Is it now impossible to remove BOFFS from candidate roster except by deleting them? It was formerly possible to transfer between characters by mail or put them on the exchange. Now it seems to be use them or lose them.

I give up....
I have 21 chars that have/are loosing boffs abilities even chars abilities each time I log in or, when it doesnt happen on log in, map move....
load out are loading.... nothing but realy nothing at all
Chars that had no changes since day 1 they were trained with abilities completly lost them, I've tried looking for that 'fix' you are talking about, doesnt work, abilities are greyed or avalable are some I've never had/use on those boffs...
Even when I can find a relatively suitable setup for 1 char, saving it in a loadout at least 2-3 times, start that crapy 'dust to dust mission... and bam... most or all of boffs abilities gone again
and oh btw, the avalable skills - drag to tray menu is showing nonsense : eng ability have tac icons & colors, tac have sci one, second abilty of same type is different color & icon....
insane lag, SNR for +250sec, gameclient.exe crashing, etc was already bad but that....
(I have a 100/100M fiber ISP with most of time 4-6ms ping on most svrs so dont tell me it's me)
I'm just wondering :
- since I'm absolutly sure that whatever you'll do to fix this, I'll still have to setup everything again and apparently will have to pay for some of my 21 chars...
- since that boffs / abilities prob has been going on for at least 1 year, which forced me to stop stuffing or buying things for most of my chars
- since I dont have 57h a day to setup everything again before I go for a 5mn STF that will probably lead to a gameclient.exe crash at 1st pwe pwe
etc etc etc
what should I do ?
- stop playing STO ? or try to be a jurk and jump into any Q missions without abilties or stuff just for the fun to TRIBBLE off the last few people trying to play (not realy my style)
because right now that all I can think about STO
PS: BTW those new boffs/abilities bugs are leading to some "potentialy nasty exploits' since I just realised one of my main chars on a T5-U FPE was able to use at least 16 boffs abilities after trying to get back boffs in space part of 'dust to dust'.... too bad PVP is dead I would have used that for fun

Any Bridge Officer that possessed a "rare" ability had it restored to them via a fix-up script we ran on the Boff's data.
Here's a question :
I seem to recall in interview somewhere that had the following statement (and I paraphrase) :
" ... we prefer not to use scripts to update (whatever) because it tends to put an extra load on the servers "
Am I to understand that part of the crazy rubberbanding that has been going on is part of the "fix-up script" of 14.3 million Boffs (according to the infographic ...) ?
One toon, shockingly, came up fully locked and loaded with all the right skills in place.
The other toon came up with old skills. Verified on the Gateway what skills were still there and located them all. But then I don't think any of my skills counted as "rare skills."
We'll see if these loadouts actually hold when I log in tonight, but they survived map transitions intact last night. Will report once I can verify...

Devs, have you considered what the new BOFF system does to players that had every BOFF setup the way they want with abilities they want on certain ships, and what the new system does to that? If not, imagine spending millions of EC and thousands of DIL to get the right BOFFs, and the right abilities, then only to find out the system you liked so much just got thrown to the way side.
If the system was done to implement the new Command specialization, then why not treat command like Intelligence? That would have been simpler and NOWHERE near as complicated and convoluted as this new system.
If you and other players can report which exact Boffs were affected by this, it might help us track down the exact cause faster.
Were they unique Boffs, such as the FE Reman or Jem'Hadar? Or Lobi-purchased Boffs? Or just randomly-generated mission rewards?
I had the Trill Science Officer from the old Fed progression, before T'vrell became the player's first Science Officer, lose her changed ground powers (as far as I remember), but the Space powers were kept, though the defaults were still switched to the old ones. The Andorian Tactical Officer (again, the one from before Elisa Flores became your first Boff) had all of her powers in the right places, as did my Borg Engineer, and the space defaults for them were as I had placed them, though I needed to fix the ground defaults.
the omega auto carbine just got it's dps cut by over half..... Over half. And I put all that dil into upgrading it... guess we all just get scwd
probably their way to punish those who were using overpowered full auto rifle guns that were doing more than 250 dps on some chars for like 3 months... idk

Just want confirmation on this. Can you no longer use Boffs to train other Boffs? None of my candidates are able to train Boffs any more. I just want confirmation on this before I decide to clean out my Boff roster a bit.
I wouldn't toss them just yet, they should still have the skills, therefore if a player commissions them they'll be able to use them.

