The Case for 6 Starting BOff Slots...

raventomoeraventomoe Member Posts: 723 Arc User
I actually did ask about whether this would be done or not in a live stream that Smirk did and he seemed to like it as a good idea. Figured to put it on the forums and hope a Dev sees this.

We all start off with 4 slots for Bridge Officers in the three factions. This works fine for the first ten levels when your ship has only 3 stations to put them on unless you get lucky and have either the Steamrunner with it's 2 Ensign Tac Bridge Stations or the B'Rotlh BoP with it's 3 Ensign Universal and 1 Ensign Science and even than...still luck out. Reason?

The game up to Level ten for those two factions gives you two Tactical Bridge Officers, One Engineering, 1 Science. The Romulans get 1 Tactical, 1 Engineer, 2 Science for their Bridge Officers. You also earn through Level Up new ones and get ones of them in DOff Recruitments.>_< There is also the fact the mission "Doomsday Machine" has a Bridge Officer as a reward.

However at Level 10, your options for ships in those factions are as follows.

Federation
Cruiser: Bridge Stations> 1 Lt. & 1 Ensign Engineer, 1 Ensign Science and Tac
Exeter: Bridge Stations> 2 Lt. Engineer, 1 Ensign Science and Tac
Escort: 1 Lt. and 1 Ensign Tactical, 1 Ensign Science and Engineer
Escort Refit: 2 Lt. Tactical, 1 Ensign Science and Engineer
Science Vessel: 1 Lt. and 1 Ensign Science, 1 Ensign Tac and Engineer
Science Refit: 2 Lt. Science, 1 Ensign Tac and Engineer

KDF
QulDun> 1 Lt. and 2 Ensign Universal
Qaw'Dun> 2 Lt. and 1 Ensign Universal
Somraw> Copy Paste of Fed Escort in seating
K'Tanco> Copy Paste of Fed Cruiser in seating

Romulan Republic
DhelanWarbird> 1 Lt. Tac, 1 Ensign Engineer, 2 Ensign Science
Dhael> 1 Lt. Tac, 1 Engineer and Universal Ensign, 2 Ensign Science

Now this made sense BEFORE you revamped the Fed Tutorial and Missions as well as the KDF.

So the problem here becomes clear and your options are as follows.

1) Either you spend 250 Zen for another set of Bridge Officer slots or you fly the Escort if Fed; the Raptor or Bird-of-Prey if you are KDF seeing as the Romulans got a ship that takes advantage of what Bridge Officer types they get and even they could benefit if they got the Dhael during the free giveaway this past week. Not everyone can buy up new Bridge Officer slots unless they got alts with dil farming as a skill.

2) You dismiss one of the starting Bridge Officers and right now, no one can get rid of Tovan and dropping Elisa or K'Gan would be silly seeing as both have Torp Spread III...which is right now unavailable to train in. If you are like me...you grow attached to the starting Bridge Officers you get.

Now I understand you guys need to make money but this kinda needs to be fixed up and maybe spruced a little with the new Bridge Officer Training you put out. So here is my ideas and feel free to implement them in any combination

1) Increase the starting number of Bridge Officer Slots new characters get from 4 to 6. This will allow wiggle room for new players to grab up the ship they want.

2) This can be done with the first idea as well but maybe add in that Levels 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 hand out 2 Bridge Officer Slots. If you implement this with the above, it can stay to one slot each but two would allow far more wiggle room. Especially for those of us who want to buy C-Store/Lobi Store BOffs but need a slot for them first.

3) Good job adding BOff slots to the Liberated Reman Borg package for the Romulans. Now how about getting a free slot when you buy C-store and/or Lobi Store BOffs? I admit, it makes more sense for the C-store side though again you make money this way. Not the best of the three ideas I put up but figured it should be here anyways.

Well that's my two cents on the matter. If anyone disagrees with me, feel free to do so. Just remember to file your complaints in triplicate with the Circular File if they are in anyway negative snark or needless flaming.

how about, no for an answer.

Apart from the new change to BO skills, as a free player you do get enough BO slots for 1 T5 ship - now you no longer need to juggle skills under the new system, you do not need more than 5.

    Note the word "need"

If you "want" more, pay for them.

    Simple.

I think you misunderstand what I was stating and the new system. You can get enough Bridge Officers to fill out any of the T5 ships via Level up. But I was not talking about Level 40+ characters.

First things first...the Bridge Officer Powers and how they learn them you mentioned.

The Bridge Officers ares still locked to abilities that fit their Class. I.E. Tactical Officers can not learn Engineering Team or Emergency Power to <System> powers.

Now to the ship versus Bridge Officer seating issue.

What I am talking about the Tier 2 ships as for right now the Fed and KDF are locked into getting either the Escort (Federation) or the Raptor/BoP (KDF) due to their getting two Tactical Bridge Officers and those ships have the seating to take advantage of that. Otherwise it is buying two new Bridge Officer slots and that may not be an option for some people right away.

Even though the Romulans get Bridge Officers that can take full advantage of the Dhael's seating arrangements...they can still benefit from my idea due to getting a free BOff as a reward for "Turning Point" when they chose a faction and you get that lovely box of stuff.

Unless there has been some sort of major nerf I don't know about, but from a Fed point of view, you get a choice of 3 T2 ships. http://spidermitch.com/sto/fed/SpidermitchFEDShipChart.jpg

Each ship as 3xE and 1xLt (Career path) at T2 - so at T2 you still only "NEED" 4 BO slots for your chosen path. And there is the clue, your *-CHOSEN-* path, unless at T2 you are trying to be a jack of all trades, there is no need to have a massive roster of BO's

4 is less than 6 if I remember my math correctly. And still less than what a free player gets at max... so if you *WANT* to be a jack of all trades, you pay for it - otherwise, you get what you "NEED" to paly the game in full for free

So again, if you "WANT" more than you actually "NEED" - support the game and buy them.

    Start with 4.
    +1 at 30.
    +1 at 40.

That's Silver, and creates an issue with the T3 (Level 20) Refits which have the +1 BOFF station for which you would not have a Commissioned BOFF slot available.

Which is where if you want additional BOFF slots, you can buy two for 250 Zen...

...or if you're Gold, er, I forget how many additional BOFF slots they get as they level - but they wouldn't have to buy the slots for the T3 ships.

You actually get a free Bridge Officer Slot when you hit Level 20.

Compromise idea? Get a BOff slot as well when you hit Level 10?

Only one I had issues with was my Sci. Where I needed 2 Sci not 2 Tacs. So I had to drop the Saurian for a Sci Boff. I hated to see him go. But i picked up a cool Boff from the exchange. Since then this is my crew.

Evidently a free and silver issue, Lifetime since beta and I've never had an issue with boff slots, heck I've got something like 12 slots or something silly at 60 and I don't know what to do with most of them.

And this is what I am talking about...we who are silver/free players shouldn't have to dismiss a BOff we like to use the T2 ship we want. :( As I said, maybe make it so we get a free slots at 10 and 20 (I think we get one at 20 but I'd have to retest this to confirm it).

It's a good point. Have the gained BoFF slots at 10 and 20. Makes sense and still leaves more than enough wiggle room for the T5 ships. Though I really think Silver should have 7 at Lvl 50. That would be fairer considering some of the ship seating options.
    Chris Robert's on SC:
"You don't have to do something again and again and again repetitive that doesn't have much challange, that's just a general good gameplay thing."

No kidding and the new Intel and Command Boffs? X_X Help!

EDIT: Not to forget the special reward mission BOffs (the Reman and Breen from their respective FE series when in rerun and the Jem'hadar you get from Facility 4028).
