Joystick/gamepad Support - For Handicapped

toppiegtrstoppiegtrs Member Posts: 7 Arc User
Everywhere you go in life, you see wheelchair ramps or handles on stair walls, chair lifts, etc. THese were all brought on because of decent support for disabled people and the aged. They have even been captured into bylaws of governments.
SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH CRYPTIC/ARC/STO NOT FOLLOWING SUIT?

So many disabled soldiers come back from war zones, with lots of time on their "hands" while they are recouperating/healing. Yet they are excluded from playing many games that do not have joystick/gamepad support.

SAD IF MULTIMILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES CAN ONLY THINK OF MAKING EVEN MORE MILLIONS AND FORGET THOSE WHO FOUGHT AND GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THE FREEDOM WE ALL ENJOY NOW.

COME ON Cryptic/ARC/STO - WAKE UP!!!
(Oh, and by the way - just think how much more Dollars you can make if you tap into that resource - chuckle chuckle)

I invite anybody to reply and comment on this please.

You can use controllers, and joysticks in STO. It can be set up different ways, and with a wide variety of ways.

I have different setups I sometimes use to use. But I can't play on the desktop like before, so I only have one setup I use now. The others were saved on the desktop.

I even have one that uses the controller to activate no more than 2 skills at a time, with about three rows in the skill tray filled up.

Takes some time to set it up the way you may want sometimes, but it is there.

I use a programmable "Saitek" controller, that works great. Have my entire keyboard programed on it. Programming was pretty basic, which anyone can figure out. I have a left handed gamepad as well if i don't want to use my controller. Works great if you type with 1 finger.(LOL)

I use a Logitech G13 personally. If you are having trouble getting the game controls tweaked to suit your specific needs, or need help finding the right controller to maximize your accessibility, contact the folks at AbleGamers because they solely focus on gamers with various types and degrees of physical and even mental handicaps.

Cryptic's engine was initially made for an Xbox game. Champions has very good controller integration by default.

STO, due to the ton of clickies, didn't leave the controller in such a good state out of the box but you can set up keybind files to run just about everything with the controller. Those binds are floating around the forums.

NWO initially had controller support but killed it for some reason, unless something has changed you'll need something like xpadder to make it go.

I primarily play with a gamepad since I'm using a mouse all day at work.

I use a joystick and mouse combination to relieve the strain of holding a key down continuously. There are programs out there that, as someone mentioned, simulate keyboard commands.

It isn't ideal, as there's no access to the other half of the joystick with one hand to have access to anywhere near as many key combinations as on a keyboard, but still beats risking strain-related injury.

I do wish we could have a true analog joystick input though, to manually control throttle, bank, pitch, and the addition of a yaw angle would also make it more fun. And of course dump the 2.5D and make it fully 3D so there's no ridiculous spiraling-'down' in space.

it has good joystick support, but you need macroes with a mode chainger for it to work effectively with an xbox 360 controller

i used to use joy2key, which gives free licence to handicapped players

Here is a nice XBOX360/One setup guide I found, the instructions are great and the keybind works perfect.
