers in other areas that have fiber optic access. i know i have no right to complain i am only 30 foot from a fiberoptic hub so my roadrunner turbo is blinding fast .but you can't complain it thats your reason nove servers to better location

Are you saying that it used to give a flat +5 Power boost as opposed to +5 Warp Core Efficiency?

Another one of these moaning I cant take it anymore posts.
OP, just quit playing already, clearly this game makes you angry so just STOP playing!
All of it? No but some or most yes... when i couldnt connect or was constantly dropping i did a number of tracerts each night...
would time out or get really high numbers at Cogent.
I'm sure it's not all their fault... server load or high volume of peeps coming back for events...
pwe probably only allocates enough servers for average day to day populations for each game...
