I hate that the moment people see Dilithium anywhere they reflexively hate the new system and completely ignore the real perks from it.
Dilithium is the currency Cryptic uses to monetize stuff without forcing everyone to just go out and buy Zen.
Think about this - respecs for your Captain cost Zen, and not too little. Bridge Officer slots also cost Zen.
Now you get a lot of power in customizing your ship loadout and you no longer need to spend Zen to get some flexibility. Just some Dilithium... Dilithium you can grind yourself. And if you don't want to spend Dilithium, you'll be able to trade with others and can get by with EC.
And in the mean time, Cryptic has actually something that increases the chances for them that the development time spend on this will pay itself off. Which means they can add more desirable features. Or, who knows, maybe even some mission content.

I hate when no one questions the established order of things. We are allowed to be upset when a new charge is added to the game, albeit a dilithium one, but one that still adds to the overall economy drain. As well you are allowed to say that this charge is ok by the PWE.
Would it really matter to you if it only cost EC? If the answer is yes, than I have to wonder about your motives.

I don't personally care either way.
I don't train rank 3(or 2 in the case of certain skills that don't have a rank 3) skills daily. So the cost is minimal. Also, the training is now PERMANENT. Once a boff learns a skill they will always have it no matter what else you teach them.
while this system has certain merits , i dont like another Dill and time gate change on something that was instant and mostly cost just EC or in the case trained for free from our captains . why the insistent need to throw a timer and a Dil cost to every little thing in the game is unwanted IMO . every where all over the game rewards and earnings drop . rather than letting us play what we want for content to earn exp, EC and Dil. our way if earning is seen as a exploit while these other means are seen as not exploiting the system because it fits the "metrics" this is what the game has become every aspect of the game is slowing becoming a sink for dil and it adds up .

I like the fact that it's permanent, I think the cost of 500 dil is too high though. My biggest concern after the dil is how will the system work on live, where there is a heavier load on the server. More things seem to go wrong once the server stress increases. I wish they would do more stress testing before releasing new content
