The title says it all folks. I'm asking if the new Vaadwaur lock box will give us players a chance to get our hands on those Vaadwaur cannons that could be slotted in the aft weapon slots of our ships, yet still fire on targets in front of us????
Personally I think its a great way to get people to use single cannons in addition to DHC's.
Have the Dev's said anything one way or the other about this?
they've said Vaadwaar weapons are in the lockbox and Vaadwaar don't use beams, si I for one will be rather disapointed if cryptic take the copout and just apply the 'vaadwaar polaron' energy type to the standard weapons and not give us access to the vaadwaar special arc cannons.
See the thing is Vaadwaur beam arrays bassically shoot cannon shots instead of actual beams.
Would be fun and interesting to have "pulsed beams" that superficially look like cannon shots, but really is just a beam with invisible layers dividing up an otherwise continuous beam model.
Would be even funnier if they worked with Cannon Rapid Fire as well.
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.

Well they don't work with cannon powers but yeah that's about how they work.
Question...... when is this lockbox supposed to come out? I can't seem to find the info on it

For those thinking turrets check the ship you use when you infiltrate the vaadwaar world for the press conference., technically they don't actually fire forwards, but they are rear arc cannons, these weapons do actually exist in the game already. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if the lockbox and lobi vaadwaar ships have them either.
We already have a cannon that can be put in the aft slot, the Dyson rep proton cannon. It fires backwards of course. To have an aft weapon that fires to the front makes no sense. I suppose the hard points for the aft weapons are on the back of the ship, so firing forward means you can fire through your own ship. Friendly fire goes through your ship, enemy fire doesn't ... yeah.
About beams and cannons. I would like to see a complete revamp of these weapons. Just energy weapons, duals, dual heavy, single, turret (perhaps beams, turrets and single cannons can be integrated). Two types of firing mode, pulse, the cannon type, and array, the beam type. Type of firing mode is based on the boff skill or the console (something of those two, I prefer boff skill). Energy type and boost comes from the console. Just an idea.

I always assumed that rear arc, 360 degree weapons like turrets or KCB are mounted both on the lowest point of the ship, like a belly-mount or on the pylons, so it can fire under the saucer and nacelles, and actually have another hard-point at the top-most end to fire above the ship, but only one circuit can be active at a time per weapon or you'll short it out.

All Omni Cannons in Aft, would make Vaadwaur ships a mite OP, don't ya think!?
There was speculation about side mounted cannons, and yes, the ability to have them is in the code already. The previous E admitted that the code was finished, but that a surprising amount of work would needed to update the firing artwork to make it viable.
But I stop the speculation at that point.
In the original artwork for the Vaadwuar you can see something on the original drawings highlighted, and conveniently blurred when it was posted on the blog.
We do know that Vaadwaur weapons are part of the release. We will know Thursday morning.

I don't think people care about being OP as long as they get bigger numbers!
Have you ever seen some of the proposed ship builds people make on here? Some of the half serious ones are extremely OP...so not a surprise someone wouldn't care if omni cannons are OP.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
I don't really get why you can't put regular cannons aft. But I don't really get why you'd want to put regular cannons aft either, because unlike beams you can't broadside them and there is no cannon fire at will that would allow you to fire at targets ahead and behind you simultaneously.

jezzz, no I'm NOT talking about turrets people! Am I the only one who was checking the load-out of that Vaadwaer ship you get to take control of for that infiltration mission?

Basically seems to be what the op is asking for.
Lol, I was just about to comment that! :P
Seriously, no need to create a whole new weapon type.
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
No way! That's NEVER happened before in canon!

well... thats not entirerly true if you think about it the only beam array that works with the cannon skills is the dyson rep proton beam weapon lol