All Intel BoFF's that got retrained away from their Intel abilities totally lost them after the patch. They kept their standard Tac/Eng/Sci abilities they had been retrained too without option for any of the Intel Abilities.
Of the normal BoFF's the mission received ones all had their originals plus the current trained changes for space. Ground seemed to be hit or miss as to whether they were kept correctly (no pattern visible).
Non-unique BoFF's (exchange/recruitment/DoFF acquired) were random as to whether they kept or lost trained/original skills. More often than not they didn't keep currently trained skills and reverted to original.
Original tutorial BoFF's and Storyline Rom BoFF's seemed to keep original and currently trained skills.

I had three skills between two different BOFFs that were lost, and had to spend Dil and EC to replace them. They were not on the BOFFs. Also, I had a Tac BOFF that lost BO 3, which I have had on him for a couple months. Now, it is completely gone.
I haven't checked any of my other characters yet, and don't really care to. Since DR, I just decided to make one of my characters a main, and the others will just sit there till I need/want to grind for Dil. DR has really made them useless.
The BOFF system is a really good idea, just like giving us a level cap increase, and the ability to upgrade ships and weapons. However, sadly they just don't know how to properly implement these any good ideas. They always find a way to monetize it, and mess it up all at the same time. lol.
I miss the pre-DR STO. It was less punishment, and more fun. You know, when STO was still a game.

For me personally..
When I listed which boffs on which toons were affected, someone deleted my post.
(FYI, the BOFFs were: Embassy Romulan SRO, Elisa Flores, one Romulan SRO that was a reward, and KDF Nausicaan Tac from Exchange. I'm not seeing any pattern here.)
So I'm not going to bother. My issue is not that big a deal, other people's issues are. They've lost more valuable abilities than me.
For me personally, APO is not all that big a deal. It's an annoyance, it shouldn't have happened but I can craft PADDs and retrain the boffs instead of waiting for a dev to get off their behind and fix it. I kind of need that skill now.
At least I didn't lose BO3 or CRF3, then I'd be screaming bloody murder.

Try: unslotting the BOFF. Reslotting the BOFF. Check the checkbox and then select the power. I had to do that for two of my BOFFs.

I have a Dyson Science Destroyer. Its my only T5 ship I have been looking into the BOFF issue a bit I notice that may not be that players assume it is, My Current issue with the new changes is that the STO Dev's and Patch checker Failed or Ignored this Major Bug in the game.
Why mention The Dyson Science Destroyer?
I have proof, In the form of Pictures that back up this claim that this bug my only be restricted to Certain KEY Ships that would hinder a player and may force them to buy product in game to get around This Bug.
What am I Referring to is Upgrade Token And Repec Tokens?
During Game play I happen to have this issue with Space skills being missing or needing to be reset not a problem but I had Several small issue that complicated the process. One of them being the manual taking up Item space.
So let me get this straight you want us to relearn what we already taught our officers what we already taught them, just to fix any current ingame issues.
I did what you ask us to do but something had me thinking about it all so I switch ships to confirm it and I was right!
Any NON upgraded ship There powers are currently Present Active and fully Functional.
Go a head and try it Captains and See if I'm wrong.
After I got to thinking about My Current Builds IN-game and notice that if I didn't have the skill to teach them then that ability was not active on my T5 ship.
Strange How convenient that a Certain bug in game won't be fix anytime soon to make a few bucks off player who may not realize that is a Scam get players to upgrade there other ships.
A lot of players may have the same build as me where we had to Unspec out a old build just
to max out Ship performance build. IE: (Tier 3) Skills that we Taught our crew long time ago I have to Repec and Teach them again because there not available at the vendor.
With any luck There will be a fix next week but its highly unlikely since they want you the players to break out the wallet and pay for tokens to increase profits.

Set the boff abilities to what you want on the skills page, then unseat/reseat them. It worked for me.
I've not noticed any boffs losing skills, though I have seen several gain/regain skills I don't remember them having.
I have proof that the abilities are now based on what ship you are flying....If you are flying a non-upgraded T5 ship that can be upgraded then abilities are limited.
For example:

Of the normal BoFF's the mission received ones all had their originals plus the current trained changes for space. Ground seemed to be hit or miss as to whether they were kept correctly (no pattern visible).
Non-unique BoFF's (exchange/recruitment/DoFF acquired) were random as to whether they kept or lost trained/original skills. More often than not they didn't keep currently trained skills and reverted to original.
Original tutorial BoFF's and Storyline Rom BoFF's seemed to keep original and currently trained skills.

