I score 2300+ all the time. It rains slivers on me and I get shards very often. No fragments yet.
What am I doing wrong?

It is possible to get Omega Slivers (Uncommon), Shards (Rare) and Fragments (Very Rare) from the mini-game, though the chances are very small. The higher your score, the better your chances.
Seems a bit off IMO, since netting no less than 1200 - 1700, has yet to ever reward ANY shards, let alone fragments.
It seems only scores higher than 2000, has any possible chances of these and, that is pretty lame!
And, no it's not do to not having the skill to get 2000, it's the freaking latency making it so it doesn't happen for me.
Mine were Volcan (completed), Starbase 39 (completed) and Sol (can't complete). Getting many Red traces but does not appear to want to complete. Reason uknown.
Eh, I just click start and let it run now. Actually have one running while I post this. Made an effort for a couple of days, but being old and decrepit my best score is around 1700 and still only got a trace for that. So why stress it when doing nothing gives the same reward, just launch it and do something else while it runs. Saving all my stress for trying to do the Ramps in Dust to Dust on Very Hard, grrrr.

Would you care to share the metrics on the average score?
I'm sure some people can do this well (and get a chance at a fragment), but for some of us this is horribly discouraging to struggle to get above 1000 consistently - all for next to no reward.
Higher scores indeed increase chances for better results; I've hit as high as 2450, but even this high score does NOT guarantee a Silver or Shard. I've had shards as low as 1700, but received mere colored particles as high as 2400. True, the mini-game is bugged, in that you can get a particle with a zero score, and that it sometimes shuts down early for no apparent reason.
BTW, I normally stay put and run the game a few times at each location, to farm several of a given color before moving on to the next location for the daily. This minimizes the travel required to stockpile the crafting queue.
With respect to the completion of the Daily Omega mission, it helps to have more than one faction represented among your captains, as KDF & Rom captains have different locations to run the mini-game. Even within a single faction, however, there is more than one daily mission set, so if you're not getting completion outside ESD for example, drop the mission and try again (as a work-around). There is no cool-down unless the mission is completed.
I must say that this is one of the better event games Cryptic has devised in recent years, and I'm enjoying it while it lasts... :P

Dropping the mission no longer works. You get the same identical mission. Much like a doff mission in a zone, you have to wait for that one to "time out" and recycle to a new one hours later.

Alot of slivers, some shards and a few fragments (when I get 2600)
But I still get that auto-complete bug from time to time and I start shouting obscenities at my screen
those damn Omega upgrades take 20 hours to craft, but no dilithium cost to apply make them sorta worth it
The more toons you have with R&D, the better. You can spread out the production of the Omega upgrades since they're bound to account.
