I am having a really hard time deciding between these two ships.
I have 3,000 so I can either buy the Pathfinder or I can by the Dyson plus I was thinking of using the left over 500 for the credit cap boost. I kind of liked the feel of the Dyson that I got to use in the storyline but it seems most threads are arguing that buying any ship that isn't a T6 is a waste.
It has heavy enough science slant that it can do a lot of fancy tricks.
Also it has enough of a tactical edge to it to allow it to work fairly effectively as a sci/tac hybrid without being too escort'y and sacrificing its other powers (like the Dauntless does).
Once the fleet version comes out this year it will likely get a 3rd tac console so that will put it up there with most cruisers, whilst still retaining a massive potential as a heavy science ship.
Plus it looks pretty dammed cool as a ship and also as mentioned the starship trait is very useful.
Unless you managed to grind the freebie DSD from the 4th anni event (and used its free T5-U upgrade) I would not bother purchasing any Dyson at this point. So add another vote for the Pathfinder.
Though may I interest you in the Scryer. Some may argue that it is in fact the best fed sci vessel out there ATM. With the ability to slot an cmdr intel officer you can do some cool intelly things along with cool sciencey things.

You also might want to think about the Scryer as well, even as horrifically ugly as it is, it's a very good Sci Vessel.

The dyson ships on the other hand weren't worth their money when they were introduced and now they're even more pointless, for feds at least.
The only reason why some use them is because romulans and klingons simply lack any proper T5 & T6 sci ships.