User error.
Since when is it user error that my KDF science can't have her BOFF use Grav Well II, but can use Viral Matrix II which takes the same commander slot, and All my other NON-KDF captains doesn't have too much of a problem?
Yes, the BOFF was trained in Grav Well II BEFORE the change, and yes he still knows it after the change. No, even with Grav Well II selected on the bridge station, it still doesn't show up in the abilities list or power tray. So, tell me again how is it user error?
The BOFF was just a normal one that was given as I leveled up, so it's not unique. And I fly the Dyson Science Destroyer in science mode, so the ability is (supposedly) available.

I had three skills between two different BOFFs that were lost, and had to spend Dil and EC to replace them. They were not on the BOFFs. Also, I had a Tac BOFF that lost BO 3, which I have had on him for a couple months. Now, it is completely gone.
I haven't checked any of my other characters yet, and don't really care to. Since DR, I just decided to make one of my characters a main, and the others will just sit there till I need/want to grind for Dil. DR has really made them useless.
The BOFF system is a really good idea, just like giving us a level cap increase, and the ability to upgrade ships and weapons. However, sadly they just don't know how to properly implement these any good ideas. They always find a way to monetize it, and mess it up all at the same time. lol.
I miss the pre-DR STO. It was less punishment, and more fun. You know, when STO was still a game.

When I listed which boffs on which toons were affected, someone deleted my post.
(FYI, the BOFFs were: Embassy Romulan SRO, Elisa Flores, one Romulan SRO that was a reward, and KDF Nausicaan Tac from Exchange. I'm not seeing any pattern here.)
So I'm not going to bother. My issue is not that big a deal, other people's issues are. They've lost more valuable abilities than me.
For me personally, APO is not all that big a deal. It's an annoyance, it shouldn't have happened but I can craft PADDs and retrain the boffs instead of waiting for a dev to get off their behind and fix it. I kind of need that skill now.
At least I didn't lose BO3 or CRF3, then I'd be screaming bloody murder.

Try: unslotting the BOFF. Reslotting the BOFF. Check the checkbox and then select the power. I had to do that for two of my BOFFs.
I have tried every method, slotting and unslotting, changing their abilities, then reslotting and back, swapping BOFFs with them and back, warping in and out, logging in and out. No matter what I tried, Grav Well II just will not work. Viral Matrix II oddly though seems to want to be defaulted, but since I hate it, I refuse to use it. All my other captains can use Grav Well II and III without any problems.
If Cryptic says it'll be fixed at a later date, I'll take it that they are trying to nerf science KDF and not others.
Aslo having to spend Dil and EC to REBUY skills that you have already paid for is something called double dipping, or double charging. Which in the real world is quite illegal. Just as bad as buying a book at a book store, only to have the book store take it away and charging you a second time for the same book.
Maybe Cryptic should have waited to bring out the BOFF changes till EVERYTHING on it was fix and working like it was supposed to and not TRIBBLE people's abilities up, or stealing abilities away and then charging you again for them.
Why mention The Dyson Science Destroyer?
I have proof, In the form of Pictures that back up this claim that this bug my only be restricted to Certain KEY Ships that would hinder a player and may force them to buy product in game to get around This Bug.
What am I Referring to is Upgrade Token And Repec Tokens?
During Game play I happen to have this issue with Space skills being missing or needing to be reset not a problem but I had Several small issue that complicated the process. One of them being the manual taking up Item space.
So let me get this straight you want us to relearn what we already taught our officers what we already taught them, just to fix any current ingame issues.
I did what you ask us to do but something had me thinking about it all so I switch ships to confirm it and I was right!
Any NON upgraded ship There powers are currently Present Active and fully Functional.
Go a head and try it Captains and See if I'm wrong.
After I got to thinking about My Current Builds IN-game and notice that if I didn't have the skill to teach them then that ability was not active on my T5 ship.
Strange How convenient that a Certain bug in game won't be fix anytime soon to make a few bucks off player who may not realize that is a Scam get players to upgrade there other ships.
A lot of players may have the same build as me where we had to Unspec out a old build just
to max out Ship performance build. IE: (Tier 3) Skills that we Taught our crew long time ago I have to Repec and Teach them again because there not available at the vendor.
With any luck There will be a fix next week but its highly unlikely since they want you the players to break out the wallet and pay for tokens to increase profits.
I've not noticed any boffs losing skills, though I have seen several gain/regain skills I don't remember them having.

Me in my T5 not upgraded Dyson Destroyer, with Thraak in commander science seat and the Grav Well II in the commander slot but it doesn't show up in the abilities list:

Now when I switched to the Sar Theln that has it's free upgrade with Thraak in the Commander Science station AGAIN and Grav Well II in the same spot, but this time Grav Well II shows up in the ability list and the power tray:
