'Threat' mod on upgraded gear - is this bad?

carlosbflycarlosbfly Member Posts: 682 Arc User
I just upgraded my Assimilated Deflector Array and as a result, got the Threat mod now on it. This doesn't mean more enemies are going to target me now does it? I assume they would only give you a beneficial mod and it means my threat level is lowered so I'll be targeted less?

Am I right or wrong here?

Well... sometimes higher threat is good. For instance if you have the T6 skill "reciprocity". Or if you're misguided soul that likes to tank instead of doing damage.

But really... stacking DEF + Reciprocity + some threat is not a bad way to do alot of DPS in a Intelligence T6 ship.

Threat mods either increase or decrease your threat, one of several variables that determine who they will target next. I'm unsure of the actual math *looks for Virusdancer*

    + is great if you're a tank.
    - is great if you're an escort.

    Totally forgot about that..

That's the thing - there is no + or - on the mod. Just 'Threat'. So I can't figure out if I've just upgraded this deflector and been 'blessed' with the bonus of now having more enemies target me. Not good news in an Escort.

I'd assume it's an increase to Threat, since the Assimilated Set is a "tanking" set. The hovertip or right-click more info should have more information about it, but yeah - it's most likely increased Threat given the set.

Uuuuuugh. I looked all over the helptools and literally no mention of it minus or increased threat but maybe you are right and it is a plus/increase. What a useful upgrade for my Escort

I just checked info, and yes, you were right - a 10+ increase in Threat. Ugh :( Is that going to be a total nightmare for me now in an Escort or will I notice little difference? I have no points (obviously) in my Threat skill anyway.

+10 to the threat control skill is so small you won't notice it.

Only a misguided soul would assume tanking would cost dps.

Thank God. I had visions I'd painted a MASSIVE target on my Escorts hull. They did mention I also get a small passive damage bonus but tbh, I don't care - what a useless mod for all that upgrading.

Actually... if it's a bonus to the actual threat control skill and not JUST +threat, then it'd give you a small resist buff?

+10 Starship Threat Control would be +1 Energy/Kinetic Damage Resistance Rating...which would then be subject to any diminishing returns based on the total amount of DRR/DBRR.
