Lack of skill points?

I'm getting messages telling me that I am gaining skill points when I defeat enemies and such in foundry missions but when I check my skill point pool its still at 500 which is where it was before I started the mission.

What mission(s) have you seen this with? Please include the Mission ID (ST-blahblah).

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    part 6 is ST-HR3QZTLX5

The same thing is happening with Unholy Alliance part II. I get told I am receiving skill points but when I check I am still at 500. The ID for this one is ST-HS4HSJPFQ

I'm having the same issue. I just reached level 50 and am not getting skill points from anything, not even doff assignments.

This is by design. Skill Points stop accumulating at Level 50. From then on, any Skill Point awards become Expertise, and your character will then start accumulating Specialization Points.

    Isn't that at level 60?

It's all confusing and I am not certain, but:
Skill Points can be used to raise skills. You can't raise your skills anymore past level 50. Instead, you gain access to specializations.

That said - if this distinction exists in the game mechanics, the UI doesn't really tell.

But we still need to gain skill points to get to level 60 do we not? Before DR, yes, all skill points once you hit level 50 became expertise but not now. I noticed (and reported in two threads previously which went unanswered) that from levels 50 to 59 inclusively you still gain skill points but they don't show in the notifications panel. Probably because previously you did not earn skill points after hitting level 50 but you do now otherwise you'd never reach the 1,498,6209 skill points required for level 60...

You should still get the popups that state that you received skill points, and if you follow the XP bar at the top of the screen it should fill in.

After level 50, these skill points can no longer be spent on skills, but they are still used for determining when you level up to 51, 52, etc.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply.

That's kinda wrong. Expertise is a second currency you gain from the very beginning that is used (mainly) for Boff training. At level 50, your skill points get renamed to specialization xp while you keep to gain expertise. A fixed amount of specialization xp will get you a new 'level' (till 60) and then only a token specialization point.

You get a specialization point since lvl 50 for every level and use it for specialization trees.

A more complete explanation than mine. Thank you.

You're welcome. I'm glad I didn't sound rude (I hope). Didn't get a chance to reread the posts I wrote under the merry influence of (a little too much) good beer. Well, till now anyway.

Well whether it's called skill points (which the rank progression still calls it until you hit 60) or specialisation points, my point still remains true. From levels 50-59 it doesn't display the rewarded amount of whatever you want to call it in the notifications section (rewards tab of chat window and pop up area above chat window), yet once you hit 60 it starts displaying again.

Are you sure skill point gains are displayed above the chat window befor lvl 50? I've always thought skill points (unlike expertise) don't get displayed and the visual of the number (in purple, afaik) 'flies from where you gained it', say a defeated NPC, towards the left of your skill bar (by default on top of the screen).

Yep, I thought it was odd on my existing toons but I noticed it was a definite glitch when I started up a new toon after DR launched. He had skill points being shown right up until he hit level 50. I actually filed a bug report when I first hit level 50 because I thought I simply wasn't getting any skill points any more. Then I realised my progress bar was still moving up, it just wasn't notifying me any more.

You are correct about the 'fly in' text, but it should also display in the notifications area.

very well then, didn't notice that. It should get added for lvl 50-59.

One thing I should have mentioned before, is that since level 50 (I'm now at 56) I've been stuck with a permanently flashing "spend skill points" button because I stopped accumulating at 1,500 and I had a skill I could have spent some of those on. I was saving up for a higher level skill, not knowing that I wouldn't be able to upgrade skills past 50.

It won't let me, that's the problem. The issue is that it's a space skill, and I've maxed out my space skill points, but I also don't have any ground skills that I can spend the points on.

Then go to ESD to the Skill Trainer and respec your skills from start. You should at least have one free Respec Token.
