I have a suggestion for a new set that could be fit on any ship.
Imagine a set that comprises of 2 universal consoles and a device, named something like "Hybrid Adaption Set" or something similar. When all 3 are on a ship, one of the ship's Lt BOFF slots gains the ability to accommodate a hybrid specialist officer. The two consoles could be obtained via missions but the device would need to be bought via the C-Store. (The device, of course, being needed to complete the set and allow the hybrid seat.) The consoles and the 2 set bonus wouldn't need to be anything flash.
What would the point of this be?
For starters it will give older ships a little more flexibility and build variety without buffing them. It will make some of the older ships a little more attractive to use (especially ships that have 3 ensigns of the same profession). It will allow those who can't afford to buy T6 ships a cheap way to taste their capabilities, and (because we know that Cryptic does nothing unless they see profit), it could serve as an entry sale for bigger ships, i.e. someone buys the device, tries the abilities and it encourages them to buy a T6 ship.
Some will think that this will make the T6 ships shine a little less. Well, I will disagree. It's hard to compare ships of different types due to the sheer variety of the ships in the game. Thankfully we can compare a Fleet T5U Intrepid (sporting this hypothetical set) and the Pathfinder, a T6 ship. Remember, the Fleet T5U has the 2 universal consoles and the device slotted, hence the lower device and console slots. Stats are for level 50 ships. Also bear in mind that the shield modifier for the T5U is higher as it is a fleet version. When T6 Fleet versions come out they will have the same modifier.
SHIP...........................................Fleet T5U Intrepid...............Pathfinder
HULL................................................29,700............................31,050
SHIELD MODIFIER..............................1.43.................................1.3
BOFF SLOTS (TOTAL)...........................12...................................13
SPECIALIZATION BOFF SLOTS...............2.....................................2
DEVICE SLOTS......................................2....................................3
AVAILABLE CONSOLES..........................9....................................10
SHIP TRAITS........................................0.....................................1
As you can see, a T5U ship with the set won't match a T6 ship, but it will give players extra flexibility and should make Cryptic happy as they get the opportunity for more sales. There also wouldn't be any reason why a T6 ship couldn't use the set for extra specialist abilities.
Thoughts, people?
